The Council Has Spoken!! This Week's Watcher's Council Results

This week's Watcher's Council results are in, and quite a contest in was! We had a great crop of entries even beyond our usual high quality. Believe it or not we had a 5 way tie going on in the Council category that was only resolved by one of the last votes in.

The big story this week has been the 'Palestinian' attempt to violate the agreements they signed both in the Road Map and the Oslo Accords by getting the UN to unilaterally declare them a state. This week's winner,The Colossus of Rhodey's Let me tell 'ya something takes a strong look at the real nature of the Arab-Israeli conflict in view of the current circus at the UN. Here's a slice:

You can't get more moronic than the absolute cretins who continually criticize Israel about their "occupation" and "harsh" treatment of the Palestinians ... yet either completely overlook how the Palis (and their Arab allies) feel about, and treat, Israelis and Jews in general ... or just refuse to address it. I'm serious. These people have serious flaws in their basic moral structure.

The catalyst for this post is two-fold. First is this Jay Nordlinger piece:

I was talking yesterday to a friend of mine about the Israel Philharmonic’s experience at the BBC Proms. Demonstrators refused to let the orchestra proceed with its concert. My friend said, “Were they pro-Palestinian?” I said to her, “Well, I would call them anti-Israeli.”

I am pro-Palestinian, and so is Natan Sharansky — and so is Bibi Netanyahu. We want Palestinians, and everyone else, to live in peace and freedom. We are so pro-Palestinian that we actually think they should be free of dictatorship, tyranny, want, squalor, and lies. Something like 1.5 million Arabs — “Palestinians,” if you like — live in Israel. (It used to be that the only “Palestinians” were Jews. The Israel Phil. began life as the PSO, the Palestine Symphony Orchestra.) When Palestinian homosexuals and other “undesirables” flee for their lives from the West Bank or Gaza, where do they flee? You bet.

“Pro-Israeli” and “pro-Palestinian” — very unhelpful terms. Decent people are pro-everybody. But these terms are unavoidable, I suppose, like those other unhelpful terms “pro-war” and “anti-war.” We’re all anti-war (except for psychopaths): Some of us think that this or that war is necessary and justified, some of us don’t.

Precisely. How would history have been different if the Palestinians accepted the 1948 UN Partition Plan? There was the ever-sought after "two state solution" right then and there. But no; though imperfect (as all plans are), the Plan fairly dealt with increasingly difficult issues that the British had gotten weary of (hence, their turning the hassle over the then-nascent UN). What we had was one side accepting the plan and beginning to make their new sovereign home, and the other shunning it -- and then teaming with numerous surrounding countries to obliterate the other new sovereign state. That's right -- obliterate.

And this was just the beginning.

Jews, hundreds of thousands of who were forced to flee their homes in myriad Arab countries as a result of the Israeli-Palestinian-Arab conflict, settled elsewhere -- many in Israel. But the Palestinians? Two of their "friends" gobbled up the territory allotted for them (as per the Partition Plan) after their unsuccessful attack on the new Israel. Then, the Palis weren't accepted by their Arab "friends" if they wanted to resettle there. Like ... why?

The history since then, as any fan of history knows, is one of continued Arab aggression towards Israel, and one of continued Israeli survival and victory. 1967 and 1973 were the other two "big" conflicts, but there have been many more "smaller' skirmishes in between and beyond. But the utter idiocy of those believe there is some sort of ... "equivalence" between Israel and the Palestinians continues to know no bounds.

We actually did have a tie between two fine entries in the Non-Council category, Fat Man On A Keyboard's Decline And Fall submitted by Simply Jews, a critique of journalist John Pilger and Barry Rubin's A New, Selective ‘Semi-Antisemitism’? Only Jews Opposing Obama Are Evil, Greedy, and Have Dual Loyalty submitted by Bookworm Room, a look at the Left's latest bit of Alinskyite labeling, this time of Jews who are belatedly questioning President Obama's policies on Israel.

Both pieces were well written, but I put on my Watcher's hat and ultimately awarded the prize to Rubin's piece as the stronger of the two.

Here are this week’s full results:

Elizabeth Warren, The Left's New Class Warfare Poster Child

The Left has a brand new heroine, and it's Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, who's being touted as just the one to take back Teddy Kennedy's old Seat from Republican Scott Brown in 2012, even though she's not a Massachusetts resident.

Greg Sargent over at the Washington Post is all afire touting her as the new progressive champion:

This must-watch clip of Elizabeth Warren aggressively rebutting the GOP’s “class warfare” charge is burning up the internet, and once you watch it, you’ll understand why...

The gist is that Warren rebuts the charge that asking the rich to pay a little more in taxes is “class warfare” by pointing out that no one grew rich in America in isolation.

{...} very few Democrats are able to make the basic case for the social contract quite this effectively. And this is coming from someone who only started campaigning seriously a few weeks ago. So she may have lots of room to grow.

Here’s why I think this video is so important. As I wrote the other day, a Warren candidacy could test the electoral limits of true populism in a way that few other Dems have been willing to venture. Here we’re seeing the beginnings of this — this is a candidate who is starting out with her own voice.

