Dancing With Syria And Iran

The Obama Administration has a new diplomatic initiative going on, this time involving Syria.

Senator John Kerry, head of the Senate foreign relation committee recently got back from a meeting with Syria's dictator Bashar Assad claiming that Assad told him that the Syrians are more than wiling to resume peace negotiations with Israel and embrace the Saudi peace ultimatum provided they get the strategic Golan Heights, and presumably a chunk of US cash:

"Syria would like direct American participation in these peace talks," said Sen. John Kerry, a Democrat and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Reversing the Bush administration's dismissive stance on Syria, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced Tuesday during a visit to Israel she would send two senior officials to Damascus this week.

Endorsing President Barack Obama's decision to dispatch the US envoys to Damascus, Kerry said Assad was looking past Iran to improved relations with Arab countries and with the West.

Kerry said he believed Assad understands its "long-term interests lie not with Iran, but with its Sunni neighbors and the West." {..}

Kerry said Wednesday that the US should act on Assad's interest in direct US participation in peace talks with Israel. "We should play that role if our presence can move the process forward," he said.

Kerry also proposed the United States provide "financial incentives" to encourage Syria to make peace with Israel. {..}

"We should have no illusion that Syria will immediately end its ties to Iran," Kerry said, "but that shouldn't threaten us as long as their relationship ceases to destabilize the region."

The fact that there's absolutely no rational reason to assume any of this based on Assad and Syria's past track record, or that Kerry is talking about a brutal dictator who backs Hamas and Hezbollah, operated a transit station for al-Qaeda fighters en route to Iraq to shoot at our troops and assassinates political opponents at will somehow doesn't register.

Mention the word "peace" to someone of Kerry's political persuasion and they will ignore everything else.

The conventional wisdom is that the alliance between Syria and Iran is one that can supposedly easily broken, since Syria is Arab, Ba'ath secular, and mainly Sunni, while Iran is a Persian, Shiite and Islamist. But that's a fallacy - they have more in common then they have differences.

Syria is indeed primarily secular..but the Sunni majority is ruled by the Alawite sect, a Shi'ite offshoot to whom Assad and his closest followers all belong. As the minority rulers over a Sunni majority, they share pretty much the same feelings towards Sunnis as Iran does. In the Syrian city of Homs, the elder Assad massacred thousands of Sunnis when he felt that they were challenging his rule.

There's also a common bond not only in Syria and Iran's genocidal feelings towards Israel but their hatred for the United States. Iran and Syria first became close after the Ayatollah Khomeni overthrew the Shah and they later teamed up against the US and Israel in Lebanon, becoming co-sponsors of Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and later Hamas, proof if nothing else that the Sunni-Shia divide is something that can be easily healed when jihad against the infidels is needed.

Iran and Syria have signed mutual defense pacts, and Iran provides the largest share of what foreign investment there is in Syria, supplies most of Syria's oil needs and has helped Syria buy advanced weaponry from Moscow and supply arms to Hezbollah and Hamas. Iran is supposed to have had a hand in building the nuclear reactor the Syrians obtained from North Korea that Israel destroyed last year. The relationship between Iran and Syria is not a matter of convenience but is symbiotic.

Thanks to Syria and Iran, Lebanon's democracy has been destroyed, a whole slew of political opponents brutally assassinated or driven out of the country and at this point the country has become a virtual Syrian/Iranian colony.

But according to the new wisdom in Washington, none of Iran and Syria's activities mentioned above have seriously destabilized the Middle East.

What does destabilize the region, according to Kerry and Secretary of State is not Syria or Iran's nuclear program or their support for Islamist terrorism but Israel's building homes in Judea and Samaria.

Kerry said, "On the Israeli side, nothing will do more to make clear our seriousness about turning the page than demonstrating - with actions rather than words - that we are serious about Israel freezing settlement activity in the West Bank."

He also says that the US should force Israel to open its borders with Gaza, even as Hamas is still firing rockets into Israel.

Clinton, during her first trip to the Middle East as Secretary of State parroted the exact same line as Kerry, attacking Israel for not opening the Gaza border crossings and saying many times that that her greatest goal is to establish a Palestinian state. She demanded that that Israel permit cement, aluminum tubes and other missile components to enter Gaza for 'reconstruction' and alleviating the "humanitarian suffering" of the poor Gazans...even as Hamas rockets destroyed a school in Ashkelon. She even criticized the City of Jerusalem for demolishing some illegally built non-permitted Arab homes within the city's boundaries, even though the City has demolished Jewish homes for the same offenses.

