Rep.John Boehner was narrowly elected for another term as Speaker, even though over 60% of Republicans wanted him gone according to most polls. Boehner's chief leverage was his ability to retaliate against those challenging him, and with his re-election, that's already begun.

A better and more effective leader might have taken a look at the widespread dissatisfaction with him and attempted to bridge the gap, but that is apparently not who John Boehner is.

How long can a political party continue to ignore and disrespect its base and continue to win elections? I think we're about to find out.

Welcome to the Watcher's Council, a blogging group consisting of some of the most incisive blogs in the 'sphere, and the longest running group of its kind in existence. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. Then we vote on the best two posts, with the results appearing on Friday morning.

Who's 'Responsible?'

http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/77324000/jpg/_77324704_mognewreuteu.jpg

Sometimes, a public figure makes a statement that simply defies the imagination in its blatant hypocrisy and ignorance of reality.

Those of you who have been following events in the region know that the Third Intifada against Israel is well underway, and that the Palestinian Authority and Hamas are doing their best to incite violence. Against this background, Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian Authority AKA Hamas/Fatah recently went to the UN Security Council in an attempt to get a resolution declaring a Palestinian State along the pre '67 lines that would have called for forcing Israel back to indefensible borders, re-dividing Jerusalem and barring Jews from their Holy sites, ethnically cleansing 500,000 Jews, freeing all terrorists currently in captivity in Israeli jails and allowing any of the Arabs whom identify themselves as Palestinians to return to whatever they claim their homes were in Israel.

The resolution failed by one vote, but Abbas has promised to re-introduce it now that three pro-Israel nation's terms on the Security Council have finished and three anti-Israel countries terms on the Security Council started in 2015. And Abbas is also attempted to join the International Criminal Court, saying that if he's successful he will attempt to prosecute Israel there for war crimes.

Aside from violating both the Oslo Accords and The Road Map, this is nothing less than a hostile entity making a declaration of war against Israel.

In retaliation, Israel decided to take the measure of freezing $127 million in tax monies it gathered for Hamas/Fatah, and is considering other measures as well.

The EU immediately condemned this, and their reaction is worth looking at.

European Union foreign affairs head Federica Mogherini said in a statement today that even this moderate pushback "runs counter to Israel’s obligations."

“An effective Palestinian Authority, committed to non-violence and a peaceful resolution of the conflict, is a key element for a two-state solution,” Mogherini said.

Mogherini said that “recent steps taken … could aggravate the already tense situation on the ground and bring them further away from a negotiated solution.”

“Both sides should refrain from taking actions which could raise obstacles to the rapid return to the negotiations,” she added.

She also threatened that the EU’s financing of 'Palestine' could be endangered by Israel’s withholding the money.

You have to wonder what planet the EU thinks it lives on.

Israel's 'responsibilities?' What about the Palestinian Authority?

In exchange for being gifted sovereignty by Israel in the Oslo Accords over some land it otherwise had no claim to, The Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians agreed to do three things...renounce terrorism, recognize Israel's right to exist and end anti-semitic incitement in its mosques schools and media. Those same three requirements were also part of the Road Map.

Not one of them has ever been adhered to, not by Arafat, not by Mahmoud Abbas and certainly not by Hamas.

While the PLO charter tepidly recognizes Israel, neither the Fatah charter or the Hamas charters do. Support for terrorism against Israeli civilians is a given, and not merely tolerated but rewarded. In the twenty years since Oslo, not a single person has ever been arrested by the PA security forces for killing a Jew. Financing of terrorist activity by the PA and Hamas is a long documented fact. Terrorist killers convicted of some of the most heinous murders by Israeli courts are called 'holy martyrs' by Abbas and receive a nice salary from the PA courtesy of Eu and American taxpayers, and these 'martyrs' are held up as heroes and role models to Palestinian society. They're glorified in its media, lionized in its mosques and have public buildings named after them.

Mahmoud Abbas's Moscow University treatise claiming that the Holocaust never happened and that the few Jews that were killed were the result of 'Zionists' collaborating with the Nazis is a required text in the PA's school curriculum.

And the PA itself is now allied in a unity government with the genocidal Hamas. For that matter, the PLO has already said that the Oslo Accords no longer apply to them.

And when Mogherini talks about a Palestinian Authority, committed to non-violence and a peaceful resolution of the conflict, does she even recognize the years of sustained and constant rejectionism and unwillingness to negotiate anything by Arafat and Abbas and the PA as the main contributor to the current impasse?

Responsibility also entails financial responsibility. 'Palestine' has received more aid money per capita than any other developing nation in history, and they aren't even a state yet. Only the Arabs whom identify themselves as Palestinians have their own lavishly funded UN organization, UNRWA, to administer to their needs.

Yet, in spite of all that aid, they still remain an international economic basket case. eEen former PA finance minister Salim Fayyad admitted that at least half of the donor aid to 'Palestine' has either been stolen or diverted, and the World Bank puts it at 60%. The supposedly bankrupt PA still supports Sufa Arafat in her lavish Paris lifestyle to the tune of $100,000 per month, while Mahmoud Abbas is fabulously wealthy (He personally 'diverted' $1.3 billion to himself if former Palestinian Security Minister Mahmoud Dahlan is to be believed) and Abbas's two sons are millionaires.