Actually, she's Obama with a slicker line, but easily rebutted.

The guy building a business is the person who actually pays for all the progressive wet dreams people like Ms. Warren love so much..not only by dealing with all the fees, regulations and taxes the government levies on anyone in business but by employing others who likewise pay into the system. Thus the Evil factory owner pays a much larger chunk for the government services she mentions than say, a college professor or a government functionary.

Raising taxes strangles an economy. Lowering taxes, up to a certain point stimulates it because when people have more of their own money, they spend or invest it, since there's nothing else one can do with money aside from burning it in the fireplace or burying it in the back yard....and spending it on goods and services or investing it generates more tax revenues.

The Eurozone has been embracing the 'eat the rich' philosophy for years, doing exactly what Ms. Warren is advocating. You can see where it's gotten them.

The 'blame Bush ' line might play well in Massachusetts, but I think the president pretty much has worn the novelty of that tune out. A quick check with the Office of Management and Budget reveals that the really huge increase in the deficit coincided with the Democrats taking control of Congress in January of 2007, and went on steroids once Obama got into the White House and had a Democrat super majority to do exactly what he wanted for two years.

I seem to recall a presidential candidate telling the country in 2008 that if he couldn't fix the economy in three years, he wouldn't deserve to be re-elected.

Whoopsie.

As I said, Ms. Warren may be able to get away with this sort of screed in Massachusetts, but I wouldn't recommend 'progressives' try this in other parts of the country...it's so 2008.

Oktoberfest Time!

Far be it from me to deprive you of scenes of another one of the world's great parties, now celebrating its 201st birthday - Oktoberfest in Munich:

http://cache.boston.com/bonzai-fba/Globe_Photo/2010/09/20/ok1__1284982412_7685.jpg

Beer, pretty girls, and a party setting. What more could you ask? This goes on for sixteen days, until October 3rd.

A merry go round in front of St. Paul's Church. Hopefully the riders can hold their beer n' bratwurst, if you know what I mean.

So what's this all about? Well, a wedding actually. Back in October 12, 1810 Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen (try to say that ten times quickly) and their loyal subjects decided to throw a party in their honor with the finest grub and grog, ending with horse race on October 17th. This coincided with the sort of traditional harvest festivals common to many cultures ( and was loads of fun besides) so a tradition was born.

The ”Oktoberfestbiers” served are the same beers that have been served at the event in Munich since 1818, and are supplied by 6 breweries known as the Big Six: Spaten, Lowenbrau, Augustiner, Hofbrau, Polaner and Hacker-Pschorr..ooh look, here comes some now:

It Begins: Israeli Baby Injured As 'Palestinian' Riots Break Out

A baby girl became the first casualty as violent riots broke out in Judea and Samaria among 'Palestinians' seeking to prove their worthiness for statehood by throwing stones at Jews and generally exhibiting the sort of behavior they've become known for.

The baby was injured when she was struck in the head by a stone while her mother was carrying her between Tapuah and Migdalim junctions near Petah Tikva.

A second Israeli was injured by stones when he drove a little too close to the Palestinian town of Halhul.

Rioting also flared up near Qalandiya and Hebron, where mobs stoned Israeli security forces, burned tires and blocked roads.

I think we can expect more of this kind of behavior.

Two American Hikers Finally Freed After Iran Receives $1 Million 'Bail'

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTj-RYNbusIrthcVbgqyM_XybWXYMRbcjxnYlZKjvXTvXtBVbu0unx4so4Rnw

American hikers Josh Fattal and Shane Bauer were finally released from Teheran's notorious Evin prison today after two years of imprisonment on espionage charges.

The pair were flown to Oman after a 'bail' of $500,000 apiece was paid to the Iranian government, which then commuted their sentences and will keep the money. In most circles, this would be referred to as paying ransom to kidnappers.

The families were there to greet the two released captives.

"Today can only be described as the best day of our lives," the families said in a statement. "We have waited for nearly 26 months for this moment and the joy and relief we feel at Shane and Josh's long-awaited freedom knows no bounds.

"We now all want nothing more than to wrap Shane and Josh in our arms, catch up on two lost years and make a new beginning, for them and for all of us."

Fattal and Bauer were arrested along with Sarah Shourd, Bauer's girl friend a little over two years ago when they accidentally strayed over the unmarked border with Kurdistan into Iran while on a trip in the region. Shourd was released a year ago on medical grounds...after paying a similar $500,000 'bail' of course.

The idea that these three were spies were absolutely ludicrous. None of them are fluent in Farsi (although Bauer speaks Arabic and is reportedly an Arabophile), were carrying none of the sort of advanced photographic or communications gear you would expect spies to have. And the trio were conducting their trip on a shoestring, staying in budget accommodations.

Another factor ruling out their being spies was that all three unreservedly `anti-Zionist', solidly pro-Palestinian and on the far, far Left to the point of almost being cartoonish. They also happened to be Jews, something I'm sure had a lot to do with their arrest and sentencing.

