Barack Obama's Real Legacy - America, Humiliated

Iran’s Humiliation Of Barack Obama Is Now Complete

When is a world power in serious decline? One indication is when neither its leaders, its military or its citizens begin losing the ability to command respect from foreign powers.

Our recent engagement (if you could call it that) with Iran is one shameful indication of such a decline.

The official story out of Washington is that two of our Riverine gunships manned by U.S. Marines somehow accidentally wandered off course into Iranian territory, where one of them broke down. The Iranian IRG naval forces showed up,impounded the two boats and detained our sailors briefly, repaired the damage and after an apology and confession of wrongdoing from the American commanding officer sent them on their way. Much was made of how kindly the Americans were treated by their captors, and how this was a triumph of diplomacy, exactly why the Iran deal needed to be implemented.

Most of the above paragraph is sheer horse manure. Instead, the capture of the two gunboats was deliberately planned and carried out in international waters and designed to send a sharp message the White House, which shamefully collaborated in this farce.

The gunboats were reported taken near Farsi Islands, which is the official naval base for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. According to the White House, these two boats were en route to Kuwait from our base in Bahrain. Since these boats are shallow draft vessels, they could have sailed fairly close to the Arabian side of the Gulf, hugging the shoreline. These are fast boats, and the trip should have taken just over an hour. There was no reason to go anywhere near Iran.

http://www.persiansarenotarabs.com/_upload/custom/map12jpg_55deb12b5da40.jpg

Somehow, these two gunboats wound up 70 miles off course, near an IRG naval base. And captured by what amounts to a couple of small motor boats with a fraction of their armaments and manpower:

Given the advanced radar, GPS systems and skill of the crew, does it seem logical that these two gunboats would err this much? The answer, of course is that they didn't.

Former SEAL Matt Bracken caused a firestorm online with comments on Twitter and Facebook, and what he had to say was corroborated from one of my regular readers who shared his knowledge of these kinds of missions.

For an open-water transit between nations, the course is studied and planned in advance by the leaders of the Riverine Squadron, with specific attention given to staying wide and clear of any hostile nation's claimed territorial waters. The boats are given a complete mechanical check before departure, and they have sufficient fuel to accomplish their mission plus extra. If, for some unexplainable and rare circumstance one boat broke down, the other would tow it, that's why two boats go on these trips and not one! It's called "self-rescue" and it's SOP.

This entire situation is in my area of expertise. I can state with complete confidence that both Iran and our own State Department are lying. The boats did not enter Iranian waters.

What likely happened is that IRG forces intercepted the two gunboats on the normal route between Bahrain and Kuwait, jammed their communications and ordered them back to Farsi Island. The gunboats likely cooperated because they were ordered not to create an incident. And their ROE prohibit them from firing unless they were fired upon by their superiors. It's quite likely the IRG was aware of these rules of engagement.

The IRG stripped the ships of their GPS units and all communications devices and even took the sim cards from the crew's cellphones, so no real record of where the gunboats were actually seized would exist. Then they forced them to pose on their knees, to take pictures that went all over the world. And of course, there was that confession by the captain of violating Iranian waters:

The Iranians made a huge propaganda coup out of this:

A senior Iranian military commander in charge of the country’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that the 10 U.S. sailors who were recently captured and subsequently released by the Islamic Republic “started crying after [their] arrest,” according to Persian language comments made during military celebrations this weekend.

Hossein Salami, deputy commander of the IRGC, which is responsible for boarding the U.S. ships and arresting the sailors, claimed in recent remarks, the “American sailors started crying after arrest, but the kindness of our Guard made them feel calm.”

Hossein went on to brag that the incident provides definitive evidence of the Iranian military’s supremacy in the region.

“Since the end of the Second World War, no country has been able to arrest American military personnel,” the commander said, according to an independent translation of his Persian-language remarks made Friday during a “martyrs’ commemoration ceremony” in Isfahan.

“I saw the weakness, cowardice, and fear of American soldiers myself. Despite having all of the weapons and equipment, they surrendered themselves with the first action of the guardians of Islam,” Ahmad Dolabi, an IRGC commander, said in Persian-language remarks at a prayer service in Iran’s Bushehr providence.

“American forces receive the best training and have the most advanced weapons in the world,” he added. “But they did not have the power to confront the Guard due to weakness of faith and belief.”

That aside, why would Iran carry out such a mission just now? President Barack Obama and Secretary Kerry are a walking dream for the Ayatollahs and are literally giving them whatever they want. Why rock the boat and cause trouble for this president, with sanctions relief and billions of dollars on the way?

The Iranians themselves provide the answer. Congress has understandably begun to be revolted by the servile nature of this Iran deal put into play without their oversight, especially with elections upcoming. Bills are pending in congress supporting increased oversight and new sanctions over Iran's violating the deal - or at least what John Kerry tells us the deal is - by testing its ballistic missiles. Obama has alluded before that he would veto such legislation, but after the sailors were captured he made a major point of it, and even worked some positive language about how good this Iran deal was for America into his State of the Union Address. This was simply a quid pro quo, and the Iranians were quite open about it.Official Iranian media announced that the capture and humiliation of US sailors and gunboats was a lesson to “troublemakers” in the U.S. Congress.

The last thing the Iranians wanted to present President Obama with was a full blown hostage crisis. This was merely their way of making sure that the sanctions relief went as scheduled, that the appeasement of Iran continues and to remind our president who is calling the shots.

And Obama is far from alone. The IAEA has certified that Iran has met all requirements to have the sanctions officially removed, something that was trumpeted by the usual suspects. Of course, what they're not telling us is that the IAEA isn't inspecting anything in Iran at all.

Over the weekend, the Iranians received $150 billion in sanctions relief, and five US hostages (there's no real way to describe them otherwise) were released by Iran...by only in exchange for a greater number of Iranian spies and people in jail for violating the sanctions.

