Arab States Pledge To Provide PA With $100 Million Monthly

 

This is actually pretty funny.

The Arab states met in Doha Qatar and agreed to implement something they agreed on last March, $100 million  per month as a safety net for the Palestinian Authority since Israel is now using the tax duties it collects and applying them towards 'Palestine's ' unpaid electrical bills.

Apparently there were a lot of pledges, but not much cash , as is the norm for the Arab nations when it comes to 'Palestine':

The statement did not give details of how the money would be paid or who would pay, but Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Elaraby said a mechanism has been agreed.

"The mechanism is that the chair of the committee (Qatar) and the
secretary-general will contact each country with the exact amount they have to pay," Elaraby told Reuters after the meeting. "I said I want an answer in 15 days," he added.

So the committee is going to figure out each nation's share, dun them and expect them to just fork over with arguing and fighting about it? Good luck with that!

In any case, the PA now says it needs $240 million every month to keep things going and pay its 153,000 employees.Of course, that includes salary payments to convicted terrorist murderers sitting in Israeli jails and Sufa Arafat's $100,000 per month allowance for the good life in Paris.

Now the Pals claim a population in th eareas they occupy in Judea and amaria of around 2.5 million, which includes 250,000 Arabs who are not Israeli citizens but live there. The PA is also notorious for overestimating their population, because donor aid is frequently figured on a per capita basis, and the overage provides a nice margin for siphoning off cash to well connected pockets. Let's err on the side of generosity and say 2 million. If we also eliminate the people who live in refugee camps on the UN's dime, something like one out of every ten or twelve Palestinians works for the government!

That's certain to produce a vibrant, self supporting economy.

In any event, we'll see if the current round of pledges actually net anything. My guess is that anything the Arabs give their Palestinian 'brothers' will be for services rendered, and in the end Abbas and company will try to work the usual scam and turn to America and the EU for their jirzyah

Truth Magnified: Award-Winning Arab Author Denied Cash Prize Because He Visited Israel

Boualem Sansal is a well known Algerian writer who just received a prestigious French literary award, The Editions Gallimard Arabic Novel prize.

The prize is sponsored by the Arab Ambassadors Council, which is based in Paris, France. It consists of an award and a cash prize of 15,000 euros.

Sansal won the prize for his book “Rue Darwin” (Darwin Street). However, after being named the winner he made a big mistake before he collected his award.

Last month, Sansal was invited as the guest of honor to the Jerusalem Writers Festival in Israel and attended.

When it came time to award Sansal the prize he had won, the Arab ambassadors engaged in a protracted argument over whether he should receive the honor he'd won after actually consorting with Jews. In the end they grudgingly decided to let him have the award, but withheld the cash prize:

Commenting on the decision to withdraw the prize money, laureate Sansal said it was “completely unacceptable,” adding that Arab countries – and his home country, Algeria, in particular – had “shut themselves in a prison of intolerance.”

Sansal added that in order to truly help the Palestinians, individuals like himself should be able to visit Israel freely. “Yes, there are complicated relations with Israel, but we are not at war with them,” he said.

French cultural figures were quick to denounce the council’s decision as a capitulation to Hamas pressure.

France Culture radio director Olivier Poivre d’Avror said the prize money had been withdrawn as a “sordid” consequence of Hamas pressure. “Between being nominated for the prize and actually receiving it, Boualem Sansal visited Israel … Hamas immediately issued a statement calling his presence an act of treason against the Palestinians. The reaction of Arab Ambassadors Council was a direct result of this,” France24 quoted him as saying.

French-Lebanese writer and jury member Venus Houry-Ghata said that although “the ambassadors have to do what their governments tell them … the jury believes culture, and in this case a novel, should not be restricted by borders or by politics.” She added that the jury would continue to grant the award in the future.

This is a small item that is illustrative of so many larger issues.

The first one quite obviously is that those who say there are no Palestinians, only Arabs have received fresh evidence of that fact. Hamas may have called it treason, but since Sansal is Algerian, he could not commit treason against them..unless both the Algerians and the people whom identify themselves as 'Palestinians' are all just one part of the same Arab ummah. An Arab League spokesperson underlined this in response to questions by France 24 saying, “The Ambassadors are subject to the official position of the Arab League which considers itself effectively in a state of war with Israel. The council is obliged to follow directives from the Arab League."