Not only that, but the aspiring state of 'Palestine' has spent nothing on even creating its own electrical grid. 'Palestine' instead relies on Israeli electricity and has racked up an unpaid bill of around $300 million to the Israel Electric Corporation, an indebtedness subsidized by Israeli consumers through higher rates. It's to the point where the IEC has informed the Israeli government that they're going to be forced to cut power to the PA simply because the continued supply of free electricity is unsustainable.

Is Israel obligated as part of its 'responsibilities' to continue to supply free power to a hostile entity? And is Israel responsible for the fact that Hamas/Fatah are more concerned with spending whatever money they have left over after stealing for themselves on Jew killing and incitement? Is it Israel's fault that 'Palestine' is simply one of the most successful con games in history, one that the international community and particularly the EU happily bought into?

Isn't it time the EU and the rest of the so-called International Community starting calling on the Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians to start shouldering their responsibilities and imposing real consequences when they don't? Or are Israel and the Jews simply a more convenient target?

Our Weasel Of The Week Nominations!

https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/89/256833910_dc5e794df2.jpg

It's time once again for the Watcher's Council's 'Weasel Of The Week' nominations, where we pick our choices to compete for the award of  the famed Golden Weasel to a public figure  who particularly deserves to be slimed and mocked for his or her dastardly deeds during the week. Every Tuesday morning, tune in for the Weasel of the Week nominations!

 Here are this weeks' nominees:

 http://www.thesleuthjournal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/trust-me.jpg
President of the 57 states and fluent Austrian speaker Barack Obama!!

The Independent Sentinel :I really can't ignore Barack Obama this week. He's out-weaseled himself.

His NPR interview was chock full of delusional quotes. We are all living out his dangerous, delusional world view.

During the NPR interview, it became clear that he thinks Iran could be a very 'successful regional power':

There’s incredible talent and resources and sophistication inside of Iran,” he said, “and it would be a very successful regional power that was also abiding by international norms and international rules – and that would be good for everybody.”

He thinks he united the world and China, Iran and Russia are working with us:

“I mean, there’s a reason why we’ve been able to get this far in the negotiations. We mobilized the international community at the start of my presidency — a classic example of American leadership. The sanctions worked because we didn’t just get our usual allies’ support of this; we got China in support of it; we have Russia that still is supportive of the position that the P5+1 has taken in negotiations.”

“So, when I came into office, the world was divided and Iran was in the driver’s seat. Now the world’s united because of the actions we’ve taken, and Iran’s the one that’s isolated.”
Someone needs to tell him Iran is still in the driver's seat.

He thinks the United States is “less racially divided” since he became president, which puts him in direct opposition to reality. He admitted that he has kept the Senate from acting on more than 400 bills languishing there. He is the king of the party of NO!

“There are going to be areas where we agree and I’m going to be as aggressive as I can be in getting legislation passed that I think help move the economy forward and help middle-class families,” he said. “There are going to be some areas where we disagree and, you know, I haven’t used the veto pen very often since I’ve been in office, partly because legislation that I objected to was typically blocked in the Senate even after the House took over — Republicans took over the House.”
[Emphasis mine]

He also takes the lead for me after responding so inadequately to the assassination of two NYPD officers.

http://thedailybanter.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Rep.-Michael-Grimm-R-NY-Facebook.jpg

Former Republican Congressman Michael Grimm!

The Noisy Room : My nomination this week is New York GOP Rep. Michael Grimm for his tax
evasions, from 2007 to 2010, in connection with his Manhattan health-food store Healthalicious. He reportedly hid more than $1 million in receipts and wages at Healthalicious, a Manhattan restaurant he owned before he was elected to Congress in 2010. Though Grimm originally said he would continue to serve, he resigned after talking with House Speaker John Boehner, who convinced him to step down because he was embarrassing the party.

The 44-year-old Grimm, a former Marine and FBI agent, faces 24 to 30months in prison, according to federal sentencing guidelines. He is scheduled to be sentenced June 8th. If the Dems win the seat in NY, it takes the only Congressional seat away from Republicans in the state.Shame on Grimm - I expect better from a Marine.

In last Tuesday's hearing before Judge Pamela Chen, Grimm pleaded guilty
to one count of aiding in the filing of a false tax return in 2009. In a
document submitted to the court, he admitted to all the illegal conduct
alleged in his 20-count indictment, including hiring undocumented
immigrants and lying under oath in a deposition in 2013, when he had
been in Congress for two years.

One of the worst parts, in my opinion, is that he lied about being a Tea
Party candidate to get the support and endorsement of those such as
Sarah Palin. Grimm did not join the Tea Party Caucus within the House, and instead joined the more moderate Republican Main Street Partnership.

After being elected, when asked by Sean Hannity if he was a Conservative, he
wouldn't even say he was one at that point. It is now blatantly obvious he was never a Conservative or a Tea Party adherent. He was a RINO in Tea Party clothing.

http://media.nola.com/education_impact/photo/teresa-sullivan-university-virginiajpg-9d8e5f4493dc6e8f.jpg
University of Virginia President And Male Basher Teresa Sullivan!!

The Razor : My WOTW is University of Virginia President Teresa Sullivan for continuing a ban on fraternity activities and refusing to apologize to the Greek community even after the Rolling Stone article that prompted the ban was thoroughly debunked. I am no friend of the Greeks (unless it’s the Ancient Greek philosophers or Greek food) but Sullivan’s capitulation to the rabid PC harpies followed by her sudden mettle after the article was shown to be a lie makes me cast off my typical New Years optimism and reach back into the recent past to anoint Ms. Sullivan our First Weasel of 2015.

 http://0.tqn.com/d/politicalhumor/1/S/u/K/2/palin-precious-peta.jpg

PETA!!