During the same week, there was an anti-Israel conference in Iran where Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei referred to Israel as a "cancerous tumor," that must be removed and the US as a treacherous enemy, and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani issued a threat to attack Israel's suspected nuclear sites.

Neither Kerry, Clinton or any other member of the Obama Administration had anything to say about that..because they don't deem it as being of any significance, and they're unwilling to confront Iran and Syria no matter what because they hope to do business with them.

Israel's a different story, and it's obvious that the Obama Administration considers Israel the real threat to Middle East peace and the focus of continuing pressure and demands.

What's interesting is that for all the blather about peace and 'regional stability' there is absolutely nothing that pressuring Israel will accomplish towards those ends. If Israel were to retreat to the pre '67 borders tomorrow and a Palestinian state established on that land, Iran isn't going to stop its nuclear program, Hezbollah and Hamas are not suddenly going to morph into peaceful organizations and end terrorist attacks on Israel, Lebanon isn't going to become a Syria and Iran free democracy and the threat to the west isn't going to cease in the slightest. Any concessions Israel makes will not affect regional stability in the slightest, or reduce the jihadist threat to the West.

Nevertheless, that's exactly where the Obama Administration is focusing it's efforts - on Israel. While the new president and the members of his administration might never go so far as to say they want Israel destroyed, they've bought the narrative that Israel is the equivalent of apartheid South Africa, a 'colonial' state that needs to be marginalized and isolated to improve America's relationship with the Islamic world and the UN.

In fact, isolating Israel will do nothing of the kind.

If things go as planned and these policies backfire ala' Oslo, a great loss in blood and treasure will be the end result. When that happens, rest assured the Obama Administration will voice its surprise and dismay that the peace process could get so out of hand and that Iran and Syria are not the countries they thought they knew.

Although I'm also sure that there will be a number of members of the Obama administration who will find a way to blame Israel for it.

About Those Israeli 'Settlements'

UN tool-in-chief Ban Ki-Moon is at it again , calling for an Israeli 'settlement freeze' :

I have stated that the United Nations will work with a united Palestinian government that brings Gaza and the West Bank under the authority of President Abbas. I urge all Palestinian parties, and all regional and international players, to support the process of Palestinian reconciliation.

If anything, the crisis in Gaza underscored the depth of the political failures of the past, and the urgent need to achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace for all peoples in the Middle East. Just as we need a unified Palestinian government committed to the peace process, we need an Israeli government that will uphold its commitments. Just as we need the Palestinians to address security issues--as the Palestinian Authority is doing so commendably in the West Bank--we need the Israelis to implement a genuine settlement freeze.

Settlement expansion is illegal and unacceptable and does so much to undermine confidence in the political process throughout the Arab world. I am urging all international partners to make this issue central to renewed international peace efforts.

I wonder..did the Secretary General of the UN write this all by himself? Because it's a lot more revealing than I think he intended.

Let's examine this whole warped concept of 'settlements.'

Some of these communities have been there longer than Ban Ki-Moon's home country South of Korea has existed, and even the ones that haven't have existed for forty years or so. In 1948, when the Arabs attacked Israel at its birth and ethnically cleansed Jews from Judea and Samaria ( AKA the West Bank) and East Jerusalem, they simply apropriated a lot of Jewish homes and property...which is how the place CNN and al-Reuters refer to 'traditionally Arab East Jerusalem' came to be. It was 'traditionally Arab' for only 19 years, from 1948 to 1967. Yet somehow this illegally seized property somehow never got the label 'settlements.'

In fact absolutely nothing was ever heard in the hallowed halls of the UN about this theft, or about the forced expulsion of almost a million Jews from the Arab world.

Even more ironically, when Israel retrieved these areas in 1967 after being attacked by Jordan, they let the Arabs who had participated in this theft hang on to their ill-gotten gains for the most part instead of retaliating in kind. So almost all the so-called settlements were built according to official Labor government policy on land that was either vacant or on Jordanian government land.

Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem is a good example. Originally purchased from the Ottoman Emirs at an exhorbitant price in 1924 by the Jewish National Fund, the residents with great effort and toil had built a prosperous farming community there. In 1948, they were cut off by the Jordanian Arab Legion and their British officers and offered safe conduct to the Jewish lines if they surrendered. Burdened with women and children, armed with a few rifles and facing a modern fighting force, they agreed.

After the Jews laid down their arms , the Arabs massacred two hundred of the inhabitants outright, including almost all of the able bodied men. The rest, mostly women and children were sent to a Jordanian military prison, where they lived under unspeakable conditions until they were repatriated to Israel in 1950.

