Another Obama Whopper: "Chrysler has repaid every dime and more of what it owes American taxpayers"

A sign of President Obama's contempt for his fellow citizens is the way he repeatedly puts out lies that are so ridiculously transparent.

The president traveled to Ohio last week to try and shore up his flagging support in the Buckeye State and made a huge deal out of the 'success story' of the government bailout and gifting to the unions of GM and Chrysler.

The president's talking point on Chrysler was this:

“Chrysler has repaid every dime and more of what it owes American taxpayers for their support during my presidency — and it repaid that money six years ahead of schedule. And this week, we reached a deal to sell our remaining stake. That means soon, Chrysler will be 100 percent in private hands.”

Gleen Kessler over at the WAPO's Fact Checker blog tears this one apart:

Wow, “every dime and more” sounds like such a bargain. Not only did Chrysler pay back the loan, with interest — but the company paid back even more than they owed. Isn’t America great or what?

Not so fast. The president snuck in the weasel words “during my presidency” in his statement. What does that mean?

According to the White House, Obama is counting only the $8.5 billion loan that he made to Chrysler, not the $4 billion that President George W. Bush extended in his last month in office. However, Obama was not a disinterested observer at the time. According to The Washington Post article on the Bush loan, the incoming president called Bush’s action a “necessary step . . . to help avoid a collapse of our auto industry that would have had devastating consequences for our economy and our workers.”

Under the administration’s math, the U.S. government will receive $11.2 billion back from Chrysler, far more than the $8.5 billion Obama extended.

Through this sleight-of-hand accounting, the White House can conveniently ignore Bush’s loan, but even the Treasury Department admits that U.S. taxpayers will not recoup about $1.3 billion of the entire $12.5 billion investment when all is said and done.

The White House justifies not counting the Bush money because, it says, that money was completely spent when Obama was making a tough political decision on whether to extend another loan. In other words, a decision to do nothing at the time would have resulted in the immediate loss of the $4 billion that Bush had extended.

This is chicanery. Under the president’s math, Chrysler paid back 100 percent of Obama’s loan and less than 70 percent of Bush’s loan. A more honest presentation would combine the two figures to say U.S. taxpayers got back 90 percent of what they invested. In fact, that is how the Treasury and other administration officials frequently portray it; it is just when Obama speaks that the numbers get so squishy.

The White House justifies saying that Chrysler will be in 100 percent “in private hands” because there will no longer be government ownership once Fiat completes its purchase of the U.S. stake. For the record, the United Auto Workers will own 46 percent of the company.

And this is just Chrysler. I've already covered the relevant details on GM previously. The gifting of the company to the UAW, the disenfranchisement of private equity holders, the dumping of stock at the US taxpayer's expense that would land a private company in jail, that $45.4 billion dollar tax credit against future profits at the American taxpayer's expense, the entire deal for both companies was structured for one purpose and one purpose only.

And that purpose had nothing to do with recouping the bail out money for the American taxpayer.

No, the real winners by far were the coffers of the United Auto Workers...and ultimately, the Democrats at election time, who will grab their share of the swag in campaign contributions.

Because that's where a big chunk of any profits coming from the UAW's equity in Government Motors will go, recycled straight into the Democrat party and President Obama as political donations.

It's the same sort of scam the Democrats have run with the public employee unions for years, getting the taxpayers regardless of political affiliation to subsidize the Democrats political efforts while the Democrats throw ever bigger contracts at the unions in exchange for ever bigger kickbacks.

It's the old Tammany Hall model, and it never changes.

Yale Caves In To Muslims On Anti-Semitism Study

http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSJ_LYldiQzF9D5zZIn_pPGsjTUYns7vkpf35zIXYn47PuNhNxU&t=1

Last week, Yale University decided to kill the Yale Initiative for the Interdisciplinary Study of Antisemitism, (YIISA) a unique research project on anti-Semitism in the US, and the only one of its kind in America. The project will shut down next month.

YIISA brought to the campus almost every notable scholar studying contemporary Jew-hatred. The collection of presenters gathered at the August 2010 conference had credentials that were impressive even by Yale’s standards, and the project was also well-funded.