Ask Marion : My Weasel of the Week nominee is PETA.

Sarah Palin posted a photo of her 6-year-old special needs son, Trig, trying to help with the dishes. Nobody immediately reacted when he said he needed help to reach the sink, so Trip took it upon himself to solve the problem. He stood on the family dog, Jill, a black lab especially trained to be a companion for kids like Trig who suffers from down syndrome.

When Palin posted the photo, PETA went nuts. Now I'm a dog lover, but really???

Hmmm... funny thing?!? When Ellen DeGeneres, who doesn't suffer from Downs or the [ike, posted virtually the same photo of herself standing on the family dog as a child, there were crickets from PETA and then they nominated her women of the year.

And when President Obama admitted that he ate dog meat as a child in Indonesia there wasn't a peep either from PETA.

Or how about when New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio dropped the groundhog, who eventually died, at the yearly celebration? I don't remember a peep from PETA either.

But like with anything else in today's climate, if you are a Democrat or a Progressive from either party, you are untouchable and always excused, but if you are a Reublican or worse yet. a tea party Republican, you are fair game with a target on your back for anyone or any group to inflict their fake outrage. Just ask former Governer and GOP Presidential Candidate Romney .

But Sarah Palin responded to PETA like only Sarah can!

Well, there it is! Are these worthy weasels or what? Check back Thursday to see which Weasel walks off with the statuette of shame!

Make sure to tune in every Monday for the Watcher’s Forum.

And remember, every Wednesday, the Council has its weekly contest with the members nominating two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council. The votes are cast by the Council, and the results are posted on Friday morning.

It’s a weekly magazine of some of the best stuff written in the blogosphere, and you won’t want to miss it...or any of the other fantabulous Watcher's Council content.

Forum: What Do You See As The Greatest Strategic Threat America Faces Today?

Every week on Monday morning , the Council and our invited guests weigh in at the Watcher's Forum, short takes on a major issue of the day, the culture, or daily living. This week's question: What Do You See As The Greatest Strategic Threat America Faces Today?

Simply Jews: I would say it is Chinese economic (and, in its steps) military expansion. The way to counter it is in reviving US economy and US economic presence all over the world. Starting with South America, where China, Iran and similar regimes are making inroads.

The Razor: The greatest strategic threat to America continues to be an internal one. External forces, whether it’s Great Britain, Japan or al-Qaeda always serve to unite us when they attack. It’s the internal threats that are particularly worrisome.

To say this threat is the modern American Left would be a mistake. The Left is as fractured and splintered on important and not-so-important issues as the Right is, and there are many on the Left wing who do not seek to undermine American society and instead want to strengthen it.

But there is a strain of Leftism that is quite dangerous. It is a nihilistic strain that blames America for all the world’s ills and sees America as History’s greatest villain. A leading thinker of this strain continues to be Noam Chomsky who has acolytes in the media such as director Oliver Stone and actor Sean Penn. These white men have allied themselves with some particularly odious characters such as Kim Jong-Il, Hugo Chavez and Vladimir Putin. Ironically these men have profited from their views while living in the very society they seek to destroy. Chomsky hasn’t given up his comfortable life in Massachusetts for Pyongyang, and Oliver Stone hasn’t quit Hollywood for Moscow, yet that hasn’t stopped them from condemning their own society while extolling the virtues of despotic regimes.

Ideologies exist on a multi-dimensional spectrum, and the Right has its racist paleoconservatives just as the Left has its moonbats. But the difference is that the Left hasn’t rejected their crazies the way the Right has been forced to do. Rep. Steve Scalise made front page news when it was reported that he spoke before a white nationalist conference in 2002. What didn’t make the front page was the fact Scalise spoke to a different, non-racist group within the same hotel at that time. Meanwhile anti-Semites like Al Sharpton, Rev. Wright and Jesse Jackson continue to be embraced by the Left just as Chomsky and his minions are. The Left has not purged itself of the crazies the way the Right has, most notably William F. Buckley jr’s purges of the 1950s and 1960s that created modern American conservatism.

Just as the Aryan Nations seeks to create a new America without minorities, Leftists like Chomsky seek to create a world without America. They therefore actively undermine American efforts both internally and externally whenever possible, thereby increasing the suffering of both Americans and those they wish to help such as Ukraine, where Oliver Stone recently stated his support for Vladimir Putin’s partition of the country.

Russia is not the danger to the US. The condoning of Oliver Stone’s statements by the silence of the Left is far more dangerous. Such silence increases the likelihood of war between the US and Russia. It also encourages our enemies to see America as a “paper tiger,” the greatest historical fallacy America’s enemies have ever believed. Once they reach that point there is no return except through conflict and their inevitable destruction.

JoshuaPundit : 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC, AKA The White House. A fish rots from the head.

We have a dysfunctional commander-in-chief whom the vast majority of our military hold quite rightly in disdain, because he has no understanding of their actual mission and endangers their lives with ridiculous rules of engagement. He's gotten us in two illegal wars while losing the war in AfPack and squandering the peace won in Iraq. He's responsible for the deaths of thousands of people in Libya, Algeria and Mali as well as the rise of IS in Syria and Iraq. He has successfully shrunk our military to pre-WWII numbers and cut our nuclear weapons stockpile to unacceptable levels, including our anti-missile defenses. And the Obama presidency has given encouragement to some of the worst radicals in America as well as putting America deeply in debt to no purpose.