Sansal may not think he's at war with Israel, but the Arab leaders certainly do. They are engaged in a war without end. And they act accordingly.They do it for one reason...because of what it says about Jews in the Qu'ran and Hadiths. And there's no getting away from it.

Contrast this with the attitude of the Israelis, who had no problem cordially inviting a prominent Arab writer to come to Israel as the guest of honor to a literary festival in their capitol.

That's the key to the Middle East situation in a nutshell..not 'land for peace', not 'settlements' or the so-called occupation, but the widespread Islamic hatred of Jews and the very fact Israel exists at all.

It's so deeply engrained as to be almost an automatic reflex. It doesn't even take actual or perceived hostilities. For instance, when Algeria, Sansals' home country received its independence in 1960, one of the first things they did was to expel Algeria's 250,000 Jews forthwith...after plundering all their wealth and property.No one said a thing about it, especially the UN.

Until that attitude changes and Arabs like Boualem Sansal become far more numerous the best that can be expected is temporary, hostile armistices.For Muslims, the Peace of Hubidiyah mentioned in the Qu'ran and Hadiths is a model, a treaty Mohammed made 'in eternity' with the Quraysh tribe that ruled Mecca until he was strong enough to break it with impunity and annihilate them. No less than Yasser Arafat himself made reference to the Peace of Hubidiyah on Jordanian state television right after he signed the Oslo Accords, to answer questions on why he had signed a treaty with the hated Jews.

The west would do well to keep that attitude in mind, because it doesn't just apply to Jews and Israel but to all infidels.The Jews are merely at hand, and first in line.

Israel: Arab League Must Admit Responsibility For Jewish Refugees

A long time coming, but it's about time this was said in an official context:

On Tuesday (April 3, 2012), the Foreign Ministry hosted a special conference headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon and presented for the first time a special ministry report titled "The Jewish Refugees from Arab Countries." The conference was attended by representatives from the organizations of Jews from Arab countries and by correspondents from the Israeli and international media; and was broadcast live to all the Israeli missions abroad.

Deputy Foreign Minister Ayalon opened the conference by recognizing the historic wrong and the perversion of justice done to the Jewish refugees from the Arab countries starting in 1948. Ayalon then appealed directly to the Arab League, on this the tenth anniversary of the Saudi Initiative, and demanded they acknowledge their historic guilt and assume responsibility for expelling the Jews from Arab countries, thereby turning them into refugees, and simultaneously acknowledge their responsibility for creating the Palestinian refugees by going to war against Israel. Ayalon emphasized, "Particularly at this juncture in time I call upon the Arab League to assume responsibility and admit it was they who caused the Jews from Arab countries to become refugees."

Ayalon made it clear that Israel would insist on the Palestinian refugees being integrated into the Palestinian state when it is established, just as the Jewish refugees were absorbed into Israel.
"Today some 50% of Israel's residents are the same refugees from Arab countries and their progeny, who were fully integrated and who contributed to the establishment and development of the State of Israel. Just as the State of Israel absorbed the Jewish refugees, so the Arab refugees who left Mandatory Palestine should receive the same treatment, all the more in light of the establishment of the Palestinian Authority, the existence of which renders the continued existence of the Arab refugee camps unjustified."

Ayalon instructed all of Israel's missions abroad to persuade the world's parliamentarians to adopt a resolution recognizing the Jewish refugees from Arab states, just as the American Congress did by passing House Resolution 185 in 2008.

"I call upon all the world's enlightened nations to adopt moral, just resolutions like the United States' resolution 185 and thereby help bring an end to the conflict. Acknowledging and taking care of refugees is not just a matter of historic justice but also one that is valid based on UN Resolution 242."

Ayalon has personal knowledge of what he's talking about. As a child, he and his family were expelled from Algeria as soon as it received its independence in 1962 with nothing but the clothes on their backs..simply because they were Jews.