The message this sends to Iran's rogue, fascist regime is easy to imagine. They know now that almost any actions they take will be ignored by President Obama, because he's desperate for the Iran deal to be his legacy in what otherwise is an execrable record of failure, lies and deceit, especially in foreign policy.

Rewarding Iran's aggression merely because they are making a show of temporarily cooperating in curtailing their illegal nuclear weapons programs hasn't remotely brought the diplomatic reset between America and Iran that President Obama and John Kerry said it would. It is only encouraging more of the same behavior from Iran, and as long as this president is in office we will see it in increasing doses.

The bill for this sort of appeasement is always paid eventually.Unfortunately, that delay always results in payment with interest. When that costly payment is eventually made, it will be a major part of Barack Hussein Obama's despicable legacy as America's president.

Forum: Has The Relationship Between Men And Women Changed For The Worse?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher's Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week's question: Has The Relationship Between Men And Women Changed For The Worse?

The Razor : Feminism once meant equality between the sexes. It has long since devolved into man-hatred, with women portraying men as sexual predators incapable of reaching maturity with psychopathic tendencies. In the process they have recreated a neo-Victorian sexual paradigm where women are too weak and feeble and must be protected from men, their ideas and thoughts as well as their sexuality. I half expect feminist college professors to faint at the next microaggression. Thirty years ago I thought college age women were neurotic. Today I think they are absolutely insane.

Being the gatekeepers of sexuality has traditionally elevated women’s worth, forcing men of that age to put up with a lot of hassle. Fortunately today there are more distractions that compete for men’s attention, putting a limit to the amount of trouble they are willing to put up with in order to have sex. To put it bluntly, women are in danger of pricing themselves out of the market.

I once thought that because of the innate inequality of sexual desire shared between the sexes that men would always be dependent on women. But thanks to technology I see men growing independent from women to a degree that I once didn’t believe possible. And I’m also seeing women react in surprising ways to this change in the balance of power between the two sexes.

In all likelihood the spasms of feminist dystopia we are witnessing on today’s campuses and among the liberal elites will settle down and the he-ing and she-ing that has characterized our species since its inception will continue unabated. But if it doesn’t, women will stand to suffer more than they expect as men decide their crazy, self-contradicting controlling desires are simply not worth the trouble. Bring on the replicants!

The Independent Sentinel : Since the sixties, I've watched the man-hating feminists demean men. I won't negate the fact that they have helped raise the status of women, but they've also elevated them to the point that they are encouraged to kill their babies at any time up to the moment of birth because it's their bodies. In the process of boosting women, they've used the tactic of belittling men and attacking them as aggressors to win their points.

The left today includes both men and women putting men down. Women are seen beating up the bad guys while men are too often portrayed as weak or looking like Pajama Boy or walking around with orange hair and crashing into cars in Foster Child commercials. Aggressive sports are on the ropes and football players are portrayed as more violent than the other men though research proves it's not true.

Older men and women appear to have great relationships in this country but I don't know what the situation is going to be for the new generation. I will say, however, that women need to get ahead on their own merits, not because of preferential treatment, lies about their abilities, and degradation of men.

The Glittering Eye: I don't find the Forum format conducive to long-form, citation-filled responses. Maybe I'll write a post on this subject. I'll just jot down a few quick thoughts.

I'm an empirical kind of guy and, if there's empirical evidence that men and women are happier and better off, that their relationships are happier, longer, and more satisfied, and that children are being reared in more loving and secure environments than was the case 50 years ago, I have yet to see it. Over that period marriage rates have waned, divorce rates have risen, and the proportion of children being reared in homes with both of their biological parents has fallen to levels unparalleled in American history if not in human history as well.

Increasingly, men are becoming dispensable. A relative handful of elite women may wield more power and influence and reap more wealth than ever before but by far the greater number of women are being left to rear children alone.

You can change the laws. You can change the expectations. You can't change millions of years of human physical and social evolution in a few years or even in a few generations. Is it any wonder that suicide rates have risen?

Laura Rambeau Lee,Right Reason : We know it to be true that for a society to survive we must first start with a secure family unit consisting of a father and a mother raising their children together; providing for them and teaching them morals and values and how to be productive members of society.

I really feel sorry for the youth today growing up exposed to progressive indoctrination especially when it comes to the male/female relationship. While the majority of children in the past grew up secure in their sexual identities, today the emphasis is on the aberrant among them. Our children are being taught at a very early age that there are all types of sexual preferences and all of them are acceptable. They encourage self-exploration at very early ages. It’s almost as if the majority of people, the heterosexuals, should NOT be the preferable choice. All this is doing is causing the lines to be blurred and creating uncertainty in our children. Like so much of the progressive agenda, uncertainty is the key to indoctrination and the younger the child the easier it is to shape and mold their morals and values.

Relationships today must be very difficult for young adults, given all of the information they are being fed from their progressive teachers and the media. However, I believe most of them will follow the traditional route and find a mate and settle down and raise their families. After all, we are hard wired to do so. Indoctrination will never be able to change human physiology.

JoshuaPundit : Ah, the prog fascist model! Remember 'Julia,' the character in that famous Obama ad? Something that immediately struck me and that I haven't heard mentioned anywhere else was that there is another famous  'Julia' who was used as a model  for cradle to grave government control of a woman's life. She appears in Orwell's 1984 and like her lover, Winston Smith is crushed by the State and condemned to live a loveless, lonely life afterwards.

Many women in America used to meet their spouses at school or at work. Today, most sane young men wouldn't dream of asking anyone they work with or go to school with out on a date. All it takes is a malicious accusation of 'sexual assault' and they face expulsion or being fired. The risks are simply too high.

A lot of the young women who revel in this 'victory' will end up a lot like Julia in their mid to late thirties..unloved, miserable, childless and wondering where all the good men have gone to.

Lots of men are rethinking things too. After being demonized from that first day in kindergarten by the very society they helped to build and make a much more safe and  pleasant place for women, an increasing number of them are choosing to avoid marriage and hold on to their adolescence as long as possible. Or they're looking for wives elsewhere. As one of them put it, your children and 2/3 of your earnings is too high a price  to pay for the privilege of seeing the average American girl naked.