According to what the Iranian lawyer for Fattal and Bauer, Masoud Shafiee, told CNN, the $1 million 'bail' was paid by the Omani government, as was the $500,000 for Shourd. Since there's no rational reason for Oman to do so, what that means essentially is that the US government paid Iran a cool $1.5 mil in ransom money to get these three released, but used Oman as a conduit to avoid the appearance of dealing directly with Iran.

I'm certainly glad to see these people released from the clutches of the Mullahs, but I also remember when we had a very different policy towards Muslim states who kidnapped Americans.

UN Ambassador Rice Accuses GOP Critics On Israel of 'Playing Politics'

UN Ambassador Susan Rice used an interview with former Democrat operative George Stephanopoulos as a vehicle to bash GOP candidates Governors Mitt Romney and Rick Perry for their criticism of the Obama Administration's policies on Israel, and inadvertently revealed a lot about the Obama Administration's mindset:

Saying the Republicans were “playing politics” with international issues, Susan Rice responded to Mitt Romney, who called the President’s handling of Palestinian statehood an “unmitigated diplomatic disaster,” and Rick Perry, who suggested the U.S. should cut off funding for the Palestinian Authority if it continues to pursue a UN vote on statehood.

“I think Governor Perry ought to really consider the real world implications of that for Israel. Because the security assistance that the United States provides the Palestinian Authority benefits Israel directly and Israelis are well aware of that,” Rice said.

“But the reality is George, from his second day in office President Obama has been committed to bringing the Palestinian and Israelis to a final agreement so that there is an independent Palestinian state living side by side with the Jewish state of Israel,” she told me. “He’s done so and will continue to do so first and foremost because it is in our national interest to do so, it’s the right thing also for Israel and for the Palestinians.”

“So for those who want to play politics they’ll play politics. But the reality is Israel has had no better partner than this administration,” Rice said.

When one looks back at the Obama Administration's actual record on Israel, the earlier unilateral trashing of the agreement under which Israel signed on to the Road Map, its six month de facto arms embargo on Israel, Obama's demands that Israel forbear seeking to protect it's religious shrines as part of its heritage, his demands on Jerusalem, his open courting of the Muslim world and President Obama's treatment of Israeli PM Netanyahu not once but twice, her statement that Israel has no better partner than the Obama Administration is laughable, and even more disgraceful is that Stephanopoulos allowed her to make that statement without challenging it.

Also fascinating is her claim that the Israelis need the US to fund 'Palestine' for Israel's security. If the Israelis depended on the 'Palestinian' forces for their security, there would simply be a lot more dead Israeli civilians...and the fact is that the 'Palestinians' have never put a single person in jail for killing Jews. The 'Palestinian' security exists to protect Mahmoud Abbas and his corrupt apparatchiks and enforce their unelected rule, provide minimal police services and provide jobs paid for by donor aid. And yes, to provide the armed framework for a future War Against the Jews, just like it did for Arafat.

Quite revealing also is that Ambassador Rice refers to ” an independent Palestinian state living side by side with the Jewish state of Israel” when Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinians refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state..primarily because there’s no pressure by gullible western donors like the Obama Administration for them to do so!

Instead, the pressure is almost completely on Israel for more and more strategic concessions in exchange for zilch, because that’s the mindset and bias people like Rice, President Obama, Susan Power and others in the administration have.

It’s this attitude which enabled Palestinian intransigence and refusal to make any concessions. After all…why should Abbas be less ‘pro-Palestinian‘ than President Obama?

If the president really wanted to end this nonsense at the UN, which abrogates two treaties (Oslo and the Road Map) the Palestinian Authority as well as the US signed on to , he could do what George HW Bush did when Arafat tried this back in1989, threaten to cut off UN funds if they proceeded. But that's not President Obama's Agenda.

Perry and Romney are entirely correct. It’s amateur hour at this White House, fueled by ideology.

Obama's New Plan: $1.5 Trillion In New Taxes!

The president's shiny new plan is gradually being unveiled..and so far, it amounts to $3 of taxes - oh, beg pardon,'new revenues' - for every dollar in spending cuts.

As I mentioned before, under Obama's plan anyone with a gross income of over $200,000 or more per year is no longer going to be able to itemize deductions, including those for home-mortgage interest, state and local property taxes and charitable donations. The plan also includes getting rid of the Bush-era tax cuts for anyone with a gross income of over $250,000. Just by coincidence, these categories include a huge chunk of small business owners where most of the hiring occurs.

That's how he plans to pay for yet another half trillion of stimulus!

Anyone remember this?

And this won't just affect 'the Rich'. The president's plan includes a whole plethora of new government fees, including doubling and then tripling the airport security fees from $5 to $15 paid on airline tickets, a fee increase for Fannie and Freddie that would add $15 per month to the cost of a new mortgage and a $200 fee to retired vets when they turn 65 to have the government pay their out-of-pocket Medicare expenses. They'd also pay more for non-generic prescription drugs.