So why was it shut down? According to a statement by the university's top PR officer, Director of Strategic Communications Charles Hogen, there was an official review by an unidentified and anonymous faculty committee that determined that YIISA had failed to "serve the research and teaching interests of some significant group of Yale faculty and . . . be sustained by the creative energy of a critical mass of Yale faculty."

Hogen wrote this even though Yale's Deputy Provost Frances Rosenbluth lauded the YIISA and said it was "guided by an outstanding group of scholars from all over the university representing many different disciplines," including professors of history, sociology, comparative languages, psychiatry, economics and political science. So apparently there was and is a significant group of Yale's faculty interested studying and examining this. It's also worth noting that Yale when asked was unable to name any other research center it had closed. Nor can YIISA appeal the university's decision.

The reality? The program actually touched the third rail of academia, particularly at places like Yale. At its inaugural conference last year, it had speakers and workshops who addressed in depth one of the chief sources of anti-Semitism...Muslim and Palestinian Jew hatred.

Yale President Richard Levin apparently got an earful from a number of sources about this. Yale is the recipient of some major baksheesh from the Muslim world - a $20 million endowment gift from Saudi Prince Alwaleed, a major $360 million gift back in 2002 from then Saudi Crown Prince and now Saudi King Abdullah , and large gifts of undisclosed amounts from the UAE's notorious ruling Maktoum family.

This, if you're interested, is why the Yale University Press went through the ludicrous exercise of publishing a scholarly book on the Mohammed Cartoons..without the images themselves included!

President Levin also heard from the American PLO "Ambassador" Maen Rashid Areikat, who wrote "It's shocking that a respected institution like Yale would give a platform to these right-wing extremists and their odious views...I urge you to publicly dissociate yourself and Yale University from the anti-Arab extremism and hate-mongering that were on display during this conference."

And from a prominent Muslim student leader, one Yaman Salahi, who accused the president and the university of 'Islamophobia' and called the conference racist.

Of course, none of these people had any problem with Yale hosting Islamist professor Tariq Ramadan or with a lecturer at Yale's new Jackson Center for Global Affairs taking her class to visit Iranian Holocaust denier Mahmoud Ahmadinjad in New York.

What Yale is essentially doing is reflecting its own dhimmitude and heeding its greed for Muslim petro-dollars while ridding itself of an embarrassing reflection of what comes with it.

They should at least have the common decency to take the Hebrew lettering of their university crest. Lux et veritas ( "Light and Truth") indeed.

Cooked Weiner - Finally Admits Posting Lewd Photos To Twitter

Faced with total exposure, Congressman Anthony Weiner finally admitted that yes, that was his cocktail frank straining his shorts that was posted via twitter, and to making 'terrible mistakes.'

Addressing the media at the Sheraton Hotel in Midtown Manhattan, Weiner made the following statement: “Last Friday night I tweeted a photograph of myself that I intended to send as direct message as part of a joke to a woman in Seattle. Once I realized I posted it to Twitter, I panicked, I took it down and said that I had been hacked. I then continued with that story to stick to that story which was a hugely regrettable mistake.”

“I am so sorry to have disrupted her life in this way. To be clear, the picture was of me and I sent it. I am deeply sorry for the pain this has caused my wife Huma and our family, and my constituents, my friends, supporters and staff,” Weiner said.

In things like this, it's always the attempted coverup that does more damage than the act itself. Although I notice he's still trying to deflect criticism by referring to it as 'a joke'. It wasn't, especially since it appears it was more than a one time lapse, and with more than one woman . And it turns out Andrew Breitbart was right all along, wasn't he?

I actually feel sorry for Weiner, just a little, and I don't see any call for gloating. We've all screwed up at one time or another, and he just got married to Huma Abedin, a very attractive longtime personal aide of Hillary Clinton's less than a year ago. That's not going to be a very pleasant situation for either of them at home, and a tough one to work through. She has to be thinking 'Wasn't I enough?'

Who is Huma Abedin dating?

On the other hand, they have the Clintons to help advise them...maybe I shouldn't have said that.

At any rate, I wish Congressman and Mrs. Weiner the best of luck in getting through a tough time.

Experts Back Sarah Palin's Historical Account Of Paul Revere

Yes, as I pointed out earlier, she was right again..you betcha!

Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, “Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, ‘Look, there is a mobilization going on that you’ll be confronting,’ and the British are aware as they’re marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing — she was right about that — and warning shots being fired. That’s accurate.”

Patrick Leehey of the Paul Revere House said Revere was probably bluffing his British captors, but reluctantly conceded that it could be construed as Revere warning the British.

“I suppose you could say that,” Leehey said

Even blogpal Professor Bill Jacobsen weighed in, with probably the most intelligent comment:

Cornell law professor William Jacobson, who asserted last week that Palin was correct, linking to Revere quotes on his conservative blog Legalinsurrection.com, said Palin’s critics are the ones in need of a history lesson. “It seems to be a historical fact that this happened,” he said. “A lot of the criticism is unfair and made by people who are themselves ignorant of history.”

Ignorant of it...or whom have an agenda is distorting it.

The Miracle Of D-Day, 67 Years Later

Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force! You are about to embark upon a great crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hopes and prayers of liberty loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers in arms on other fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is well trained, well equipped and battle hardened, he will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man to man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our home fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory!

Good Luck! And let us all beseech the blessings of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

~ Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower

The above is the statement is the one General Eisenhower released to the allied forces under his command just before the Normandy Invasion that started the liberation of Europe from the Nazis. Not so well known is that General Eisenhower also had another statement in readiness announcing the failure of the invasion and accepting full responsibility for what would have been a debacle.

When you read about Operation Overlord in Cornelius Ryan's "The Longest Day" or in Eisenhower's own remarkable book Crusade In Europe, it's easy to see why General Eisenhower was not unprepared for its possible failure. The weather was uncertain, there were indications that the enemy had found out the details of the plans for the invasion, and the sheer logistics of getting that many men and the supplies they would need landed on those hostile shores is amazing to read about even today. There were plenty of General Eisenhower's advisers who advised him not to attempt it, and it took considerable courage to go ahead anyway.

My uncle was one of the brave men who landed on Omaha beach that day. He never spoke about it much, except, in characteristic fashion, to make a joke about all the stuff he was supposedly carrying.. I can only imagine what it was like to see the gates on that LST drop and have to run through the choppy waves to the beach, straight into the face of enemy fire every inch of the way.

The invasion might have failed if not for a superb bit of disinformation. General George Patton was America's best combat commander, fresh from a superb record of victories in North Africa and Sicily. However, Patton was also in the political doghouse over an incident involving the slapping of a soldier he felt was malingering.

General Patton was removed from command of the Seventh Army in Italy and ordered to London, partly to get him out of the spolight and let the furor die down and partly because allied intelligence had confirmed that the Germans were convinced that Patton was going to be the commander of the allied attempt to invade France, which they also thought was certain to be directed at Calais, the closest point between England and France.

Instead, Eisenhower put General Omar Bradley in command and used Patton as a decoy, creating message traffic back and forth to an entire fictitious army group and feeding the Germans fake intel on a supposed landing straight across the Strait of Dover to Calais. Because of that, German General Erwin Rommel was given only three Panzer units for the Normandy area while the rest were designated as being "in reserve" and held back in locations inland where they could be shunted over to Calais and deployed on Hitler's direct orders. In fact, most of them ended up staying right where they were as Hitler declined to give the orders to move them.

Out of the three Panzer groups Rommel had, only one was placed near the actual site of the Normandy landing. The other two were deployed near Calais and stayed right where they were for two weeks after the invasion, because the Nazis were still convinced that Patton was going to lead the main invasion force in an assault on Calais. By the time the Germans realized they'd been had, it was too late and the Allies had a firm beachhead.

One of the most amazing exploits in a day of amazing exploits has to be the scaling of the cliffs at the Pointe Du Hoc by Army Rangers, and I have a little story to tell about that...my apologies to those of you whom are regular members of Joshua's Army whom have heard it before.

About fifteen or so years ago, a few days after another June 6th, I ran into a grizzled old man and his friend at the bar of a local country club, where I was waiting for a lunch companion to show up. We got to chatting, the way people do in bars, and when a brief item flashed across the screen on the bar TV about D-Day, the man mentioned that his friend had been one of the Army Rangers who scaled the sheer cliffs of the Pointe Du Hoc under withering enemy fire, taking out the artillery, machine guns and pill boxes at the top of the cliffs. It cost these incredibly brave men a casualty rate of about 60%, and I'm still amazed it was done at all.