Some bright spots - while the current laws and the culture being pushed today is designed to eliminate till-death-do-us-part marriage entirely, it persists stubbornly the among more traditional cultures in America, especially where religion is a factor. And those families are the ones having most of the children in America today. And there is also this. When times get hard, people tend to flush the sophistries of the Left and return to the traditions  of the past. Marriage rates shot up during Great Depression.

  Well, there you have it.

Pat Condell: Europe’s Betrayal of Women

As usual Pat Condell tells it like it is. Europe is literally in the process of becoming a place where women are prey.

“When you ask people, “What’s America’s longest war?” they usually answer “Vietnam” or amend that to “Afghanistan,” but it’s neither. America’s longest war is the war on drugs.” - Don Winslow, The Cartel

"Poor Mexico. So far from G-d, so close to the United States." - Former Mexican Presidente Porfirio Diaz

This week's winning essay comes from Fausta's blog, Mexico: El Chapo’s notes from underground, VIDEO. By now Sean Penn's infamous sojurn in Mexico to interview cartel boss ElChapo is common knowledge, but Fausta takes us behind the headlines with an fascinating in depth look at how it happened, and the aftermath that saw El Chapo recaptured...at least for now. Here's a slice:

Penn first met in person with El Chapo’s son under Chavista Cartel de los Soles protection in Venezuela’s Margarita Island.

El Chapo snuck out of the house during the Mexican Marines’ raid through a tunnel, bring us today’s Capt. Louis Renault moment:

‘El Chapo’ Nearly Foiled Capture With Another Tunnel. Mexican Marines took nearly 90 minutes to find the drug lord’s tunnel

"Video published Monday by Mexican broadcaster Televisa revealed details of the secret tunnel used by Mr. Guzmán to slip away from marines as they stormed a house he was using in the coastal city of Los Mochis. He was arrested hours later trying to leave the city in a stolen car.

The tunnel was hidden behind a closet mirror, featured a secret switch hidden in the ceiling, and had electricity and wooden planks covering the walls, the images showed. Marines took nearly 90 minutes to find the tunnel and open the access, giving him a big head start.

Mr. Guzmán, the world’s most notorious drug lord and leader of the Sinaloa cartel, has a long history with tunnels. He is widely credited with pioneering the use of tunnels to ferry drugs across the U.S.-Mexico border, and used tunnels in recent years to elude capture as Mexico’s most-wanted criminal. He then famously used a mile-long tunnel to escape from prison last July."

Were he living, Dosto may have something to say on Chapo’s underground tendencies.

By now, shouldn’t Chapo (Shorty) be named El Topo (Mole)?

But I digress.

Here’s Televisa‘s coverage (in Spanish). Here’s the video from the Marines’ unit commander’s go-pro camera.

Anonymous Mexico released an embeddable version,

While the house was raided.

Our Weasel Of The Week!!

Yes, once again, It's time to present this week's statuette of shame, The Golden Weasel!!

Every Tuesday, the Council nominates some of the slimiest, most despicable characters in public life for some deed of evil, cowardice or corruption they’ve performed. Then we vote to single out one particular Weasel for special mention, to whom we award the statuette of shame, our special, 100% plastic Golden Weasel. This week's nominees were all slimy and despicable, but the votes are in and we have our winner...the envelope please...

The Obama State Department!!

Fausta's Blog : The Weasel of the Week is the Obama administration, for shipping a Hellfire missile to Cuba,

  • in early 2014
  • which its manufacturer, Lockheed, noticed "was missing"in June of that year
  • and ended up in Cuba
  • during the time the Obama administration was finalizing its negotiations for easing relations with the Communist dictatorship, but didn't demand the missile back
  • and instead removed Cuba from the states sponsors of terrorism list
  • and went right ahead with the easing.

But wait! There's more:

  • Some members of Congress were told
  • The State Dept. does not deny that the U.S. may have sold the missile to Cuba.
And now, "nobody's sure" of the missile's whereabouts, but one can't rule North Korea among the possibilities,

Makes the Sean Penn's movie deal disguised as a Rolling Stone mag interview with El Chapo - the most blood-thirsty drug lord of this century so far - look like a plot for a Disney movie.]

I can't even begin to fathom this one! Is our State Department now working against America rather than for it? Or is it just whose in charge, a guy who could have arguably been charged withtreason if Vietnam has been a properly declared war as per our Constitution?

Usually, Weasels have motives that can be understood - greed, personal interest, or sheer hypocrisy. This one doesn't even make sense when it comes to the usual levels of weaselness unless something is very, very rotten in Washington.

Well, there it is.

Check back next Tuesday to see who next week's nominees for Weasel of the Week are!

Al-Jazeera America Is Shutting Down

Yes, Pravda-on-the-Hudson is reporting that al-Jazeera,AKA Jihad TV is calling it quits here in the US.

After paying a cool $500 mill to acquire Al Gore's Current TV, the call went out to jihad-friendly writers and on air personalities everywhere to come aboard and preach dawa to America on the Emir of Qatar's dime. And they spent millions promoting al-Jazeera as a smart, new and happening thing.

Fortunately, American audiences never bought into it. Jihad TV started in August of 2013 with tops, 15,000 prime time viewers on a good night. No matter what, they were never able to get more than 20,000 to 30,000 viewers per night. And that was when things were going extremely well.

In addition, there was quite a bit of behind the scenes drama, micro-management and genuinely nasty behavior off screen involving the management and the staff, many of whom jumped ship or were fired. And there were lawsuits from former employees complaining of sexual harassment and anti-semitism at the Arab-owned station...what a surprise, eh?