One item of interest is that the president has thrown yet another group of former supporters off the cliff. His proposal also includes an additional 1.2% hike to what Federal workers now pay to contribute to their pensions.

"Why (would) the administration ... propose a Social Security payroll tax holiday in its jobs bill, but simultaneously suggest a tax increase for middle-class federal workers?" asked Joseph Beaudoin, president of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.

Don't ask me why President Obama does anything, Mr. Beaudoin. You wouldn't like my answer. But the point is that the president now sees himself as channeling Harry Truman in 1948 and wants to beat the class warfare drum HARD, so he can run against that racist, do-nothing Tea Party Republican Congress. So he deliberately put together a shell of a proposal that the Republicans are going to oppose, so he can blame them when things inevitably get worse economically.

GOP Minority Leader Mitch McConnell actually had something good and pungent to say about this chicanery for once:“Veto threats, a massive tax hike, phantom savings, and punting on entitlement reform is not a recipe for economic or job growth — or even meaningful deficit reduction. “Veto threats, a massive tax hike, phantom savings, and punting on entitlement reform is not a recipe for economic or job growth — or even meaningful deficit reduction. The good news is that the joint committee is taking this issue far more seriously than the White House.”

What I'd like to see is the Republicans put together some actual legislation of their own and present it to the president an dthe nation as a united,take-it-or-leave-it proposition on the maximum compromise they're willing to accept.

Oh wait, they already did that when they passed cut, cap and balance in the House and every Senate Republican voted for it, back during the debt ceiling debate. Except the GOP leadership lost their gonads and forgot about the take-it-or-leave-it part.

Hopefully, they learned something from that fiasco.

The UK Finally Amends Its Anti-Israel Universal Jurisdiction Laws

After years of broken promises to fix an intolerable situation, Britain has finally amended its Universal Jurisdiction laws.

Under the former law, any 'activist' was able to go to court and get an arrest warrant against any foreign national visiting Britain for alleged 'war crimes'. As you can imagine, in the UK this was aimed almost exclusively at Israelis.Any present or former member of the Israeli government and or who had served in the IDF was liable to arrest and prosecution the minute they set foot in Britain.

In just two of many instances, Israeli Opposition leader Tzipi Livni was forced to cancel a 2009 visit to Britain because she served as foreign minister during the 2008-09 Gaza war.And a high level group of Israeli officers en route to the UK for a joint security conference was likewise forced to cancel in 2010 because of the same law.

Former British Labour PM Gordon Brown had promised the Israelis to repeal or amend the law numerous times, but never did, and the current British PM, Conservative David Cameron also dragged his feet about changing what amounted to a huge Do Not Enter sign for Israelis.

But the law has finally been amended. Now, it's required that such warrants have to be submitted to Britain's director of public prosecutions, who must agree to issue an arrest warrant in universal jurisdiction cases in which the alleged crimes were committed outside of Britain.

Queen Elizabeth II signed has signed the new law, which went into effect September 15th.

PA: Palestinian 'Refugees' Won't Be Citizens Of 'Palestine' - They'll Still Be 'Refugees'!

This article in Lebanon's Daily Star is a real eye opener for those who think establishing a 'Palestinian' stage is about self-determination for a bunch of refugees, or ending the Arab-Israeli conflict.

It's an interview with an important 'Palestinian' official, Abdullah Abdullah, th ePA's ambassador to Lebanon, where there's a substantial group of those people who identify themselves as 'Palestinian refugees.' And he says in no uncertain terms that the 'Palestinian Authority's' official policy if that refugees in refugee camps will not receive 'Palestinian' citizenship, even if the 'refugees' are already living in the new 'Palestine':

The ambassador unequivocally says that Palestinian refugees would not become citizens of the sought for U.N.-recognized Palestinian state, an issue that has been much discussed. “They are Palestinians, that’s their identity,” he says. “But … they are not automatically citizens.”

This would not only apply to refugees in countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, Syria and Jordan or the other 132 countries where Abdullah says Palestinians reside. Abdullah said that “even Palestinian refugees who are living in [refugee camps] inside the [Palestinian] state, they are still refugees. They will not be considered citizens.”

Chew that over just for a minute...'Palestinians' living in refugee camps in 'Palestine' are going to remain refugees no matter what!

You see, the idea was never to provide a solution to the refugee problem, or as Abudullah makes clear, to end the conflict. It's to keep these people weaponized in the War Against the Jews, with the end goal to destroy Israel:

Abdullah said that the new Palestinian state would “absolutely not” be issuing Palestinian passports to refugees. ( For obvious reasons..they don't want them to be able to leave).

Neither this definitional status nor U.N. statehood, Abdullah says, would affect the eventual return of refugees to Palestine. “How the issue of the right of return will be solved I don’t know, it’s too early [to say], but it is a sacred right that has to be dealt with and solved [with] the acceptance of all.” He says statehood “will never affect the right of return for Palestinian refugees.”