Gush Etzion became a Jordanian military base, with the rightful owners able to view their old homes from the John F. Kennedy Memorial forest in Israel. And after Jordan attacked Israel in 1967, the Israelis recaptured it and returned it to the rightful owners.

Was it somehow 'illegal' to restore this stolen property to its rightful owners? Apparently the UN and Ban Ki-Moon seem to think so. Just as they seem to think that 19 year's worth of squatter's rights is more legitimate than 40 to 60 years' worth of ownership.

There's another hidden context to this that's insidious, but reveals how closely the UN and the rest of the so-called 'Quartet' including the Obama Administration are signalling that Jews have no real rights in the Middle East and are not to be tolerated except grudgingly.

Both Ban Ki-Moon and our own secretary of state Hillary Clinton have made a huge point about a 'settlement freeze' as part of the Road Map. Since the Israelis are not kicking Arabs out of their homes, what they're really referring to as settlement expansion is building homes for Jews inside or next to existing Jewish communities on vacant land to cover the natural population increase .

Now ask yourself - why would that be a problem? What does it have to do with where the borders end up being drawn, really?

A million Arabs live in pre-1967 Israel as a minority with full rights under the law and no one at the UN is talking about removing them as an obstacle to peace. Is there a reason that Jews somehow wouldn't able to have the same privilege in an Arab state?

Could it be that the Arabs are unwilling to to tolerate the existence of a single Jew in the new supposedly 'peaceful' and 'democratic'Palestinian state the EU, the US and the UN are so dead set on creating?

Could it be that the UN and the rest of the Quartet are aiding and abetting - dare I call it by its true name - apartheid?

You bet they are. And without the slightest bit of shame.

Obama The Economics Guru

President Obama says he’s it’s a real good time for us peons to buy stocks , and not sweat the small stuff like his increased capital gains and income taxes, or what his policies are doing to the market.

"The stock market is story of like a tracking poll in politics. It bobs up and down day-to-day,“ Obama said. ”And if you spend all your time worrying about that, then you’re probably going to get the long-term strategy wrong.“

This is what happens when you have someone in the White House who's spent all his life feeding from the public trough and has no clue how investments work, or how the investor class -70% of Americans - impact on the econmy as a whole.

Tracking polls don't impact people's day to day lives. The market tanking because of theft masquerading as policy does.

And speaking of long term strategy an dgetting it wrong, what about being clueless and unknowledgeable about simple economic terms? What about For example, by not knowing what the definition of the P/E ratio is?

“What you’re now seeing is a profit and earnings ratios get to the point that buying stocks is a good thing if you have a long-term perspective on it,” he said to reporters after meeting in the Oval Office with visiting British Prime
Minister Gordon Brown.

Shouldn’t the President of the United staes be aware that “P/E Ratio” means “price-to-earnings ratio,” not “profit and earnings ratio?”

I suppose President Obama missed out on Econ 101 at Harvard. or maybe he missed out on that particular subject being covered...sort of like missing out on all the racist and anti-Semitic bits in Jeremiah Wright's sermons over at Trinity.

Can you imagine what the dinosaur media reaction would be if , say, President George W. Bush had mouthed this inanity during a time of economic crisis?

Watcher's Council Nominations, 3/04/09

The Watcher's Council is a group of some of the most incisive blogs in the`sphere. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one of their own and one from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council.

So, let's see what we have this week....and do check out the Watcher's take on the media's love affair with the Obamas...

COUNCIL

Joshuapundit - Obama…Wading In It Hip Deep - The current occupant of the White House made a not-quite-the -State-of -the -Union speech last week in which he talked about his 'stimulus' bill Congress just passed, the budget he has in store for America and his future plans. I have a few things to say about that.

Soccer Dad - Puncturing Peretz’s balloon x 3 - Soccer Dad is waiting for an apology from the New Republic's Marty Peretz for assuring America's Jews how pro-Israel Barack Obama was, now that the truth is coming out.

The Glittering Eye - The Sleight of Hand Man - Dave Schuler notes that the Obama administration is now putting the cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars on budget..and also that it dishonestly gives him the political capital of claiming he reduced the deficit when he pulls out the troops there. As he also tells us, this kind of flim flam appears to be an emerging pattern in the Obama Administration.

Rhymes With Right - The Arrogance Of The White Liberal - Greg takes exception to MSNBC's Keith Olberman and Jeanne Garafolo accusing Michael Steele of self hatred because he's a Republican.

The Colossus of Rhodey - How did I get a bad grade? I was here! - Another tale from Hube in the trenches of academia..this time on the sense of entitlement many students have in expecting superior grades just for participating, regardless of their actual academic achievements.