Today, in a memo to the staff, Al Jazeera America’s chief executive, Al Anstey announced that Jihad TV was pulling the plug and would cease operations no later than April 30th. Instead, Anstey said they plan to expand their digital presence in the United States and “bring new global content into America.”

 http://www.digitalislam.eu/dwn/1003/8122C300x300_jhdonline2.jpg

So we're not entirely rid of this Islamist propaganda outlet...they'll still have their website. But at least these swine are off the air. And speaking of swine, I've always wondered what the climate change groupies thought of Big Al profiting by selling a TV station to a country like Qatar that produces all that horrible petro-chemical energy?

At any event, good riddance.

President Obama's SOTU - Out With A Pathetic, Self- Serving Whine

http://d.ibtimes.co.uk/en/full/1473827/barack-obama.jpg?w=736

My normal saying when covering something like this is that I watch these things so you don't have to. This time, I couldn't even get close to lasting through the whole thing. You're welcome to try, but there should be a medical advisory on watching this one.

It's gotten to the point where our president doesn't even have to make an effort to act like he believes what he's telling us. The self-serving lies have actually gotten pathological. And as usual, nothing, absolutely nothing is ever his fault.

I think Rand Paul, being interviewed this morning on Good Morning with Dan Mitchell had it exactly right. “Well, I think from President Obama’s perspective, the best thing he could do would be to leave office early. I wish that tonight he would announce, ‘hey guys, I’ve really been a failure as a president over the last seven years and I’m gonna take off early so cause I want to go play golf.’"

As much as the president tried to use this to BS and build himself a legacy, the emperor's new clothes aren't covering a thing. For example, he touted the success of ObamaCare, totally ignoring the fact that most of the state exchanges have either gone belly up or are about to, that the 'savings' he promised are a total myth, that the 18 million new people he claims signed up are almost all freebies who are being subsidized and would have been covered far better by existing MedicAid programs anyway, without totally destroying the existing system and spending the billions ObamaCare cost to implement. The so-called Affordable Care Act is anything but, with many Americans forced to pay much more for a lot less care or even going without medical coverage and paying the tax penalty because it's actually a lot cheaper than Obamacare's cheapest Bronze coverage with its expensive premiums and huge deductibles.

I reached my limit at the part where this most partisan of presidents, who has done everything he could to illegally bypass congress, demonize Republicans and avoid working with them threw in his little song and dance about how we need to 'fix our politics,' something that of course, he had no part in wrecking. That's the point where I simply couldn't watch anymore.

There's a lot more I could do to tear this stuff apart, but why bother? He's a miserably failed president with a despicable character and the only question that remains is how much damage he's going to do before January 2017.

Watcher's Council Nominations - The Watcher's Birthday Bash Edition

Welcome to the Watcher's Council, a blogging group consisting of some of the most incisive blogs in the 'sphere, and the longest running group of its kind in existence. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. Then we vote on the best two posts, with the results appearing on Friday morning.

Council News:

Tom White of VA Right and Fausta of Fausta's Blog were picked as two of Newsmax's Top 50 conservative blogs and just check out these write ups:

24. Fausta’s Blog - If you want to keep track of what matters to lovers of liberty in Latin America, it’s Puerto Rican-born Fausta Wertz’s cornucopia of political, economic, and foreign policy information and commentary about south of the border, with a dose of New Jersey state current events thrown in (she has lived in Princeton forever). No surprise hers was the go-to site when President Obama announced plans to normalize relations with Communist Cuba — “No, Cuba is not China. No, you can’t have free markets without free peoples” — but she is also the handiest source for the latest on Colombia’s FARC guerillas or disguised Chinese backing of a proposed Nicaraguan canal.

44. Virginia Right!- As Newsmax’s Joe Schaeffer reported last June, only Virginia Right! editor Tom White delivered “an eerily precise post” predicting the stunning primary defeat of then-House Majority Leader Eric Cantor by Dave Brat. White’s blog continues to prove that “all politics is local” isn’t just a catchphrase; the local knowledge of politics is no longer restricted to local bosses and operatives, thanks to Internet-facilitated people power.

Hearty Congrats to both of 'em..Council Akbar!!

This week, The Pirate's Cove, Gates Of Vienna, Blazing Cat Fur and The Daily Caller earned honorable mention status with some great articles.

Our Weasel of The Week Nominees!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/89/256833910_dc5e794df2.jpg

It's time once again for the Watcher's Council's 'Weasel Of The Week' nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday , tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!

Here are this weeks' nominees....

Hollywood Wack Job And Dictator/Psycopath Groupie Sean Penn!!

The Noisy Room : I nominate Sean Penn for hearting every dictator and commie under the sun. His latest is El Chapo, who he inadvertently helped capture because he was interviewing him for a magazine that would make the drug pin look like some kind of hero. Then Penn jetted off to North Korea to pal around with another psychopath. What about violating the Logan Act? Don't we charge anyone with treason anymore? Geez.

Penn has met with one of Saddam Hussein’s top aides, then-Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz. Penn’s opposition to the Iraq war led him to bond with the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, an ardent socialist who once suggested that the actor would make a great ambassador to his country. Penn’s other forays into political activism include his foul-mouthed call for the impeachment of President George W. Bush when he won the first Christopher Reeve First Amendment Award in 2006. He also has a fondness for the Castro brothers. Finally, he is buds with the Russians who are touting that he helped capture El Chapo. Uh no. That's not what happened. However, for being a commie Hollywood weasel, I wouldn't want Penn to go home empty handed - give him a golden weasel. Twice.

Sweden's Anti-Semitic Foreign Minister Margot Wallström!!

JoshuaPundit :  Ahhh, when in doubt blame Israel. And by extension, the Jews of course.

Margot Wallström is the rabidly socialist Foreign minister of Sweden. She claims to be a 'feminist' who favors 'democracy' but was instrumental in getting Sweden to recognize 'Palestine', a country without borders as a 'state.' Palestine, by the way, is a place where a kleptocrat dictator named Mahmoud Abbas is now in year 11 of a four-year-term, where what passes for law is based on sharia and where things like honor killings, torture, and the oppression of women occur with distressing regularity. But hey, let's not mention any of that. Because it's all the fault of Israel! Or so you would think if you listened to Minister Wallström.