Even worse, he has emboldened our enemies and alienated our allies. He and his State Department appointees have mismanaged the relationship with, among others, Israel, India, Canada, Germany,  Russia and China to the point where they are far worse than they were when he took office... not to mention his outright appeasement of Iran

I'm not particularly worried about Russia or China. Both are rational actors, and neither can afford a war either financially, strategically or demographically. A different tone in Washington backed by appropriate action  is needed, but that's not out of the realm of possibility. China in particular needs the U.S. as a market and as a counterbalance against Russia, with whom they have never had a good relationship historically in spite of appearances.

Iran is a very different matter. They are not rational actors and are by far the biggest threat after the current leadership in Washington. The  Iranian regime has never suffered any major consequences for their actions against the United States including their aiding and abetting 9/11  and have learned that they need not fear us, especially under this president.

That, I'm convinced, will come back to haunt us unless we do something drastic to correct it.

The Glittering Eye : The short answer to the question is that we don't have one. Let's consider that with a little more rigor.

To be a geopolitical challenge a country, group of countries, organization, or institution must have at least three attributes. It must be expansionary, it must have the capacity to reach us, and it must be attractive.

Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan, and Soviet Russia were all geopolitical challenges, each with all of those attributes. That's something too frequently forgotten after their defeat. The Third Reich, the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, and the Soviet Union each had substantial support outside of Germany, Japan, or Russia.

In contrast, nobody wants what China's rulers want outside of a few of the world's worst autocrats. China isn't expansionary. It claims Taiwan and a few rocks in the waters adjacent to China but it's been claiming those for the better part of a century. It's not marching its armies into Burma, Southeast Asia, or India, at least not for the foreseeable future. And, finally, China doesn't have the capacity to reach us, other than with nuclear weapons, something we have in orders of magnitude more abundance than they.

Similarly with Russia. Putin's Russia is nationalist and irredentist but not expansionary and it has been spectacularly unsuccessful in attracting anyone to their banner. Like China, Russia is unable to reach us other than with nuclear weapons. Its nuclear arsenal is what makes the Russia-U. S. relationship the most important bilateral relationship in the world, something we are mismanaging tragically.

I don't see any group of countries challenging us, either.

Radical Islamism continues to attract people to its banner and it's obviously expansionary but it doesn't have the ability to reach us and it never will have due to its own internal contradictions. In the 21st century it's impossible to pose a military challenge when you're as nostalgic for the 6th century as militant radical Islamism is. You can only be a parasite. That's why they utilize terrorist attacks, the strategy of the poor and weak.

China, Russia, and radical Islamism all pose challenges to our clients rather than to us. However, that's entirely because our clients allow them to pose challenges. We have pretty lousy clients and IMO they need us a lot more than we need them. Whether they will come to that realization is unclear to me.

The closest thing we have to a geopolitical challenge is internal. Basically, Schumpeter was right. What we have to fear is our own professional, intellectual, and political classes, all of which are busily undermining the very economy, society, and politics on which they depend for their survival.

The Noisy Room : The greatest strategic threat America faces today is a toxic mix of the enemies from within, comprised of Marxists, Progressives, Communists and Radical Islamists. We are at war within.

Fueling these enemies is a stew of corruption, greed, power mongering and religious zealotry that has never been seen the likes of in American history. Our Republic stands on the brink of a full-fledged civil conflict and the fall of the greatest and freest nation that has ever graced the earth. The final demise will be led by a megalomaniac leader in the guise of President Obama who despises what he views as an oppressive, colonialist America. He will settle for nothing less than bringing her to her knees, forcing a massive wealth redistribution and the subjugation of America as a country and an ideal to Islam and the Caliphate.

While this is happening, the greatest theft of every form of asset and wealth the nation has ever known is occurring by the corrupt, wealthy elite. They will take everything not nailed down until there is nothing left and will leave the nation with nothing but debt, despair, agony, poverty and weakness. She will then be ripe for the taking by the enemies without and the new Axis of Evil: Russia, China and Iran are breathlessly waiting in the wings to feast at the American table after our esteemed leaders lay out the final buffet. The leftovers will be to die for. Only the rise of a true Constitutional Conservative will slow or stop this monstrous chain of events. That rise will have to come very soon now.

The Right Planet : There are number of security concerns and strategic threats I see facing America right now. One of the most concerning is Obama's dismantling of the US military. China is flexing its muscle, and has long been modernizing its army and navy. Additionally, Russia and China are becoming quite chummy as of late. Furthermore, the BRICS economic alliance--comprising Brazil (now under the reign of a former communist terrorist. Dilma Rouseff), Russia, India, China and South America--is attempting to usurp the U.S. dollar as the world's reserve currency. The fact that the national debt has increased by nearly $8 trillion during Obama's presidency is an ominous threat to national security in and of itself. The march of ISIS across the Middle East is yet another ominous development that threatens U.S. interests, and Israel as well.Of course, internal unrest being stoked by the administration certainly is not helping matters, either. I just don't see any of this ending well.

Laura Rambeau Lee, Right Reason : The greatest threat all Americans should be concerned about is the federalization/nationalization of our education system. While external threats are real and imminent, we need to focus on our children if America is to survive as a sovereign nation and Constitutional Republic. We must return to teaching them the concepts of individual freedom and our inherent rights of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” If they do not understand the founding concepts of America, how are we to survive?