In reality, this is a perfect example of the power education has in young people. These students have learned this particular lesson well from the example set by their elders.

Mere Rhetoric - The “Iran Lobby” Moves Into The White House Moves - Omri notes that the Saudi lobby inth eWhite House is getting a bit of competition from the Iranian lobby and that some of the players are working for both.

Right Truth - Republicans Drinking the Kool-Aid - Debbie Hamilton writes on the Orwellian NewSpeak common in the new administration - and the tendency for some people to swallow it whom should know better.

Cheat-Seeking Missiles - Class Warfare - This week, Laer looks at the origins of the rhetoric and tactics of class warfare as used by the Obama administration. Many of the people who's minds are unbalanced by this nonsensical envy do not realize how much their personal prosperity and standard of living depends on those evil `rich' people who pay the majority of the taxes, do a great deal of the hiring, make the majority of charitable contributions and are responsible for most of America's prosperity.

Now that the Obama administration is targeting these 'rich' people, their businesses, their investments and their ability to contribute to those charities, the people indulging in this class warfare mindset are about to find out.

One of the original Ten Commandments is that thou shall not covet. As we will no doubt soon see, this makes practical as well as spiritual sense.

The Provocateur - Reporting From Chicago’s Chicago Tea Party - Mike has a live report and photos from the tax protest/tea party in President Obama's home town. My friend Megan Fox likewise attended, and has more photos for interested parties here. It contains my favorite sign of the event, held by her three-year-old daughter: "Mommy says don't steal. The IRS does not like competition."

The Razor - Pandora’s Box Opened by Democrats, Obama - As Scott notes, it really is opening a Pandora's Box when you talk down the economy and scare the pants off people as a campaign tactic. Markets run in part on confidence and once that's shattered, in can be very difficult to put back together again, particularly when the policies you embrace ideologically just make matters worse.

Of course, there's also the possibility as Rush Limbaugh has said that the Obama Administration wants it worse, wants people desperate enough to allow the government to take things over and remake America to suit itself. Rahm Emanuel's remark about never wasting a crisis comes to mind. Remember, when socialism triumphs, it's the Middle Class that gets destroyed. The rich and politically connected do well, and the poor get subsidies..at least until other people's money runs out.

Bookworm Room - The codependent liberal party - This week, Ms. Bookworm writes on the nature of the relationship between well-to-do Leftists and the poor.In her opinion, Leftists need to keep the poor dependent on government largess to enhance their own self images.

Obama Pays Off An Old Campaign Debt - Chicago Style

Alaska Democrat State Senator Kim Elton has a brand new job, courtesy of the White House. He's now director of Alaska affairs for the U.S. Department of the Interior, essentially a well paid job in DC with a fancy salary and perks with minimum responsibilities.

Before that, he was the partisan hack who led the charge against Governor Palin during the presidential campaign with the phoney 'Troopergate scandal' that turned out to be total horse manure once the election was over.

But in the meantime. Governor Palin had spend valuable time during the campaign to keep fighting unfounded charges of abuse of power becuase she fired a renegade, loose cannon tazer-happy State Trooper. Ultimately she was cleared of any wrongdoing. ..after the election was over.

And now, it looks like one of the primary architects of a highly public smear job the media had a field day with is getting his reward - Chicago style.

That's the kind of change we can believe in..trust me on that one.

Russia Tells Obama "Get Bent!"

Absolutely unbelievable.

In six weeks, not only has Obama ticked off the Israelis and India, now he's added our allies in Eastern Europe to the list!

Apparently Obama wrote a confidential letter to the Kremlin, offering the Russians a deal - the US would end any plans for missile defense systems in Eastern Europe (in spite of the agreements we've already signed with Poland and the Czech Republic)in exchange for Russia's help in curtailing Iran's nukes.

The Russians said they were all for discussing the proposed US missile shield with the US...but that any attempt to haggle ( and that was the exact word President Medvedev used) by linking those talks with anything to do with Iran's nuclear weapons program was 'unproductive'.

Nyet, nichevo, dos vedanyah Gospodin Obama!

It's one thing to sell out your allies, but it's another thing to have it come out publicly and something else again when that kind of betrayal isn't even accepted by the people you're trying to dicker with.

This is the president of the United States we're talking about, trying to run out on our allies behind their backs and getting caught at it. This seems like the sort of idea that would come from a foreign policy 'expert' like Slo-Joe Biden.

This is particularly distasteful in the case of Poland, who sent troops to Iraq to fight with us. I can only imagine what they and the rest of the old Soviet empire are thinking right now.