Almost one million Jews were ethnically cleansed in a similar fashion after 1948. And unlike the 'Palestinians', Israel didn't receive a penny's worth of help from the UN in resettling them.The refugees on both sides were the direct result of the Arab jihad against Israel in 1948, and the Arabs have never acknowledged it.

"At this juncture in time I call for putting an end to the historic injustice and call upon the Arab League to assume responsibility and admit it was they who caused the Jews from Arab countries to become refugees",said Ayalon.

They won't because it would destroy the entire narrative they've used to poison their people and their western apologists for generations. But it's good to hear the truth from official channels instead of the usual apologetic nonsense.

Arab League Votes To Suspend Syria

The Arab League voted yesterday to suspend Syria, purportedly over the killings of civilians by the Assad regime during the months long crackdown on dissidents. The UN estimates that the death toll is now around 3,500 which I personally think is low. It likely doesn't account for those who have been arrested and quietly murdered in Syria's prisons.

"Syria is a dear country for all of us and it pains us to make this decision," Qatar's Foreign Minister Hamad bin Jassim told reporters. "We hope there will be a brave move from Syria to stop the violence and begin a real dialogue toward real reform."

Needless to say, President Obama voiced his approval.

I invite anyone who thinks the the Arab League made this move for humanitarian reasons to guess again. After all, the League has never suspended The Sudan or voiced any disapproval whatever over its leader Omar al-Bashir, who has actually been indicted by the ICC for genocidal activities in Darfur that killed far more than 3,500 people, many of whom were Muslim. In fact, they've gone out of their way on a number of occasions to voice support for him.

Part of the reason al-Bashir got a pass was good old fashioned Arab racism, but there's a bit more to Assad not getting one than meets the eye.

Syria's regime is run by the minority Alawite sect, a Shia offshoot who rules over a Sunni majority. Thus Syrian leader Basher Assad's alignment with Iran has religious and cultural overtones as well as political ones.

Saturday's vote actually represents a Sunni vote against Iran and its allies...not a huge step, since the League made it clear they don't favor a Libya-style intervention, but a symbolic one and a gesture of Sunni solidarity. They understand full well that with the US abandoning the region at the end of the year, they are going to have to stick together to have any chance of counteracting the Iranian Shi'ite bloc.

You won't read it in the dinosaur media, but that's the real story.

Libya: War By UN Diktat

As you probably know by now, President Obama decided to commit the US to what amounts to a third war in Libya.

In response to a UN resolution ( UNSCR 1973) authorizing 'all means necessary' to 'protect Libya's civilians', President Obama committed our military to launch attacks against Libya, in conjunction with Britain and France.

This has a number of troubling elements.

The military intervention that might have been effective a few weeks ago does nothing but ensure a stalemate, given conditions on the ground. So even the rationale of removing Khaddaffi from power is non-existent right now, and the president and other officials in the administration like SecDef Robert Gates have been quite vocal that regime change isn't one of our goals here.Although that seems to change from hour to hour, depending on whom you talk to.

In fact, the whole idea of goals when it comes to Libya is downright fuzzy. We are intervening in what amounts to a civil war without even a clear idea of whom we're helping. And there's not even the rationale that intervening in Libya is vital to US security - because it isn't. Nor is it even the oil - we import virtually nothing from Libya, although the British and French have multi-billion dollar investments in the form of contracts to protect.

We don't really have any clear objectives there except a vague one 'to protect civilians'..as if a tomahawk missile is going to discriminate!

So, why did the president change his mind and go to war with Libya? He had his reasons.

Obama desperately needed something to distract from the budget battles at home, show himself as a decisive leader and improve his approval ratings..so he wanted to wag the dog, if you get my meaning. Khaddaffi, whom most Americans rightly despise was tailor-made for the role of villain.

Obama also very much wanted it done under UN auspices, for reasons I'll get to shortly.

Oddly enough, what may have finally decided this president was the backing of the Arab League for a no fly zone, which they of course wanted the West to do for them, rather than using their own planes. Once they were committed, the Obama Administration knew that getting a UN resolution wold be relatively easy. Of course, once the West implemented a no fly zone, the Arabs balked and began criticizing the West for doing what they were too timid to do for themselves. This way, of course, they have it both ways with the Arab public. The Russians and Chinese likewise simply abstained and let Obama make an ass of himself...after which they, like the Arab league, condemned the western intervention as 'colonialism'.

