The FBI has apparently foiled a plot by Islamic terrorists for an attack on New York City tunnels.
For those not familiar with the layout of New York City, Manhattan, which is an island is connected to New Jersey by three arteries..the Lincoln Tunnel, The Holland Tunnel and the George Washington Bridge.
The jihadis were caught by FBI agents monitoring Internet chat rooms they used of the plan to blow up the Holland Tunnel, flood New York's financial district and destroy a vital transportation network. What the jihadis had in mind would be something along the lines of the flooding that ravaged New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina
Lebanese authorities, acting on a U.S. request, have arrested one of the plotters, identified as Amir Andalousli.The full investigation is still under way.
Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said, "This is one instance where intelligence was on top of its game and discovered the plot when it was just in the talking phase."
It's not clear or hasn't been revealed just how far along the planning was.
"At this time we have no indication of any imminent threat to the New York transportation system, or anywhere else in the U.S.," said Richard Kolko, Washington-based FBI special agent.

if they flood the tunnel, does manhattan get sink/get wet.
i think the only thing that gets wetted is the tunnel, not katrina II.

i have got to be the cynic here.
and don't get me wrong, i realize this is post 9/11, but these guys got caught and gave up way too easy.
these guys could just claim they were blowing smoke, if you get my meaning.
bottomline, i hope we got a couple of bad guys off the street.
now if we just figure out what to do with the NYT.
Actually, if memory serves me the tunnel is ABOVE sea level..so yeah, loss of life and disruption of transit, but no flooding since water doesn't run UPHILL.
I agree with you, Louie that this was nipped in the bud a bit too early.
Later in the day, I read it was the PATH train tunnel that they were trying to blow up. Having commuted to/from NY today, using a tunnel, this is not fun news.