The Russians have a huge investment in Iran, and in any case, with Bushehr completed ( plus who knows what else) and the Iranian satellite proving that they have the ballistic missile capability to hit Europe, it's doubtful that Putin could put the brakes on Iran even if he wanted to. After all, from Russia's standpoint, the best that could happen is a rise in the price of crude because of Iran blackmailing the west through the Persian Gulf oil routes.

Welcome to amateur hour at the White House. It will take a long time to undue the damage now being done.

Chris Buckley and David Brooks Eat 'Moderate' Crow

Remember how 'moderate conservatives' like Chris Buckley and David Brooks unloaded on Sarah Palin and trumpeted the virtues of Barack Obama? Remmeber how Brooks called Sarah Palin 'a cancer on the party'? And how both of them yakked it up about how Obama was going to lead us into a new era?

Six weeks into the Chosen One's administration...and it looks like they've fallen out of love.

Here's Chris Buckley:

One thing is certain, however: Government is getting bigger and will stay bigger. Just remember the apothegm that a government that is big enough to give you everything you want is also big enough to take it all away. And remember what de Tocqueville told us about a bureaucracy that grows so profuse that not even the most original mind can penetrate it.

If this is what the American people want, so be it, but they ought to have no illusions about the perils of this approach. Mr. Obama is proposing among everything else $1 trillion in new entitlements, and entitlement programs never go away, or in the oddly poetic bureaucratic jargon, “sunset.” He is proposing $1.4 trillion in new taxes, an appetite for which was largely was whetted by the shameful excesses of American CEO corporate culture. And finally, he has proposed $5 trillion in new debt, one-half the total accumulated national debt in all US history. All in one fell swoop.

He tells us that all this is going to work because the economy is going to be growing by 3.2 percent a year from now. Do you believe that? Would you take out a loan based on that?

And here's David Brooks:

Those of us who consider ourselves moderates — moderate-conservative, in my case — are forced to confront the reality that Barack Obama is not who we thought he was. His words are responsible; his character is inspiring. But his actions betray a transformational liberalism that should put every centrist on notice. As Clive Crook, an Obama admirer, wrote in The Financial Times, the Obama budget “contains no trace of compromise. It makes no gesture, however small, however costless to its larger agenda, of a bipartisan approach to the great questions it addresses. It is a liberal’s dream of a new New Deal.”

You mean the nice man said one thing and twicked you by doing somethin' else? Waaah!

Although in Brooks' case,it's obvious he still likes th etaste of th eKool-Ade, even though what's left of his brain is telling him it's very, very bad for him - and the country.

I appreciate the mea culpa fellahs..even if it's too damned late to matter. And yes, I take it just a tad amiss that my unborn grandchildren will be paying for your stupidity.

Any idiot who actually looked at Obama's associations and his record in Chicago, in the Illinois legislature and in Washington could have predicted what an Obama Administration would be like.

So why didn't these two idiots?

More on this at Commentary, The Jawa Report, Michelle Malkin, Doug Ross, Sister Toldjah, and Hot Air.

The Rush Limbaugh Wars

Commentator Rush Limbaugh delivered a superb speech this weekend that not only was the highlight of the CPAC conference in DC but was the absolute king of the ratings on cable news this weekend.

So, faced with an inspiring moment for Republicans and conservatives nation wide, what does Michael Steele, the head of the Republican National Committee do? Trash him, of course.

Steele went ballistic on Rush Limbaugh calling him an “entertainer” and saying his show is “incendiary” and “ugly.”

In just the last month in an unprecedented attack on a private citizen, President Obama suggested that Republicans were run by Rush Limbaugh and White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel has anointed him the `GOP's leader'.

After Steele's remarks, Rush fired back:

"Okay, so I am an entertainer, and I have 20 million listeners, 22 million listeners because of my great song-and-dance routines here. Yes, said Michael Steele, the chairman of the Republican National Committee, I'm incendiary, and yes, it's ugly. Michael Steele, you are head of the RNC. You are not head of the Republican Party. Tens of millions of conservatives and Republicans have nothing to do with the RNC and right now they want nothing to do with it, and when you call them asking them for money, they hang up on you. I hope that changes. I hope the RNC will get its act together. I hope the RNC chairman will realize he's not a talking head pundit, that he is supposed to be working on the grassroots and rebuilding it, and maybe doing something about our open primary system and fixing it so that Democrats do not nominate our candidates. It's time, Mr. Steele, for you to go behind the scenes and start doing the work that you were elected to do instead of trying to be some talking head media star, which you're having a tough time pulling off." {..}

Limbaugh then went on to detail how much assistance he and his show had personally given to Steele, which but the head of the RNC's spiteful little betrayal in context.
Then he continued:

Now, Mr. Steele, if it is your position as the chairman of the Republican National Committee that you want a left wing Democrat president and a left wing Democrat Congress to succeed in advancing their agenda, if it's your position that you want President Obama and Speaker Pelosi and Senate Leader Harry Reid to succeed with their massive spending and taxing and nationalization plans, I think you have some explaining to do. Why are you running the Republican Party? Why do you claim you lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it that President Obama succeeds? I frankly am stunned that the chairman of the Republican National Committee endorses such an agenda. I have to conclude that he does because he attacks me for wanting it to fail. {...}

Where does the Republican Party go if you, who are supposed to be redesigning our primary system and helping reestablish our grassroots movement, how are we going to retake elective office if you want this agenda of Obama's and Pelosi's and Reid's to succeed? {...}

And I don't understand why you're asking Republicans to donate to the Republican National Committee if their money is going to be spent furthering the agenda of Barack Obama. If we don't want Obama and Reid and Pelosi to fail, then why does the RNC exist, Mr. Steele? Why are you even raising money? What do you want from us?{..}

I'm going further and telling you today it's not that I want Obama to fail; that's not it anymore. The president is presiding over economic failure. The president is watching it, doing nothing about it. He's watching unemployment grow; he's watching the stock market plummet; he is watching people sign up for unemployment. The president of the United States is doing nothing to stop the downward spiral of this economy. He has no economic recovery plan. The truth is, the president of the United States and Rahm Emanuel, who, remember, said, "Crisis is too great a thing to waste." What does that mean? They want you suffering, they want you miserable, they want it worse, they want you rejecting conservatism. They want you rejecting capitalism. They want you turning to them in fear and desperation and angst for an immediate fix to the problem. They want you thinking you have no ability to fix your own problems. They think you have and they want you to have no ability to take care of yourself. So as the stock market now approaches minus 2,800 since Obama was elected, the statement today is to speed up the economic recovery, we're going to focus on health care. Ask yourself how that is going to get you your next job.

One other thing. Mr. Steele, if you want to lead the Republican Party, as you say you do, then you need to run for and win the presidency. You are chairman of the Republican National Committee. That is your job. To run the Republican establishment bureaucracy and prove you can defeat Democrats and elect Republicans, to come up with a new primary system that eliminates Democrats participating in ours and choosing our candidates and getting the grassroots revved up again. This is how you're going to be measured, not by how entertaining or cute you are on talk shows.

By the same token, I'm not in charge of the Republican Party, and I don't want to be. I would be embarrassed to say that I'm in charge of the Republican Party in the sad-sack state that it's in. If I were chairman of the Republican Party, given the state that it's in, I would quit. I might get out the hari-kari knife because I would have presided over a failure that is embarrassing to the Republicans and conservatives who have supported it and invested in it all these years. I certainly couldn't say I am proud of the Republican Party, as I am leading the Republican Party. Right now the Republican Party needs to be led, and it will be. The next Republican president is going to be the head of the party. Last time I checked, I don't think Mr. Steele is running.

And finally, Mr. Steele, we do like to entertain people here. The audience is very smart, sir. They know the difference between entertainment, and they know the difference between deadly serious issues that affect their country. Don't underestimate the intelligence of this audience or Republicans and conservatives generally. The biggest problem with all of you who live inside the Beltway is you look out over America and you think you see idiocy and unsophisticated people, ignorant people, and when you're looking at liberal Democrats, largely you're correct, but your own voters are every bit as informed, involved, engaged, and caring, if not more so than you are. We don't care, first and foremost, about the success of the Republican Party. We care about the United States of America and its future, because we cherish it and love it, and we know what it is that made it the greatest nation on earth, and we don't hear you articulating that you understand that, not just you, Mr. Steele, but hardly anybody else in Washington, DC. So send those fundraising requests out, and, by the way, when you send those fundraising requests out, Mr. Steele, make sure you say, "We want Obama to succeed." So people understand your compassion. Republicans, conservatives, are sick and tired of being talked down to, sick and tired of being lectured to, and until you show some understanding and respect for who they are, you're going to have a tough time rebuilding your party."

Heh! I could have hardly said it better myself.

Steele, of course apologized:

"My intent was not to go after Rush – I have enormous respect for Rush Limbaugh,” Steele said in a telephone interview. “I was maybe a little bit inarticulate. … There was no attempt on my part to diminish his voice or his leadership.”

He certainly could have fooled me.