The Common Core State Standards are being implemented in nearly every state for grades K-12. President Obama has made a further commitment to funding Head Start for children before they are old enough to enter kindergarten. Think about it. In Florida, nearly 40% of our property taxes go to local and state school revenue. Nearly a quarter of all revenue in the state goes to education. Cursory research shows similar percentages in other states. This is a massive redistribution of wealth from the American people to the corporatists and academics as we see the curricula, technology, hardware and software being purchased and utilized for testing and collecting data on every single child, from cradle to grave. Proponents say Common Core prepares a child to be career or college ready. From what I have seen, the materials our children are being exposed to are poorly written, and the topics are dark and inappropriate for their age.

Our local school boards no longer have control over much more than budgetary matters. Directives come from the state and federal departments of education. Much of the time in the classroom is spent teaching for the next test. Home schooling and private or charter schools are not an option as all are required to teach to the standards. We are paying all of this money into a system where we no longer have any input as to how it is spent.

We must fight the Common Core State Standards.

Bookworm Room : I'm struggling to come up with a "greatest" strategic threat to America. The way I see it, there are many strategic threats to America, both at home and abroad. I simply can't predict which is most likely to happen, nor would I discount a Black Swan on the horizon creating a level of chaos we've never imagined. Here, in no particular order, are the various long-term threats I see coming our way:

1. Unfettered immigration. The Democrats' goal, as we know, is a permanent Democrat voting bloc. What worries me more is America's decline into a third world country because it is swamped by people who break the system, socially and economically, and then replace it with what they know best: corruption, centralized criminal government, and anarchy wherever that government fails to get its hooks into the system.

2. Rampant Islam. Yes, Europe will go down first, but once the Islamists have Europe under their control, they also have Europe's weapons. Europe may not be a great arsenal, but thanks to Obama's two terms, America isn't a great arsenal anymore either. More than that, as the Israelis have long known, Muslims relish death, while Americans, no matter how brave, don't. In the short run, the murderers and sadists tend to have the battlefield advantage. While America can win a long war, I can't see our public or our troops having the stomach for it.

3. Climate change initiatives. All the way back in 1992, when Al Gore, who used to believe in global cooling, suddenly became a fervent global warming hysteric, Rush Limbaugh instantly knew what was going on: wealth redistribution from rich nations to poor nations, and from all Americans to a select, elite, self-chosen few. Even as one climate change prediction after another fails, the true believers are still working to destroy America's energy infrastructure. Without that infrastructure, what's left to keep us from becoming just another benighted has-been nation.

4. Putin. Russia may be an economic basket case, but Putin is a grand master chess player in a world of two-bit checkers players. Obama hasn't even graduated to marbles yet. Russia may not yet have a lot of pieces in play on the globe, but he will.

5. China. Again, the Chinese economy is not a healthy one and it's begin to suffer real consequences from its one-child policy, not the least of which is an up-and-coming generation of young men who won't be able to find young women. However, the Chinese leaders, like Putin, are chess players. The best that can happen to the US and the rest of the world, is if the Russians and Chinese play against each other . . . but why should they? The rest of the world is so badly managed that, in the short term, they can just divide it up amongst themselves.

6. Internal collapse. In Obama's six years, America's social fabric has frayed at an accelerated rate. Democrats started the process during the Bush era but, having revealed to America how fragile how social compact is, then promised Americans that with Obama in the White House all would be healed. Instead, Obama has accelerated the process even more. If America doesn't find a stable middle very soon, we're likely just to spin apart.

And yes, I am a pessimist.

GrEaT sAtAn"S gIrLfRiEnD : A nuclear Iran led by unelected and illegit preachers.

A Persian power with a keen sense of its 2,500-year history, Iran occupies a pivotal position straddling the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. The country has the largest population in the Middle East, the world’s third largest oil reserves, the second largest natural gas reserves, and aspirations to again become the region’s major power. Add nuclear weapons, and this mixture become highly combustible.

The danger is not that Iran would build and use a nuclear weapon against the United States or its allies. Iranian leaders know that such an act would be regime suicide, as a powerful counterattack would follow immediately.

This is not a nuclear bomb crisis, but a nuclear regime crisis. The danger is that a nuclear-armed Iran would lead other states in the Gulf and Middle East, including possibly Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and even Turkey, to reexamine their nuclear options.

This potential wave of proliferation would seriously challenge regional and global security and undermine the worldwide effort to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons. If the international community is unable or unwilling to impose penalties on Iran, and if Tehran continues its nuclear development unconstrained, the nuclear chain reaction from the region could ripple around the globe.

For example, if Iran used its nuclear weapons, transferred them to a third party, invaded its neighbors, or increased its support for terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, the United States would be compelled to respond, although the measures it chose to adopt would not be specified in advance. This argument reflects the public position of many senior U.S. and European officials, as well as a number of prominent academics and defense intellectuals.

Yet this view is far too sanguine. Above all, it rests on the questionable assumptions that possessing nuclear weapons induces caution and restraint, that other nations in the Middle East would balance against Iran rather than bandwagon with it, that a nuclear-armed Iran would respect new red lines even though a conventionally armed Iran has failed to comply with similar warnings, and that further proliferation in the region could be avoided.