The right of return that Abdullah says is to be negotiated would not only apply to those Palestinians whose origins are within the 1967 borders of the state, he adds. “The state is the 1967 borders, but the refugees are not only from the 1967 borders. The refugees are from all over Palestine. When we have a state accepted as a member of the United Nations, this is not the end of the conflict. This is not a solution to the conflict. This is only a new framework that will change the rules of the game.”

'From all over Palestine'... meaning Israel as well.

The Palestinian refugee situation remains one of the most successful scams in history. It never had but one object, the destruction of Israel...and they not on lt actually got gullible westerners (including the current occupant of the White House) to pay the tab, but have even convinced the people they're feeding on like vampires to go along with the program.

There is no peace possible with such an agenda.

Sarah Palin On Crony Capitalism

Plain speaking from Governor Sarah Palin on the unholy alliance between well-connected businessmen, campaign contributions and corrupt politicians..on both sides of the aisle.

This is an issue Governor Palin is uniquely qualified to talk about, since she's been on the front lines of this issue for a long time, first as a member of the energy board in her home state and later in the governor's chair in Juneau. In both places, she took on the established and corrupt Old Boy network intent of doing business as usual on the taxpayer's dime and won.

In my recent speech in Iowa, some eyebrows were raised when I took on our government’s enormous economic problems caused by crony capitalism. As if on cue, just days later President Obama selected someone who exemplifies a major crony capitalism problem to sit next to the First Lady when he delivered his “jobs plan” speech before Congress. He selected General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt as his honored guest.

Having grown up with great respect for GE thanks to stories my grandfather shared with us about his days working for the company and even meeting GE spokesman-at-the-time Ronald Reagan during a company event, I am saddened at GE’s leadership evolution. This corporation is now the poster child of corporate welfare and crony capitalism.

This icon of American industry is a company full of good employees who make some good products (and is the parent company of a huge media outlet), but GE is also a large American corporation that pays virtually no corporate income taxes despite earning worldwide profits of $14.2 billion last year, $5.1 billion of it in the United States. In fact, they claimed a tax benefit of $3.2 billion, meaning they received more of our hard earned tax dollars than they contributed. How is that possible? It’s because not only do they shelter their money from taxes, but they also get many tax credits, loans, government grants, and other benefits from the federal government that our smaller businesses couldn’t even imagine being able to profit from.

Joining GE in the pantheon of crony capitalism is another Obama favorite that has been in the news of late: Solyndra. The President hailed this “green energy” company in a speech last May as “the true engine of economic growth.” When he announced the $535 million guarantee to Solyndra, Vice President Biden said that investments like this are “exactly what the Recovery Act is all about.” (Dear God…If the failed Solyndra venture has been what it’s “all about,” then that explains a lot.) As I pointed out in my speech at the Reagan Ranch Center last February: “History has proven again and again, when government picks the winners and losers, we’re stuck with the losers, and we the taxpayers subsidize failure!” And that’s what we’re seeing now, as the FBI raids the solar energy company’s headquarters to glean more information after the company was handed half a billion dollars in “green energy” Stimulus funds from the American taxpayer only to later declare bankruptcy. More than one thousand Solyndra workers lost their jobs. Now as the truth comes out, we discover that the White House was heavily involved in the Department of Energy’s rushed decision to give the Stimulus funds to Solyndra, and they tried to move the money through so quickly they seem to have ignored concerns that the company was not viable. Why would they do this? Perhaps it’s because a large investor in the company (about 35%) is Obama campaign bundler George Kaiser. And with the way the deal is structured, Kaiser will get his debts paid before we the taxpayers see any relief. That is sickening. And that’s how it works: workers lose their jobs, wealthy political cronies stand a good chance of getting their money back, and the U.S. taxpayer gets the shaft. Again.

President Obama has his sights set on raising $1 billion for his reelection campaign. Raising that money won’t be easy. But if you can hand out other people’s money to friends, it must get a whole lot easier. This crony capitalism and government waste is at the heart of our economic problems. It will destroy us if we don’t root it out. It’s not just a Democrat problem or a Republican problem. It’s a problem of our permanent political class. This won’t stop until “we the people” say enough is enough, and we retire the permanent political class that votes for this.

- Sarah Palin

Tavis Smiley, Racism And President Obama

http://www.charlierose.com/images_toplevel/content/8/875/segment_8754_460x345.jpg

Black PBS broadcaster and author Tavis Smiley had an interesting interview with NBC's Lester Holt yesterday that sheds a lot of light on both black racism and the predicament of many blacks who continue to support President Obama.

Like his fellow racist Cornell West,Smiley is upset at the president because he feels he's refused to do enough in Smiley's opinion to put black Americans in a special, racially defined place on the food chain and delivered insufficient goodies to them.

"It's just not that black folks are hurting the most now. It's that there's no sign that it's going to get any better. There really are two questions in black America, I think, Lester, have to wrestle with. At least two questions. Number one: what is the pain threshold in black America? What is our pain threshold, number one. And number two, what is the presidency really worth? Is it worth not saying anything? Is it worth being silent when you're catching the most hell, when you're suffering the most pain? Especially, when you're the most loyal part of the President's base," Smiley said.