Obama even faced criticism from domestic allies like Dennis Kucinich and Louis Farrakhan.

"Brother, who the hell do you think you are?" I think a lot of Americans have been wondering the same thing for some time.

Our president has just committed us to a war which could ultimately cost the United States several billion dollars -- and could require the Pentagon to ask for emergency funding from Congress to pay for it. And it was done without any debate in Congress, let alone a resolution to use force. Nothing but that UN resolution. Even George W. Bush, LBJ and Clinton didn't have the hubris to do that. President Obama did neither, he simply relied on the UN resolution.

Even some Lefties in Congress were honest enough to howl over this one. And can you imagine the outcry if a Republican president had done something this autocratic?

The United States has never gone to war before or committed its armed forces in this manner based strictly on a UN diktat. Candidate Obama had a great deal to say about President Bush's 'illegal war' in Iraq, but President Obama has gone far beyond anything Bush did. The fact remains that before going into Iraq, President Bush allowed lengthy debate in Congress and received an authorization to use force. President Clinton at least allowed debate before bombing the Serbs in Bosnia. President Obama appears to feel he needn't bother with such niceties..sign a few orders and then it's off the South America on yet another road trip.

Another disturbing thing, and in my opinion an important key to the whole matter - what kind of future precedent does this set? About a year ago, the Obama Administration touted a UN doctrine adopted about a year ago known as Responsibility to Protect - R2P for short. It basically mandates the UN to intervene whenever civilians are endangered or there is a risk of 'genocide'. Admirable I'm sure, but as you can imagine very selectively applied by the UN, as the people of Iran, Syria or Darfur could tell you. Yet that was the major basis behind the UN Resolution on Libya, and it lays the ground for its use in the future.

For example, what if India and Pakistan get into another shooting war, the Muslim dominated UN votes a resolution based on R2P and Obama decides to intervene on the side of Pakistan without bothering to get the permission of Congress?

Or even more likely, let's say the Israelis decide at some point that they're sick and tired of Hamas or Hezbollah lobbing missiles at them and send the IDF in to stop it. Is President Obama looking to set up a scenario where there's an anti-Israel UN resolution based on R2P and he bypasses Congress and orders the US military to intervene against Israel to enforce a UN resolution to 'protect civilians' and impose a 'Palestinian' state ? Even if it means killing a lot of Jewish civilians to 'protect' Arab ones?

Implausible? Obama's UN Ambassador Dr. Susan Rice, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Obama's NSC Assistant Samantha Power are hardly friends of Israel, and Power has even advocated invading Israel to establish a 'Palestinian' state. It's not at all a far-fetched scenario. And a precedent is now in place.

President Obama wouldn't even necessarily have to pit US forces against the Israelis directly. He could simply implement an arms embargo, freeze assets and implement trade sanctions 'in support of the UN resolution' while other UN members - say, Britain, France, Turkey and a few other players - did the fighting, with the US providing them with arms and support.

When an American president makes the US military subordinate to 'the international community' to serve his own personal whims and cheerfully violates the Constitution in order to do so, we are on very dangerous ground indeed. Particularly with this president.

Arab League Backs Libya No Fly Zone - So Why Don't They Impose It Themselves?

In a special meeting in Cairo today, the Arab League voted to ask the UN Security Council to impose a No Fly zone over Libya.

The only opposing votes came from Syria and Algeria.

Now, riddle me this: There are a number of countries who belong to the Arab league and have combat aircraft. Egypt, for example, has a lot of US-made Phantoms within reach of Libya. So if they're so gung ho to strike a blow for Arab freedom, why not impose a no fly zone themselves instead of waiting for the West to do it?

Could it be that those brave Arab warriors really aren't so brave, when it comes right down to it?

I think it's time the West let them do something positive for themselves for a change. I seem to notice that whenever the West liberates Muslims from their home-grown despots, we don't seem to get a lot of appreciation for it.