I hate to say it, having long had a good opinion of Michael Steele but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a certain racial quotient built in to his criticism of Limbaugh..which took place on DL Hughley's CNN show, which draws a predominantly black audience. When Steele was running for senate in his home state of Maryland, the local NAACP actually threw oreo cookies at him onstage. Did he simply go with the flow to help demonize a white man who criticized the Chosen One, a person that went out of his way to help him just to be down with the brothers and sisters?

I haven't heard anyone else mention that aspect..bt let's just say I wouldn't be surprised. We all like to be appreciated and accepted, and this might have been Steele's way of looking for racial bonifides, and reassuring his fellow blacks that just because he's a Republican doesn't mean he doesn't have the requisite race consciousness. Or perhaps it was just ego on Steele's part.

In any event, aside from being a pretty despicable act of ingratitude, it just made Steele look foolish.

Needless to say, the Democrats were quick to seize on this. Tim Kaine, the head of the DNC said "I was briefly encouraged by the courageous comments made my counterpart in the Republican Party over the weekend challenging Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party and referring to his show as ‘incendiary’ and ‘ugly,’" Kaine said in a statement. "However, Chairman Steele’s reversal this evening and his apology to Limbaugh proves the unfortunate point that Limbaugh is the leading force behind the Republican Party, its politics and its obstruction of President Obama’s agenda in Washington."

If Steele's job is to reconstruct the GOP, get the party's base excited and unite the party, he's off to a flying start.

As for the Democrats, their demonizing Rush Limbaugh is something that must make El Rushbo absolutely chortle in glee. I first started listening to him back when Bil Clinton and his cohorts were trashing him out of sheer curiousity to see what all the fuss was about. Now that he's once again the subject of a concerted attack by the Left, so will a lot of other people.

Obama - Double Dealing On Durban

We have yet another example of how President Obama is revealing his real agenda towards Israel.

I'd written previously on how the Obama Administration had decided to participate in Durban II, a vicious fascist extravaganza against Israel and the Jews scheduled to be held in Geneva Switzerland this April by the so-called UN Human Rights Council, chaired by that paragon of human rights Libya and with Iran and Cuba occupying the vice-chairs.

The original rationale for the US participating in this was to attempt to 'alter' the final draft, an exercise in futility since the whole purpose of Durban II was to reaffirm Durban I, a foul anti-Semitic orgy so blatant that even the EU walked out on it.

As I revealed, the US did nothing to alter the text and in fact helped to legitimize Durban II by its very presence.

Subsequently, the Obama Administration decided to reassure the gullible Jews who voted for them by officially announcing that America was pulling out of the conference. In fact as Anne Bayefsky at Eye on the UN reveals, they did nothing of the kind...and used a particularly cynical method of doing so:

Barack Obama just added double-dealing to his foreign policy repertoire. On Friday, administration officials led many Jewish leaders to believe that it had decided to boycott the United Nation's "anti-racism" conference known as Durban II. At the same time, however, human rights organizations were being led to believe that the administration was not pulling out and was looking for a way to "re-engage." {...}

After sowing confusion over the phone lines, the State Department chose late Friday night to put the real deal in print. Their release reads: "the current text of the draft outcome document is not salvageable," and "the United States will not ... participate in a conference based on this text," but we will "re-engage if a document that meets [our] criteria becomes the basis for deliberations." A new version must be: "shorter," "not reaffirm in toto the flawed 2001 Durban Declaration," "not single out any one country or conflict," and "not embrace the troubling concept of "defamation of religion."

And by the way, it continued, the U.S. will "participate" for the first time in the U.N. Human Rights Council.

All of this leaves the American people not knowing whether they're coming or going.

It does open a window, however, into Obama's gerrymandering. On one phone line with Assistant Secretary of State Karen Stewart were Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, the American Civil Liberties Union, the U.N. Foundation, the UNA-USA Association and the Arab American Institute, among others. On the other line with National Security Council member Samantha Power were Jewish organizations. The dangerous message was that an Arab advocacy group does human rights, while Jewish organizations do Jews.{..}

Some Europeans and Australia had been teetering on the edge of following Canada and Israel in boycotting the conference. But they were waiting for Obama to walk with them. Rather than encouraging these like-minded states, America's mixed message has sent human rights organizations and states scurrying. They are looking to inject some creative ambiguity into "not reaffirming in toto"--or as Stewart put it, "not unequivocally reaffirming"--the Durban Declaration. Instead of leadership and clarity of convictions, the U.S. has started a race to the bottom of the diplomatic barrel.