It seems more likely that Iran would become increasingly aggressive once it acquired a nuclear capability, that the United States' allies in the Middle East would feel greatly threatened and so would increasingly accommodate Tehran, that the United States' ability to promote and defend its interests in the region would be diminished, and that further nuclear proliferation, with all the dangers that entails, would occur.

The greatest concern in the near term would be that an unstable Iranian-Israeli nuclear contest could emerge, with a significant risk that either side would launch a first strike on the other despite the enormous risks and costs involved.

Over the longer term, Saudi Arabia and other states in the Middle East might pursue their own nuclear capabilities, raising the possibility of a highly unstable regional nuclear arms race.

Abbas - Palestinians Will Resubmit 'Statehood' Resolution to UN

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas gestures during a speech in the West Bank city of Ramallah on January 4, 2015. (Photo credit: AFP/ ABBAS MOMANI)

Palestine's unelected leader Mahmoud Abbas has announced that he plans to resubmit their resolution calling for a unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state of the pre-'67 lines to the UN Security Council again, after the new members get seated. Since pro-Israel UNSC members like Australia, South Korea and Rwanda are leaving because their terms are up and being replaced by the likes of Angola, Malaysia (which doesn't recognize Israel's existence), New Zealand, Spain, and Venezuela, it's probable that the only thing that would stop it from passing this time is a U.S. veto. The United States has said it doesn't support the resolution, which would violate the Oslo Accords and th eRoad Map, two treaties both the U.S. and the PLO are signatories to.

“We will go back to the Security Council until it recognizes our rights,” Abbas said Sunday in Ramallah, in the West Bank, Reuters reported. “We are determined to join international conventions and treaties despite the pressure.

“We didn’t fail, the UN Security Council failed us. We’ll go again to the Security Council, why not? Perhaps after a week.”

It's worth looking at what Mahmoud Abbas his 'rights'...and what the countries who vote in favor of the resolution will actually be endorsing.

Abbas wants the UN to gift him and the Arabs whom call themselves Palestinians all of Judea and Samaria as well as all of East Jerusalem, something that would force Israel back to indefensible borders. Abbas is also insisting on a 'right of return' for all those whom consider themselves refugees to what's left of Israel, as well as for the freedom of all the convicted terrorists in Israeli jails. And the resolution sets a deadline of 2017 for Israel to comply, which means that there really isn't any reason for Israel to return to peace talks. After all, what's left to  'negotiate'? Particularly with a fixed deadline that allows Abbas to simply wait things out?

Voting for the resolution also means the ethnic cleansing of 500,00 Jews, the barring of Jews permanently from their holiest religious sites, and for the destruction of an Israel helpless against terrorist assaults. And it means legitimizing a 'government' composed of vicious, and corrupt kleptocrats on the one hand and genocidal murderers on the other.

That is, if the Israelis comply with it.

They won't, even if it passes. No sane country would.

It remains to be seen if the Obama Administration will use its veto if it comes to that. I think there's a good chance they will, although I'm sure they'd rather not. But it may be that Abbas has worn out his welcome in Washington..and elsewhere, if what I'm reading about the lack of pledges being redeemed for extra aid to 'Palestine to rebuild Gaza. That promised $5.4 billion appears no where in sight, and if Abbas forces an American veto, it is going to give impetus to moves in the U.S. congress to defund U.S. aid to the PLO, which no totals over $400 million per year, not counting the millions the U.S. gives to fund UNRWA, the UN agency tasked with the care and feeding of the Palestinians, something no other refugees have.

The Israelis, quite properly have already frozen the $125 million per month they collect in taxes for the PLO, and there's serious talk about applying these funds to the PLO's huge electricity billowed to Israel.

The PLO, meanwhile is attempting to join the International Criminal Court and a number of other international conventions to attempt to wage lawfare against Israel.

The ICC, while extremely biased against Israel might have problems accepting 'Palestine' as a member. They aren't a state, which is required,  And the last time they tried it, the then-ICC prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo announced that his office lacked the authority to determine whether the P.A. self-rule area constituted a “state.”

Also, the Rome Statutes, the ICC'c guiding treaty  empowers them to investigate and act in cases of alleged war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide carried out by one state in the territory of another. That's also a difficulty since 'Palestine' has no boundaries at present, except in Mahmoud Abbas's imagination.

Even more ludicrously, Hamas, who won the last free election the people whom call themselves Palestinians were allowed to have say, with some justification that Mahmoud Abbas has no right to submit this UN resolution or join any of these international accords without holding a referendum..which Hamas would almost certainly win.

Since they are supposedly the PLO's equal partners in a unity government, it's ridiculous that the UN is even considering this nonsense seriously. Would they do so if this involved any other country than Israel?

More On The F-35 Debacle - Its Guns Are Useless Until At Leasr 2019!

F-35 Lightning II

I - and more importantly, pilots who've flown and tested it - have had a lot to say about the new F-35 stealth fighter.

Aside from being ridiculously expensive to design and produce, the end result after a trillion dollars is an airplane that's too heavy, far too slow and not maneuverable enough to compete in air-to-air combat. It tested so poorly that the Pentagon had to ignore its on standards to pass it, according to a leaked report that  actually called the new F-35 unsafe.

Nevertheless, the Defense Department is going to purchase 2,443 of the F-35s in three different versions, for the Air Force, Navy and Marines, starting in 2015. And they're going to replace two superb combat airplanes with it, the F-22 and the workhorse A-10.

