In Memorium: Rabbi Abraham Avrech June 4, 1919 — March 15, 2014

Chaplain Avrech leads Jewish services during the Korean war. I once asked my father of what he was most proud during his service in the Army. He told me that once he led Protestant services because there was no Christian Chaplain available. “I performed a real mitzvah,” he said.

I was saddened over the weekend to hear that the father of my friend Robert Avrech over at Seraphic Secret passed away on the Sabbath, at the age of ninety four. The above photo is of Rabbi Avrech performing services for Jewish soldiers during the Korean War, and is from Robert's personal collection.

Rabbi Abraham Avrech (Z"L) lived an amazing, full and G-dly life, and Robert has written a moving memorium to him here.

I recommend you read it, to pay tribute to a good man who embodied life's potential and possibilities.