"That's not hating on the President, it's defending your own flanks. And whatever happened to that notion that to the victor goes the spoils? If anybody ought to be looked out for, it ought to be the persons who represent the most significant and the most loyal part of the base. That would be African-Americans."

In answer to Holt's question as to whether smiley would expect President Obama to 'carve out African-Americans as a special issue, because he's black" Smiley response is an unequivocal yes.

To get an idea of exactly how racist this little screed is, perform the following experiment. Read these direct quotes from the interview aloud to yourself and simply substitute the word 'white' every place Mr. Smiley uses 'black' or 'African American'.

What would happen if a white politician said that because we have a white president, whites should receive special preferences because 'to the victor go the spoils'?

Smiley goes on to say that he understands the political risk of 'going tribal' ( his exact words) but that he expects the president to take risks. And in a very revealing moment, he cites Lyndon Johnson, Franklin Roosevelt Abraham Lincoln as presidents whom took a risk...but only because blacks like Martin Luther King, A. Phillip Randolph and Frederic Douglas were 'pushing them' not because of any inherent decency or good will on their part about racial inequality!

Smiley's advice to Obama is typical of what he's been receiving elsewhere, to draw a line in the sand and 'fight', to ramp up the rhetoric and attack his 'enemies'.

Smiley's racism and embrace of faux victimhood is obvious, but I'd love to ask Smiley this simple question, if we're going down the racial politics road.

Since President Obama has endorsed policies that have a large part to do with black unemployment today, why exactly should black voters support him?

It's President Obama who has directed Attorney General Eric Holder to cease prosecution on literally thousands of deportation cases on illegal immigrants, giving them an easy route to a green card. And that's definitely impacted blackjob seekers, especially in industries like service employment, building trades and construction.

It's President Obama who pushed through the DREAM Act Congress rejected three times by executive order to try to shore up his political base with Hispanics at the expense of blacks, whose support he takes for granted. Not only has that affected black unemployment, it's affected black college admissions as illegal aliens are now able to compete with blacks for affirmative action and diversity set asides and positions in universities.

Both policies have also severely affected the black middle class, which was primarily created via government employment. Thanks in part to the financial costs associated with illegal aliens, many of these jurisdictions now have hiring freezes on because of budget crises.

And then there's President Obama's policies increasing the taxing and regulation on private industry, policies that have cut down on hiring in general.

Smiley's right in one respect. Having a black man in the White House isn't worth anything if you perceive it as merely a vehicle for special privilege and entitlement based on race and the president in question hasn't delivered to your satisfaction.

But that's the problem with racial identity politics. When there are lots of groups with their own differing agendas to satisfy, someone's always going to wind up gettng less out of the feeding trough than they think they ought to have at the expense of someone else.

Perhaps Smiley and those that think like him ought to try and overcome their conditioning and realize that the only good economic and social policies are those that truly treat everyone on a racially blind basis, and they they ought to vote with their values rather than with racial blinkers on.

That's probably too much a stretch for the Tavis Smileys of the world who live off manufactured grievance, but black voter in general ought to at least think about it. A rising tide really does lift all boats.

Turkey's Erdogan Threatens Israel : "Our Navy Attack Ships Can Be There At Any Moment"

http://www.israelhayom.com/site/upload/photos/2011/09/15/131608342452201232a_b.jpg

Apparently the attempts by the US and NATO to get Turkey's Islamist leader Tayipp Erdogan to tone down the war of words against Israel has not been successful.

In his latest broadside, made during a visit to Tunisia as part of a tour of the Arab world, Erdogan threatened Israel with attacks by the Turkish Navy, saying "Israel cannot do whatever it wants in the eastern Mediterranean. They will see what our decisions will be on this subject. Our navy attack ships can be there at any moment."

Erdogan is still visibly angry over the UN Palmer report, which investigated the Mavi Mamera incident in which ships backed by Turkey's government attempted to run Israel's naval blockade of Gaza. Nine Turkish citizens were killed when they attacked Israeli naval commandos attempting to board the ship after it refused orders to sail into the Israeli port of Ashdod.

The Palmer Report stated that the blockade was legal under international law and a legitimate security precaution, but faulted Israel for what it termed excessive force. Turkey has rejected the report out of hand and Erdogan has said that Turkish warships will accompany the next flotilla that attempts to break the Gaza blockade.

The ramped up rhetoric against Israel is key to Erdogan's attempt to assert Turkish leadership over the Arab world, and stoking the already existing hatred of Jews and Israel is always a successful tactic.

Since Erdogan and the Islamist AKP party took over Turkey, it's formerly good relationship with Israel has deteriorated, and Erdogan's recent purge of the Turkish military ensures that there aren't too many friends of Israel left in any positions of authority.

It's highly doubtful in my opinion that Turkey's hostile stance will lead to a war between Israel and Turkey in the near future. Turkey's economy is not really war ready, something that's revealed by the Turkish decision not to end commercial trade with Israel. Turkey currently exports more to Israel than it imports, and the items the Turks get from Israel - high tech, diamonds and technology - are not easily replaced as the metals, foodstuffs and clothing Turkey exports to Israel.