She got major headlines back in November by immediately blaming the Paris attacks on Israel and 'the occupation' something ISIS didn't even do. In response to that one, Israel summoned Sweden’s ambassador to the Jewish state for an urgent meeting with Israeli Foreign Ministry Director-General Dore Gold, calling the Swedish minister’s remarks “brazen,” “shocking,” and “hostile.”

A few weeks later, she accused Israeli security forces of carry out extra-judicial killings in defending themselves and others against - wait for it - Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians whom were actually in the process of murdering as many Israelis as possible in vicious terrorist attacks.

Her latest bon mot? Today, after Swedish member of parliament Jan Björklund challenged her frequent obsession with Israel as being unfair and said that it had damaged Sweden’s diplomatic efforts in the region, she doubled down, saying, "It is vital that there is a thorough, credible investigation into these deaths in order to clarify and bring about possible accountability.” Obviously she has no interest in investigating the role of incitement and collusion by Abbas and the PLO for 'possible accountability' as a cause of the deaths of Israelis.

Israel's foreign office denounced her remarks as “irresponsible and delusional", but I found former israel foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman's comments to be the most apropos: “The only thing the foreign minister of Sweden hasn’t done is physically join the Palestinian terrorists and stab Jews.”

Quite the Weasel, Ms. Wallström!

Well, there it is. What a despicable group of  Weasels...ANY OF THEM COULD WIN! Check back Thursday to see which Weasel walks off with the statuette of shame!

Forum: What Are Your Predictions For 2016?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher's Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week's question: What Are Your Predictions For 2016?

The Glittering Eye: For a number of years at this time of year I'd issue a set of predictions on my blog. I had a pretty good track record—80%+ accuracy. However, a couple of years ago I stopped for reasons that should be clear from the single prediction I'll offer for 2016.

I predict that in 2016 and despite all of our combined wisdom, knowledge, experience, and acumen, our predictions will not include the most significant stories of the year.

GrEaT sAtAn"S gIrLfRiEnD : Tom Rogan has a great bit about 3 especial events that will not only rock 2016 - they'll reverbrate for eons afterwards...

First, expect new ISIS attacks against Europe and the United States.

Nowhere is 44's predilection for invented realities more obvious than in his Syria policy. As best understood having now surrendered to Putin’s demand that Assad retain power indefinitely, 44 has acquiesced to Assad’s genocide against Sunnis. This latest example of progressives’ moral hypocrisy allows ISIS to retain its fertile breeding ground for recruitment and escalation. And while we should welcome recent victories such as the recapture this week of Ramadi in Anbar, Iraq, we must not overvalue the strategic significance of the Ramadi victory. Because unless and until America turns the flag of ISIS into a symbol for the walking dead, ISIS will keep inspiring (like San Bernardino) and recruiting (like Paris) jihadists across the earth. ISIS’s global capacity to wage its existential war on the West will only grow.

Moreover, as ISIS continues to infiltrate migrant routes, its potential to inflict mass-casualty attacks will remain significant. The administration surely is aware of this. It must urgently escalate the campaign to destroy ISIS.

2nd, expect a skirmish between America’s allies and China in the East and South China Seas.

In 2015, 44's administration endorsed China’s imperial campaign to construct new islands in the international waters of the East and South China Seas. Appallingly, 44 is now openly apologizing to China for U.S. flights in international airspace. He has shown that his “Asian pivot” matters only to the degree that China pretends to embrace the Paris climate agreement. For China, of course, the climate deal was made in heaven: an empire in return for unbinding, unenforceable commitments to take action in the future.

Yet for American allies in Asia, 44’s weakness is catastrophic. That’s because China perceives America’s collapse of resolve as an opening to bully U.S. allies such as Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Japan. But in 2016, as China strengthens its dominion over crucial oceanic trade routes, American allies will probably stage shows of force in an attempt to deter Chinese aggression. These populations — especially in Vietnam — are furious at China’s expansionism. At the same time, their leaders know that if China is successful, their countries will effectively become provinces of an authoritarian Chinese empire. But even recognizing that China is far stronger, they cannot yield for the sake of their sovereignty, pride, and economic future.

Correspondingly, as these nations increase their military activity near China’s constructed islands, China will probably employ force to deter them. It’s likely this will involve limited force aimed at sinking a patrol ship or shooting down a jet. But the inherent risks of escalation are obvious.

American resolve will thus be critical in 2016. We should not forget the cards we hold. While China seeks to expand its zone of influence, it also seeks global prestige. Given China’s economic and military vulnerabilities, the U.S. should escalate its military patrols over and alongside China’s man-made islands. In doing so, we will remind China that our capability — both seen (aircraft and surface vessels) and unseen (attack submarines) — is significant. This needn’t invite conflict; China will back off once it recognizes America’s resolution. But absent American resolution, conflict is far likelier.

3, expect Iran to continue cheating on the nuclear deal. In response, expect the Sunni monarchies to increasingly embrace sectarian extremism. This is the easiest prediction — Iran is already breaking its nuclear-deal commitments by testing ballistic missiles, which are the delivery platformf or Iran’s future nuclear weapons. Indeed, Iran is using the nuclear deal as a way to get the best of all worlds: In return for his pen to paper, Ayatollah Khamenei has won sanctions relief and a huge economic injection into his kleptocratic economy. Iran also knows that once European firms board the lucrative Tehran money train, EU political support for a sanctions “snapback” will collapse.

In short, Iran is building a nuclear-weapons delivery capability while also strengthening its economy and the power of the ruling elite.

