Veteran's Day...

Remember today that freedom isn't free. And the price - sometimes the ultimate price-is paid by those willing to pick up the gun and defend it.

If you run into a vet today, thank a moment to let them now how much you appreciate what they've given us.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 (sc, the 1st Armistice Day). 20 million soldier & civilian deaths in the 1914-1918 war. Then, a flu epidemic killed even more. No wonder everyone went crazy in the Golden Twenties or Roaring Twenties. By the way, I've noticed that people, particularly journalists on TV, throughout the world still wear the Red Poppy (ie, the Flanders Poppy,) on the lapels of their shirts & blouses for at least the 1st 11 days of November. I haven't noticed it in the US for some time. Has this practice been abandoned here entirely, or have I just missed it through not watching a lot of TV?