The prospect irritated Human Rights Watch, the American U.N. Association and the U.N. Foundation, which all let Stewart know they would have preferred to cut Israel loose now as a fair cost of engagement. Peggy Hicks from HRW complained that insisting on "no reference to a single country or conflict is very problematic and destructive to the Durban Review process." Susan Myers of the U.N. Foundation worried that the move "boxed in the administration" and "undercut the ability of the U.S. to re-engage."

In fact, Obama's four deal-breakers do not include many other troubling provisions still on Durban II's negotiating table. These include: questioning the veracity of the Holocaust, a variety of attacks on freedom of expression in addition to "defamation of religion," and incendiary claims of "Islamophobia"--the general allegation of a racist Western plot to discriminate against all Muslims.

The administration's decision to slip in the Human Rights Council as a consolation prize for Durban enthusiasts is an attempt to downplay a major move. State Department officials intimated that they intend not only to observe but to run for a seat--subject to the "likelihood of successful elections." Council members and human rights gurus, like China, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, are sure to welcome the instant legitimacy provided by U.S. participation. The Council--controlled by the Organization of the Islamic Conference--has adopted more condemnations of Israel than all other 191 U.N. states combined, while terminating human rights investigations on the likes of Iran, Cuba and Belarus. Obama's move denies the opportunity to leverage the prospect of American membership to insist on reform.

As if they were actually going to 'reform'...

It should be obvious by this time what President Obama has in store. He plans to join the Muslim bloc and some members of the EU in deligitimizing and isolating Israel....a major step towards attempting to destroy it.

I hope every one of the naive and silly Jews who voted for Obama understand this. Nor should they be under any illusions that the consequences will only be limited to Israel. They'll have to live with the knowledge of what they cheerfully helped elect for a long time...and in a very personal way.

They can't say they weren't warned.

Stimulusol XR- The New Wonder Drug For Dealing With `Stimulus' Side Effects

Feeling sluggish, anxious and depressed because of the Obama 'stimulus?' This'll fix you right up...

SecDef Gates tells Head Of US Joint Chiefs Of Staff To Shut Up About Iran's Nukes

An interesting day in DC...

It started off with Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, telling CNN on its “State of the Union” program that he's certain Iran has enough nuclear material to make a bomb..which just by coincidence concurs with a recent UN report:

Iran probably already has enough material necessary to make a nuclear weapon, US Joint Chiefs of Staff Adm. Mike Mullen said on Sunday.

"We think they do, quite frankly," Mullen told CNN regarding the nuclear material amassed by Teheran thus far. "Iran having a nuclear weapon, I believe, for a long time, is a very, very bad outcome for the region and for the world."

Mullen issued that assessment after the world's nuclear watchdog said last week that it was wrong in earlier reports and now has evidence that Iran has enough enriched uranium to make a nuclear weapon.

So I guess that means that the ridiculous NIE report on Iran last year that claimed they'd curtailed their nuclear program was just the bolshoi I and many others said it was.

But not so fast..SecDef Robert Gates jumped in quickly to make the save:

Iran is not close to having a nuclear weapon, which gives the United States and others time to try to persuade Tehran to abandon its suspected atomic arms program, U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said on Sunday.

"They're not close to a stockpile, they're not close to a weapon at this point, and so there is some time," Gates said on NBC television's "Meet The Press."

Gates' comments followed a televised interview with Adm. Mike Mullen, head of the U.S. military Joint Chiefs of Staff, who told CNN's "State of the Union" that he believed Iran has enough fissile material to make a nuclear bomb.

Nothing to see here, move along...and by the way Admiral, follow orders and keep your trap shut. You want to derail all of the hope n'change diplomacy we have going on here? Just because it hasn't worked for five years doesn't mean it won't, somehow..

The truth is, neither of these men, charged with protecting our country from harm have the least idea what the Iranians have or don't have. One almost gets the feeling that Gates, at least would rather not know...because then the Obama Administration have to act on it.

What we do know is that Iran has been in a state of war with us for thirty years; that they have violated the non-proliferation treaty with impunity; that they are a rogue nation state that sponsors Islamist terrorism, including the targeting of Americans; that they recently launched a satellite that proves they already have the ballistic missile capability to hit targets in Israel and Europe as well as threaten our oil supplies coming from the Persian Gulf; and that they have threatened to annihilate a US ally.

We went to war with Saddam Hussein's Iraq ( both times) and the Taliban in Afghanistan for far less.

You have to wonder what the plan is here.Does our government figure that the same formula of Mutually Assured Destruction will work with the fanatics in Iran? Or that Iran can be bought off? Or that they will resist the temptation to pass on a nuclear device to one of the Hezbollah cells here in America ? Perhaps over our porous southern border?

Or is it simply that we have an inexperienced hand in the White House who's not sure what he should be doing?