The Iran deal shreds the balance of power in the Middle East. Consider Thucydides’ enduring analysis of what caused the Peloponnesian War: “What made war inevitable was the growth of Athenian power [think Iran] and the fear that this caused in Sparta [think Sunni monarchies].” Put simply, the Sunni monarchies will respond to Iran’s new power by giving more support to anti-Iranian sectarian extremists. We’re already seeing this dynamic in Syria, where Saudi Arabia and Qatar are arming uncontrollable jihadist groups outside ISIS (Qatar has also allowed its citizens to fund ISIS).

44 likes to pretend that American leadership can offer only two courses: his way or total war. But he is wrong. The chaos of 2015 shows what happens when America’s active diplomacy is not backed by strength. With the exception of the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal in 2015, global events have been shaped by our adversaries and our allies have retreated in our absence. The world has descended into ever-metastasizing danger. If America does not once again offer credible diplomacy, supported by credible force, #2016 will bring bloody chaos.

Fausta's Blog : I have no predictions at all, which is unusual for me. Too many conflicting signals on everything!

JoshuaPundit : Economically, I think we're going to see a continuation of the current trend, with China (and thus, the stock markets) continuing to be very volatile. If I had to make a pick, my money for the developed world and America would be on devaluation rather than inflation, with prices on many things continuing to drop along with actual wages as buyers become scarce and credit tightens. Real unemployment and underemployment will continue to be at high levels, partly as a response to minimum wage laws, intrusive government regulations and increasing use of robotics and automated solutions.

We may even see the Soviet-style underground barter economy continuing to grow in America. I would also not rule out a government mandated 'haircut' on bank accounts ala Greece and Hungary combined with limited withdrawals by consumers to prop up the less stable banks and deficits in pensions and social welfare spending.

American Politics are going to be a real question mark. While the Democrats pretty much have everything greased for Mrs. Clinton (Comrade Bernie will be history by March 1 if not before at the latest, the date of the Vermont primary) a certain amount of grumbling remains. Mrs. Clinton remains one of the shadiest characters in US politics and one of the most disliked. No, she won't be indicted and the superdelegates have already spoken, so the nomination will be hers unless something odd happens. But the continued success of GOP outsiders Donald Trump and Ted Cruz among crossover Democrats might make Mrs. Clinton's presidential dream a nightmare provided we have a reasonably honest election or any election at all. I still rate the chances of not having an election at all in 2016 as at least 50%. I suggest we all keep the historical example of the Reichstag Fire in mind. This time, it might take the form of a major terrorist attack that the Obama regime either decides to let through for its own purposes or their simply making use of one that happens.

The GOP contest is gradually settling in to a contest between Trump, Cruz and Marco Rubio. I'd rate their relative chances of getting the nomination in that same order.

World Affairs: In the Middle East, I'd be surprised if this wasn't the year the Kurds finally came into their own. The boundaries of the new Kurdistan, carved out of Iraq and Syria are already clearly to be seen. America again is screwing them over, with the Obama Regime giving them just enough ammo, air cover and supplies to allow them to hold their own against ISIS while allowing Barack Obama's good friend Tayyip Erdogan to use the Turkish military to attack them at will. But the Kurds, whom once wanted nothing more than to be America's ally now understand as the Jews did that they need their own country. And since America has proven to be an untrustworthy patron, they will need to find a new one, either coming to terms with Iran or more likely Russia's Putin.

This may also be the year The Israel/Arab conflict gets resolved, and not in a way Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO are going to like. Israeli PM Benyamin Netanyahu has done his very best to walk the tightrope and avoid conflict with the Obama Regime, but he and his Likud Party are plummeting in the Israeli polls because of his failure to deal decisively with the third, low level intifada Mahmoud Abbas has launched against Israel. As a further indicator, that support is not flowing the Labor Party's new incarnation, the so-called Zionist Union. They're also shedding support. Instead, that support is flowing rightward, to Naftali Bennett's Jewish Home Party and Avigdor Lieberman's Israel Beiteinu. Netanyahu is a canny politician who I'm sure understands that the game is over and if he wants to stay in power, he is going to have to deal with the Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians decisively. I'd predict another Operation Defensive Shield in Judea and Samaria, the dissolution of the PLO and annexation of the area, perhaps even repatriation to Jordan of a number of the inhabitants, many of whom hold Jordanian citizenship.

As a side note, I predict that in spite of some internal problems, Israel's economy will continue to thrive and to be largely unaffected by any economic slowdown, just as it was in 2008. This is especially true since the country is now, water, food and energy independent. It remains a country of first world, top tier technology and second world prices and salaries. I also predict increased trade and security cooperation for Israel, especially with China and with Russia, although Putin will still continue to protect Iran. And while anything can happen, I do not predict a war with Hamas or Hezbollah this year. Hamas is increasingly isolated thanks to the IDF and Egypt's al-Sissi and has not recovered from the last war, and not only has Hezbollah suffered major casualties fighting ISIS, but Netanyahu and Putin appear to have reached an understanding that destroying Hezbollah's arms shipments are fair game for the IDF under most circumstances.

2016 may also be the year of a successful and public Iranian nuclear test, as the Ayatollahs continue to show their abject contempt for Barack Obama and John Kerry. It will also likely be the year that the Saudis announce their own nuclear deterrent. Pakistan badly needs money, and in any event, the House of Saud partially funded AQ Kahn's research and Pakistan's acquiring of nuclear weaponry. Other countries like Qatar may also seek their own nukes.

Europe is going to experience  major changes. Stuck in a trap between their own demographic nightmare of sharply declining birthrates and the inherent problems of importing Muslim immigration, different countries are going to make different choices, and for a number of them that could even involve leaving the EU to avoid the complications of  bailing out less productive members and the schengen borders. The Eastern European countries of what has been referred to as 'New Europe'  along with Denmark and possibly the UK are prime candidates for this. As the Muslim occupation of Europe becomes more discernible,  a number of countries will move rightward politically. I predict this for Germany, France, 'new Europe,' the Balkan states and perhaps even Sweden.

Bookworm Room : My 2016 predictions are as follows:

1. Native Germans will embrace extremism, although I'm not sure whether they'll go full sharia or discover their Teutonic warrior roots. Either is possible.