Also, a war between Turkey and Israel would compromise NATO, of which Turkey is a member and would put the US and NATO, European nations in the position of either having to go to war against Israel on Turkey's behalf or repudiate their NATO commitments. Seeing as NATO has had problems toppling a far weaker Moamar Khaddaffi, it's difficult to see the West going to war against the Jewish State on Turkey's behalf. An additional problem for the Turks pursuing a war against Israel is the fact that Turkey's military uses primarily US- made equipment and is dependent on US -made spare parts, and it's doubtful the US would continue to supply Turkey during a war with Israel.

For the moment, Israel has avoided responding directly to Erdogan's provocation, but it's obvious that the close relationship Israel and Turkey once enjoyed is over and will not be renewed as long as the Erdogan regime remains in power.

The Council Has Spoken!! This Week's Watcher's Council Results

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week, carved eternally in the akashhic records of cyberspace.

Last Sunday was the tenth anniversary of 9/11, and this weeks winner, Bookworm Room's Honoring 9/11 By Remembering We Are Warriors focused like a lazer on an important and often overlooked aspect. Here's a slice:

The murderous frenzy unleashed on 9/11 is an awkward size. Had it been smaller — a handful of people, or even a hundred people, killed at a mall or a hotel — we would have noted it as a tragedy powered by a crazy person (or two) in thrall to bad ideas. We would have criminalized the crazy person and moved on with our lives. Had it been monumentally bigger — say, the size of Hitler’s Poland invasion — we all would have easily recognized it as “a war,” and would have treated it accordingly, both strategically and emotionally.

What do you do, though, when nineteen men hijack four planes and kill 2,996 people? Actual events proved that, in the post-modern world, our nation had no template to define our emotional response following 9/11. We had a vacuum.

The one thing you can say with certainty about America today is that, when there is a vacuum, politics will fill it. Following a short frenzy of national mourning, the nation divided itself into two oppositional viewpoints with regard to what 9/11 means. The Left (of course) took refuge in a Walt Kelly worldview: “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

Leftists in the media, Hollywood, and academia swiftly absolved al Qaeda and Islam from any seriously responsibility for what happened. While only the Truthers could deny that Islamist al Qaeda members flew those planes, people on the Left knew what really mattered: the nineteen al Qaeda hijackers were as much victims as we were, if not more so. It was our overbearing, racist, arrogant, resource-hogging, Israel-loving, capitalist country that drove them to commit their foul deeds. God damn the U.S. of KKK! Those chickens roosted but good!

This template has served the Left for ten years now. The details may vary, but the tone is unchanging. Americans are bullies. We’ve bullied the Muslims so much over the past few decades, it was inevitable that they, prodded beyond bearing, turned on us. And while it’s sad that 2,996 non-combatants (mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons, daughters) had to die, that’s what happens when you give your allegiance to — and, worse, make your money from — a system that is inherently parasitical.

It is this paradigm that led the current occupant of our White House to tell us that 9/11 wasn’t just our tragedy, so that our current efforts to mourn prove that we’re not only bullies, we’re also self-centered bullies. The White House assures us, though, that we can atone for our sins by approaching 9/11, not as a national day of mourning, but as a “National Day of Service.” The message is clear: We Americans don’t deserve to mourn. Not only was it not about us, it was our fault!

In our non-Council category, the hands down winner was John Bolton's The Innocents Abroad a piece written for The American Enterprise Institute and submitted by Joshuapundit. It's detailed and highly critical look at the major foreign policy challenges we face because of the policies of the Obama Administration, written by a man who is a nuclear weapons proliferation expert and one of our most effective UN Ambassadors, a man who knows what goes on behind the headlines and the spiels of the talking heads on the TV news. Highly recommended.

Ambassador Rice:US 'Not Involved' In Toning Down Language Of Pal UN Statehood Resolution

America's Ambassador to the UN Susan Rice dropped a bombshell on a selected group of Jewish journalists in a press conference today, saying America is not involved in trying to tone down or modify language for the upcoming draft U.N. resolution on 'Palestinian' statehood.

“We’re not negotiating any text, we’re not engaged in efforts to water down a text,” Rice said Thursday in a briefing with selected Jewish journalists. “We’re making the case that this is not a productive course.”

The Obama administration has promised to use its veto on any 'Palestinian' statehood resolution that reaches the U.N. Security Council. But if the Palestinians bring a resolution asking for Palestinian membership in the United Nations to the U.N. General Assembly, it's almost certain to pass.

If the 'Palestinians' can upgrade their status there to non-voting member, it means the non-existent state of 'Palestine' will be able to get on international bodies and attempt to sue Israel through the International Criminal Court.

Rice's statement should clue you in to two things. First, that all the talk of 'a last minute diplomatic push' by the Obama Administration to pressure the 'Palestinians' is sheer bolshoi, and second that a deal has likely been attempted between President Obama and 'Palestinian' capo del tutti capo Mahmoud Abbas, and it will likely be finalized as the two meet prior to the UN vote.

