UK ends use of `war on terror'

The British government has apparently joined many of America's Democrat congressmen in declaring `peace' by ending use of phrase 'war on terror'.

International Development Secretary Hilary Benn, a rising star of the governing Labour Party, said in a speech delivered at NYU's Center on International Cooperation that the expression `strengthens terrorists by making them feel part of a bigger struggle'.

“We do not use the phrase 'war on terror' because we can’t win by military means alone, and because this isn’t us against one organized enemy with a clear identity and a coherent set of objectives,” Benn said.

“It is the vast majority of the people in the world — of all nationalities and faiths — against a small number of loose, shifting and disparate groups who have relatively little in common apart from their identification with others who share their distorted view of the world and their idea of being part of something bigger.”

Would that something bigger be...jihad, perhaps?

I wonder, Minister..would those `small number of loose, shifting and disparate groups' include the fascist theocracy in Iran,Syria, the Saudis who spend billions exporting jihad all over the world, Hezbollah, Hamas, or the 60% of your own Muslim population who've said they favor sharia and Muslim rule of Britain?

It's an even bet as to who is more clueless - President Bush for coming up with the silly, turgid phrase in the first place to confuse people about whom we're at war with or appeasement minded tools like this minister who take advantage of Bush's silliness to deny the global and well organized nature of our enemies and the threat to our freedom.

Just a few bad apples, a law enforcement problem, nothing to see here - right, Minister? How 9/10 of you!

Contrary to what Mr. Benn and people like him would like to believe, this is very much a war against an enemy with a clear identity and concrete objectives. it is a war on jihad and Islamic fascism. It is global in nature and involves not only groups of highly organized Islamic terrorists but the nation states that arm, harbor, finance and protect them and their ideology while using people like Hamas, Hezbollah, Jamaah Islamiyah and the Taliban as proxies and shock troops against the West.

And the longer people of Mr. Benn's ideology live in denial, the harder the ultimate struggle will be and the more lives it will cost.

reminds me of Secretary Albright's decision to do away with "Rogue States" and replace it with "States of concern."