The latest episode in this sorry story? Along with its' other problems, the F-35 (AKA the Joint Strike Fighter or JSF) lacks cannon, and even when it finally gets them they are configured as to be virtually useless.

The F-35 uses a GAU-22/A four-barreled rotary cannon. And in order for the pilot to use the gun, it needs special Block 3F software to aim it effectively.

Block 3F's estimated release date? Sometime in 2019, over four years from now. Until then, the F-35 has no operable gunnery.

It gets better. The GAU-22/A  is  able to fire off 3,300 rounds per minute, but the Air Force's version of the F-35 is designed to carry just 180 rounds. And the Navy and Marines versions are designed to carry only 220 rounds. In other words, a pilot gets one  burst of about for a few  seconds or so.

That pretty much means that the F-35 is almost useless for ground support, something the A-10 it was supposed to replace is superbly successful at.

The A-10 carries a seven-barrel GAU-8/A Avenger in its nose, with 1,174 rounds and a fixed rate of fire of 3,900 rounds per minute. Not only that, but the Avenger uses 30mm ammo, which can devastate tanks the GAU-22 can't as well as taking out fixed enemy ground positions. The GAU-22/A? Just 25mm ammo, not nearly as deadly...but since these so little of it, it doesn't really make much of a difference.

In fact, a big problem with the F-35 is that while it was designed to do a lot of different jobs (far too many, actually) it really seems only fit for one, that of a BVR (beyond visual range)plane for long-range missile warfare. Aside from the F-35's huge cost and reliability issues, it's far too slow and unmaneuverable to engage in dogfights with competing aircraft, especially when compared to the F-22 it's supposed to replace. And its other weaponry - a pair of Raytheon AIM-120 AMRAAM long-range air-to-air missiles and two JDAMS, either 1,000 pound satellite-guided bombs or 500 pound laser-guided weapons - are primarily designed for the BVR function.

The F-35's defects aren't lost on foreign purchasers either, with a number of orders being cut severely or canceled. Israel, for instance was supposed to buy 31 F-35's from Lockheed Martin..but cut its order to 14 and may even scratch its F-35 order altogether as more details about the plane leak out.

This week's winning essay,The Noisy Room's -Meet The Agitators Behind the New York Protests and Cop Killings is a very well written and detailed look at the story behind the story...the groups whom are organizing and directing the recent spate of riots, protests and attacks on police. Here's a slice:

As riots and police attacks ratchet up, America needs a primer on who is behind all the violence and chaos. The media and our Marxist government would have you believe that the protests across the nation are spontaneous reactions to the cop-related murders of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Both were black young men and both were killed by white cops. Only problem is that both of these thugs were actively committing crimes and resisting arrest. Grand juries found both officers innocent. Racially stoked violence and protests were next on the agenda. But things are never what they seem and there are players that planned and executed an agenda when an opportunity presented itself.

The radical Leftist group, ANSWER, is behind much of this. ANSWER stands for Act Now to Stop War and End Racism. One of the major “anti-war” fronts of the Stalinist Workers War Party from the early 1990’s through 2010, ANSWER International sponsored many large protests over US involvement in Iraq during both the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom endeavors. Its leadership has consisted almost solely of WWP or Youth Against War and Fascism members. Since 2006, ANSWER has come under the influence of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, a split from the Workers World Party. In other words, communists. ANSWER shares the same physical address in New York as the Party for Socialism and Liberation. Though they claim to have formed in the aftermath of 9/11, this group’s core has been around a long time.

From Discover the Networks:

oalition Organizations as listed on ANSWER Website:
  • Al-Awda (Right of Return Coalition)
  • IFCO/Pastors for Peace (ANSWER Steering Committee)
  • Free Palestine Alliance – U.S. (ANSWER Steering Committee)
  • Partnership for Civil Justice – LDEF (ANSWER Steering Committee)
  • Nicaragua Network (ANSWER Steering Committee)
  • Bayan – USA/International (ANSWER Steering Committee)
  • Korea Truth Commission (ANSWER Steering Committee)

  • National Lawyer’s Guild
  • Not in Our Name
  • United for Peace and Justice
Speakers at ANSWER-Co-Sponsored Events as listed on ANSWER Website:
ANSWER also claims 501c status under the Progress Unity Fund.
The New York protests were organized by ANSWER, Occupy Wall Street and approximately 10 other radical Left wing groups. These groups are economic justice and pro-Palestinian in nature. ANSWER is extremely anti-Israel and anti-military. Their steering committee is made up of Progressive groups, socialists, communists and advocates from the Muslim, Arab, Palestinian, Filipino, Haitian and Latin American communities.

Democratic Socialists of America helped support and craft Occupy Wall Street. Also assisting in the formation of the group was the Communist Party USA, assisted by the Young Communist League USA. The communists are also working an agenda here to ‘change’ America into a communist utopia.

From Occupy Wall Street:
“Fifth Avenue is the world’s most expensive shopping street – a playground for the global 1%. **This 1% is precisely who the police serve and protect. They flood black, Latino and other oppressed communities like an occupying army so as to intimidate us into accepting things the way they are.”
Other organizers of the protests included:
  • Crystal House
  • El Grito De Sunset Park
  • Existence is Resistance
  • New Yorkers Against Bratton
  • NYC Solidarity with Palestine
The communists are not alone however. They are working with Jihadists – radical Islamists who want bloodshed in our streets. The media has blacked out that the killer of the two NYPD officers a week ago was Muslim. Ismaaiyl Brinsley had Koranic verses and Islamic Jihadist propaganda on his Facebook page. He was also cozy with an extremist imam. But you would never know it to read the mainstream media. Brinsley was also a member of the gang known as the Black Guerrilla Family.