2. Hillary will not get indicted, because she knows where too many of the Obama camp's bodies are buried.

3. I'm afraid to make a prediction about the presidential election. As of today, no scene is too far-fetched. The thought of a Trump versus Bernie election has a vaguely apocalyptic feeling and I just don't want to go there. (I continue to root for Ted Cruz.)

4. This will be another bad year for police officers, who will continue to feel as if they have targets on their back.

5. This will also be a bad year for blacks because those police who feel they have targets on their backs will probably do one of two things: (i) Stop policing black communities aggressively, leaving law-abiding blacks to be sitting ducks for criminals or (ii) start shooting first and asking questions later.

6. Barack Obama will ensure that several hundred thousand more potential Democrat Party voters cross the border illegally, and will encourage an influx of Middle Eastern Muslims. The latter will bring all their pathologies, from the biological (meaning diseases that had been all but wiped out in America) to the sociological (antisemitism, misogyny, rape culture, homophobia, etc.)

7. On campuses across America, even as Obama ships in by the boatload people who openly embrace all of the things campus Leftists purport to hate, campus Leftists will bring renewed energy to their attack on middle class white American males -- you know, the ones who aren't antisemitic, who like women, who don't rape, and who may not have a gay best friend but who are people who believe in a live-and-let-live policy.

8. Iran will get increasingly aggressively, and start waging traditional war, backed with nuclear threat, against surrounding Sunni nations. Obama will speak confusingly and carry a limp stick.

9. By the end of the year, the two big players in the Middle East will be Russia (which was a declining power under Bush) and Iran (which was also a declining power under Bush).

10. Israel, sadly, will have to fight another war. This time, Hezbollah, with a strong Iranian wind at its back, will start using some of its massive stockpile against her.

11. Despite losing money at home on anti-American movies and movie stars, Hollywood will continue to invest in them. This is not as financially stupid as it seems. The real dollars come from overseas sales, and Hollywood is happy to sell anti-American propaganda to America's current and future enemies.

The Noisy Room :My major prediction this year is that if the elections are fair and we see a Trump/Cruz ticket, we will see a landslide to rival Ronald Reagan. I predict the same if you see a Cruz nomination. You will see a major revolt in the Republican Party and it will be reformed or it will cease to exist. I also predict that Europe will come unraveled under the onslaught of the Hijrah migration. They are toast. I think there will be more terrorists attacks on US soil and some of them will include cyber attacks, possibly on the power grid. There will be a major downturn in our stock market as well. Until Obama leaves office, more and more illegal aliens will stream in as will Muslim refugees. There will be violence in our streets because of this just as there is in Europe. ISIS will continue their march across the Middle East and will be supported by other geopolitical players - the Caliphate will grow as will the Islamic threat. Look for Obama to seek further gun control. Obama will seek to head the UN during his world tour coming up.

And that's just the warmup.

Laura Rambeau Lee,Right Reason : 1. President Obama will spend more time abroad than in the United States as he takes his victory lap around the world setting the stage for his appointment as the new Secretary General of the United Nations once he leaves office. He will continue to ignore the expansion of radical Islamic terrorism which is being used to destabilize countries around the world and here in America. He will also use his pen to sign executive orders in an attempt to bypass Congress on more gun control measures and climate change regulations.

2. We will see increasing racial unrest and violence. Riots and attacks on law enforcement officers and our military will continue, and the media will selectively report these incidents which will incite more violence.

3. As our utility companies are being forced to provide more energy using renewable energy sources there will be rolling brown and black outs. This will be a very cold winter and I worry for the safety and lives of those who won’t be able to afford their heating bills. The UK has seen tens of thousands of deaths in recent years due to the cold and they have had to provide heating allotments for the elderly, sick, and impoverished.

4. The economy will continue to stagnate and we are already seeing what is happening in the global markets. This is not a correction; I predict this will be worse than what we saw in 2008.

5. The regulations coming out of the Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB) for the mortgage industry will create another mortgage collapse. I am not sure if it will happen this year, but reports show ninety percent of the mortgages originated in the first three months (October 2015 – December 2015) using the new Truth in Lending and RESPA Integrated Disclosures (TRID) are not in compliance and cannot be sold on the secondary market. The CFPB was created out of the 2010 Dodd Frank bill and does not answer to Congress; they are under the supervision of the Federal Reserve. Only those “too big to fail” will not fail as the lending market shrinks and ancillary service providers are forced out of business because the cost of doing business (just to stay in compliance with CFPB regulations) becomes increasingly prohibitive.

Not to sound gloomy, I do see people waking up to what is happening in America and around the world. Social media connects us like never before and the truth is getting told in spite of the progressive media. We are in a fight for the very survival of our country and the freedoms we have enjoyed for over two hundred years. If I didn’t believe we could turn things around I would not be so engaged in trying to get the message out to as many people as possible. I am optimistic we will succeed in the end – it’s just going to be rough going for awhile. There are many of us who see what is happening and are preparing for tough times. Those who continue to be blind in spite of all of the evidence around them will not fare as well. Some will wake up in time, others will be lost. These truly are transformational times in our lives and in the history of civilization. The future of America, and the world, hinges on who is elected president in November.

  Well, there you have it.

This week's winning essay,Joshuapundit's-Obama's Gun Diktat - The Devil In The Details is my take on what's really behind President Obama's new, unconstitutional diktat for what he calls 'commonsense gun control' - and why it's a lot more far reaching and dangerous to our liberty than he'd like us to realize. Here's a slice:

 http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/z39TUdBBnp5kBPK1ANqlVQ--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3NfbGVnbztmaT1maWxsO2g9Mzc3O2lsPXBsYW5lO3B4b2ZmPTUwO3B5b2ZmPTA7cT03NTt3PTY3MA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_us/News/ap_webfeeds/a94dbcadeb9cb2008c0f6a706700e48d.jpg

President Barack Hussein Obama has followed through on his promise to 'go after guns' via executive order and it was really quite a show. I especially liked the part where he started weeping crocodile tears over schoolchildren gunned down in Newtown, Connecticut in 2012.