The president doesn't really want to have to use the US veto in the UN against the 'Palestinians' and some of you might recall the bizarre anti-Israel rant Ambassador Rice uttered on the floor of the Security Council the last time it happened.

http://www.haaretz.com/polopoly_fs/1.302209.1298066768!/image/3207038548.jpg_gen/derivatives/landscape_295/3207038548.jpg

The president's reluctance has nothing to do with any regard for Israel. Instead, his hand is being forced by two considerations. First, politics. President Obama has finally woken up to the fact that he can no longer take the Jewish vote for granted because of his policies towards Israel. Failing to use a veto to block a 'Palestinian' state in the UN would add fuel to what's already a pretty healthy fire.

Second, what a lot of people don't realize is that the 'Palestinians' are abrogating two treaties they signed by going unilaterally to the UN - the Oslo Accords and the Road Map. The US is a signatory to both treaties too, and the 'Palestinians' are putting us in the position of having to support them in violating treaties we signed on to.

In fact the entire aspect of the 'Palestinians' having any kind of foreign relations like a UN ambassador prior to them becoming an actual state is a gross violation of the Oslo Accords, which prohibits that very thing.

Rice's statement is a clue as to what's coming.

Both President Obama and Secretary Clinton are fetishists for the UN and the 'International Community' and the 'Palestinians' going to the UN Security Council for full statehood and the president having to cast a veto to block it would have embarrassed him no end in those circles. So instead, what the president is shooting for is to have the 'Palestinians' go to the General Assembly for an upgrade to non-voting member status instead to help President Obama out. That way, President Obama can have Ambassador Rice cast an ineffectual vote against it, which assures that the 'Palestinians' get what they want and gives President Obama political cover to hide behind and tell people how pro-Israel he is.

Of course, is President Obama was really pro-Israel and wanted to stop this in its tracks, he could do what President George HW Bush did in 1989 the last time the 'Palestinians' tried this, threatening to cut off funds for the UN if they proceeded. It worked quite well then. But that's obviously not President Obama's intention in the least.

As usual with this president, it's all kabuki, designed to try and fool America's Jews into voting for him.

In fact, most of the press conference with Ambassador Rice was devoted to massaging the assembled 'selected Jewish journalists' about how pro-Israel President Obama is.

Rice said that President Obama has done more than any previous president to ratchet up the pressure and sanctions on Iran,( arguably not true and a pretty low bar anyway) and has enhanced Israel’s security by increasing foreign military financing ( after a de facto arms freeze for almost the first six months of the administration, not to mention all the other ways the president has distanced himself from Israel..there's a reason his popularity there is at 4%) .

She also carefully touted the praise that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and ex-Mossad chief Ephraim Halevy had given President Obama for helping secure the safe release of Israeli diplomatic personnel in Cairo who were trapped in their embassy last Friday by an Egyptian mob who broke into the building while Egyptian security personnel assigned to protect the building stood by and watched.

Considering the president's role in paving the way for the ousting of former Egyptian President Mubarak and the empowering of the Muslim Brotherhood there, I think she's stretching it. Just a bit.

As for the Israelis, the 'Palestinian' gambit to the UN represents a huge opportunity if they have the courage to utilize it properly.

Israeli PM Netanyahu has thus far remained conciliatory and continued to offer to go to negotiations, but a far better stance might be calling Abbas' bluff.

Israel should make it clear that if the 'Palestinians' abrogate the Road Map and Oslo by going to the UN, the so-called peace process is over, that this unilateral action will be regarded as a hostile act no matter what the result is and that there will be a heavy price tag involved; an annexation of land in Judea and Samaria in areas A and B along the lines Israel chooses including the Jordan Valley, the expulsion of all 'Palestinians' now living in Israel without Israeli citizenship in places like East Jerusalem to the new 'Palestinian' state, and an end to all security co-operation,work permits for 'Palestinian' citizens, tax remittances, and trade relations.

The timing for drawing this kind of line in the sand also works in Israel's favor. The 'Palestinian' Authority's economy is almost totally dependent of government jobs funded by the US and the EU, corruption is widespread and 'Palestine's' gullible donors are finally wising up to the fact that a 'Palestinian' state is going to be a permanent welfare basket case....one they can't afford to prop up anymore, given the economic problems in the US and the eurozone.

The 'Palestinians' are committed to establishing an apartheid reichlet where not a single Jew will be permitted, to not recognizing Israel as a Jewish state and to making sure that refugees in refugee camps will not receive 'Palestinian' citizenship, even if the 'refugees' are already living in the new 'Palestine' so that the conflict is never-ending.

There no way to make peace with that kind of agenda, since it embraces Israel's destruction as it's raison d'être. And it's not as if anything Abbas or Fatah agree to means anything in the real world anyway.

The so-called peace process ended a long time ago, and as Arafat's old commissar in Jerusalem Feisel Husseini once famously said, to the 'Palestinians' it was never more than a Trojan Horse anyway. The Israelis are being presented with a golden opportunity to finally rid themselves of it.