NY Times 2015: Keep Blaming Israel, Ignore Palestinian Rejectionism

http://honestreporting.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/NYT-magGlass-01.jpg

By David Gerstman

Today the New York Times, predictably, blamed Israel for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas' efforts to internationalize the Palestinians conflict with Israel. According to the Times, it is Israel's fault that Abbas attempted to get the United Nations Security Council to impose an agreement on Israel and, failing that, to apply to join the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In an editorial today, The Palestinians' Desperation Move, the Times argues:

Mr. Abbas began this week by insisting that the Security Council approve a resolution to set a deadline for establishing a Palestinian state, including the phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the West Bank by the end of 2017. After heavy lobbying by the United States and Israel, the resolution received only eight of the nine votes needed to pass in the 15-member council. The fact is, the United States, which voted against the measure, supports a Palestinian state. And France, which broke with the Americans and voted in favor, acknowledged reservations about some of the details.

Following this defeat, Mr. Abbas moved swiftly on Wednesday to take an even more provocative step in joining the International Criminal Court, through which the Palestinians could bring charges against Israeli officials for cases against their settlement activities and military operations.

While he was under strong pressure from his constituents to do this, he knew well the cost might be great. “There is aggression practiced against our land and our country, and the Security Council has let us down — where shall we go?” Mr. Abbas said at his headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Note that the Times describes these moves not as wrong, but as counterproductive.

But both the appeal to the Security Council and the effort to join the ICC violate a premise of the peace process: that any agreement should come through bilateral negotiations.
In a column published by the New York Times last week, Israel's former chief peace negotiator Tzipi Livni identified Abbas as the one who scuttled last year's American-sponsored peace initiative. Even after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reluctantly accepted an American framework agreement, Abbas refused. Subsequently he signed 15 international agreements and entered to a unity agreement with the terrorist group, Hamas.

Of course Abbas has nothing to show to his constituents. He hasn't made an effort.

Abbas' failure to make a deal now reflects a desire, as Jackson Diehl of the Washington Post put it in 2009 shortly after President Barack Obama's inauguration, "that the United States will simply force Israel to make critical concessions." Diehl, who had interviewed Abbas at that time portrayed him as playing a "waiting game."

Then in 2011, Abbas wrote an op-ed in the Times in which he laid out his intent.

Palestine’s admission to the United Nations would pave the way for the internationalization of the conflict as a legal matter, not only a political one. It would also pave the way for us to pursue claims against Israel at the United Nations, human rights treaty bodies and the International Court of Justice.

This is exactly what Abbas did this week. After scuttling negotiations early in 2014, Abbas went about internationalizing the conflict exactly as he wrote that he would. Going to the Security Council and then the ICC were not desperate moves; they were not done out of "frustration," to take another term used by the editorial, but deliberate moves.

By ascribing motives such as "desperation" and "frustration" to Abbas' efforts to impose unfavorable terms upon Israel, the Times absolves him of his responsibility for pushing peace further away.

This isn't rocket science. It's simply a matter of paying attention to Abbas' career, especially in the past five years. The editors of the Washington Post got it right on Tuesday, by putting the blame on Abbas and blasting him for his unilateral efforts.

What makes the Times' denial of reality worse is that two key data points---that appeared in their own publication---contradict their claims. As noted above, it was a column in the Times that just last week identified Abbas as the party who scuttled the American peace efforts last year. In addition, Abbas himself wrote his plan in the paper four years ago.

The editors of the New York Times have the truth in front of them, but refuse to see it.

Our Weasel Of The Week!

Once again, It's time to present this week's statuette of shame, The Golden Weasel!!

Every Tuesday, the Council nominates some of the slimiest, most despicable characters in public life for some deed of evil, cowardice or corruption they’ve performed. Then we vote to single out one particular Weasel for special mention, to whom we award the statuette of shame, our special, 100% plastic Golden Weasel. This week's nominees were all despicable, but the votes are in and we have our winner...the envelope please...

Joshua Williams (St. Louis County PD photo)
'Peaceful Protester' Lefty Media Darling And Serial Arsonist Joshua Williams!!

VA Right:  I am going to nominate Joshua Williams who had become the poster boy for advocating peaceful protests in Ferguson, Mo and was caught torching a Berkeley convenience store last week. So much for peaceful protests.

On Oct. 13, he was photographed walking arm-in-arm with author and activist Cornell West toward the St. Louis University campus where protesters staged a sit-in.

Ah well...we all know by now that most of these protests are really just an excuse to act out. And nothing says social justice like looting, attacking people or setting someone else's property on fire and destroying their livelihood, right? I mean, you care's how much sweat and hard earned money someone put into that small business or the paychecks the people who worked there won't be getting?

Joshua Williams is down for the struggle, y'all. And definitely worthy of the Golden Weasel.

Well, there it is.

Check back next Tuesday to see who next week's nominees for Weasel of the Week are!

Make sure to tune in every Monday for the Watcher’s Forum, and remember, every Wednesday, the Council has its weekly contest with the members nominating two posts each, one written by themselves and one written by someone from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council.