"First graders in Newtown. First graders," Obama said, pausing to collect himself. "Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad."

This concern for children from a man who fought tooth and nail for infanticide?  So touching.

At first glance, the president's diktat on guns seems reasonable. Prog fascists are very good at that, and of course, the president was quick to use the usual progressive talking point  that everyone knows this is the right thing to do. Or to use his exact words, there's what he called 'a broad consensus' supporting this, but those mean nasty Republicans in Congress just won't act, so he has to.

The president admitted that his plan wouldn't have stopped what happened in San Bernardino, but he feels this has to be done anyway, in order to 'make if harder for criminals to get guns.'

I wish all the victims of the murders attributed to the President's own efforts to put guns in the hands of criminals via Fast and Furious had been in the room, looking right at him when he said that. Now, their reaction would have been must see TV.

Before we discuss what the president has in mind, let's get something out in the open. Prog fascists aren't interested in getting guns out of the hands of criminals. They want confiscation of guns from the law abiding, because that's the route to the absolute power they revel in. There's nothing the president is proposing that's going to get guns out of the hands of criminals, but it will make a lot of law abiding citizens helpless before them.

When you deal with a Barack Obama and those of his ilk, you have to realize that they play the long game. First, they propose something that sounds relatively reasonable, like say, ObamaCare where if you liked your plan, you could keep your plan...and just think of the savings and how cheap the premiums will be! Months later when the peons wake up down the road and realize how they've been lied to and screwed over, it's too late to get rid of it without a major effort.

Please keep this in mind as we continue our discussion...Obama's agenda never changes. When it comes to our pathological liar of a president, whatever he and his dutiful minions might say to grease something through has nothing to do with how it's eventually applied. And the ultimate destination remains the same. In this case, it's gun confiscation.

So with that said, let's look at President Obama's new diktat on guns. And remember, he's tried to get this sort of thing through congress twice before and both times it has failed by bi-partisan majorities.

The first thing he wants is to promulgate that wonderful lefty myth, 'the gun show loophole.' The truth, as anyone who's ever been to one can tell you is that it doesn't exist.

If you go to a gun show, what you will see is licensed dealers,, because the people whom put on these things aren't looking to go to jail for aiding and abetting illegal weapons transaction. If you see something on one of the dealer's tables you like, they still are required to do a background check, the same as if you were in a brick and mortar store. All the laws, restrictions, waiting periods etc. all still apply. Also, as a licensed dealer in every state of the union you're restricted to either selling guns at the registered address of your store or at an organized, licensed gun show. You can sell guns online out of state, but they must be legal in your buyer's home state and they must be shipped to a licensed dealer in your buyer's home state, where once again a background check has to be done and a waiting period imposed in accordance with the laws of the purchaser's home state. Doing it any other way is a felony offense and not something a licensed gun dealer is going to risk prison and the loss of his livelihood for.

So the president talking about closing this fairy tale 'loophole' this means very little in and of itself and it certainly won't keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but it fits in with the rest of the president's agenda when it comes to convincing people who aren't even aware of which end of a firearm points where that this is somehow necessary and important.

The next thing he wants, and the heart of his plan is to hire a lot more ATF and FBI agents to provide scrutiny on things like enhanced background checks. But remember two things; first of all, they work for President Obama and are going to do what he tells them to do - just like the IRS. And second, criminals don't obtain firearms using methods where a background check is required. In the case of San Bernardino, the two killers and the friend that purchased additional firearms and explosives for them had no criminal record. And in the Newtown shooting, Adam Lanza likewise had no record, and got his weaponry by murdering his own mother in her bed. Not only that, but as I've pointed out before, the only reason any children died is because a school employee violated lock down procedure and let him in.

So if gun confiscation is the ultimate aim, criminals aren't really a very productive target. To really confiscate as many guns as possible, you have to go after the law abiding and somehow transform them into people who shouldn't be allowed to own firearms to defend themselves. And the best way is to work the 'mental health' and the enhanced background check angles, the really devious parts of Obama's plan.

Doctor-patient confidentiality? Faggedabboudit. Health and Human services rules have now been changed to put the onus on physicians to report anything you tell them that seems even slightly amiss to the FBI or the ATF. And what doctor is going to take the risk of potential liability by not doing so? No matter how minor or what the cause is, just a report from your physician that you seemed slightly depressed or not your usual self can ultimately be used to confiscate any guns you own.

And you can trust states ruled by 'progressives' to take this even further. California just put a law into effect requiring physicians to ask patients if they own guns, which guns they posses and where they keep them. Failure to answer alone is grounds for the doctor to report this to the FBI or the ATF, and a doctor can even order your guns seized by court order if he really wants to cooperate with the State. After all, if he doesn't and something happens...do I need to draw you a picture? We could even be talking about criminal liability here, or forfeiting a license to practice. Fear of government is the meat prog fascists thrive on.

VA will also be a fertile grounds for this. Veterans, after all, can all be labeled victims of PTSD, mental stress, maladjustment to peacetime society, call it what you want. The psycho veteran beloved of Hollywood scriptwriters has become a cliche these days. And these are men and women who likely own firearms and have been trained to use them. You can expect them to be heavily targeted for confiscation by the Regime.

What about victims of lawfare? A spurned girl friend can accuse a man of sexual assault, claim he threatened her and/or file a police report with no proof at all except her word. Thanks to VAWA, a woman can even have a man locked up with no real evidence at all, or say that self inflicted bruises were the result of assault or domestic abuse. Any family law attorney or criminal lawyer will tell you that this sort of thing happens with disturbing frequency nowadays. That's especially true when it comes to divorce cases, particularly where child custody is involved. And even if its proven that the accusation is totally unfounded, it remains on the record. Goodbye Second Amendment rights!