Fortunately, my lunch date was late and the elderly warrior felt like talking, so I got to hear a first hand account from him what that had been like, using rope ladders and daggers and pulling themselves upwards while the Germans fired down at them.

As he spoke, a strange thing happened. The years seemed to drop away from him somehow and I could almost see the young soldier who pulled himself up the cliffs of the Pointe Du Hoc and kept going until he reached the top.No histrionics, no hyperbole, just a matter of fact account of a tough day's work.

I read somewhere that only about one in ten the 16 million vets who served in WWII are still with us, and chances are the man I spoke to that day isn't among them. But I feel privileged that I got a chance to spend a few minutes with him, hear what he had to say and buy him a drink or two. I've never forgotten it.

The men who invaded Normandy beat the odds and gave us quite a gift.It is our task to honor them and make the use of it they intended.

Sarah Palin's So called Paul Revere 'Gaffe' - The Left Beclowns Itself Again

OHMYGOODNESS! Sarah Palin made another gaffe! And no,it wasn't referring to the 57 US States, or claiming the US is the largest Muslim nation in the world,or mispronouncing corpsman as 'corpse man.' And it wasn't even something like quadrupling the US deficit, believing that printing up bogus money to 'buy up' US debt in order to keep on spending ( AKA 'quantitative easing') or that putting a de facto ban on oil drilling with high unemployment and record gas prices were brilliant ideas.

Those bits of stupidity belong to someone else entirely.

No, Governor Palin's humungous error was to phrase things a bit inelegantly about Paul Revere's famous ride. Here's what she said, verbatim:

“He warned, uh, the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms uh by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free and we were going to be armed.”

Needless to say, George Soros' paid internet mercenaries were all over this one, just like they were all over Governor Palin's remarks encouraging Tea Party activists not to relax and that they can't 'party like it's 1773 yet'.

But whaddya know? She turned out to be essentially right again. I actually remember reading about this historical factoid, but a hat tip to Conservatives4Palin for saving me the trouble of digging it up. It turns out Paul Revere did warn the British they were headed for trouble if they thought they were going to take the colonists unawares and seize their arms...exactly what Governor Palin said.

From a letter by Paul Revere himself, in a 1789 letter maintained by the Massachusetts Historical Society:

I observed a Wood at a Small distance, & made for that. When I got there, out Started Six officers, on Horse back,and orderd me to dismount;-one of them, who appeared to have the command, examined me, where I came from,& what my Name Was? I told him. it was Revere, he asked if it was Paul? I told him yes He asked me if I was an express? {ed. note - a courier}

I answered in the afirmative. He demanded what time I left Boston? I told him; and aded, that their troops had catched aground in passing the River, and that There would be five hundred Americans there in a short time, for I had alarmed the Country all the way up. He imediately rode towards those who stoppd us, when all five of them came down upon a full gallop; one of them, whom I afterwards found to be Major Mitchel, of the 5th Regiment, Clapped his pistol to my head, called me by name, & told me he was going to ask me some questions, & if I did not give him true answers, he would blow my brains out. He then asked me similar questions to those above. He then orderd me to mount my Horse, after searching me for arms.He then orderd them to advance, & to lead me in front.

When we got to the Road, they turned down towards Lexington. When we had got about one Mile, the Major Rode up to the officer that was leading me, & told him to give me to the Sergeant. As soon as he took me, the Major orderd him, if I attempted to run, or any body insulted them, to blow my brains out. We rode till we got near Lexington Meeting-house, when the Militia {ed.note, the Americans} fired a Voley of Guns, which appeared to alarm them very much.

Let's parse this a bit, shall we? Revere admits here that he was stopped by the British, that they interrogated him at gunpoint and that he warned the British that he had already roused the countryside and that the American militia had gathered and would be waiting for them if they tried to take away the American's arms..which was the entire British objective in marching on Lexington and Concord.

Score yet another one for Governor Palin.

Frankly even if she had been wrong,( which she wasn't) I feel a lot more comfortable with someone who makes an honest error when it comes to the minutiae of American history than someone who apparently doesn't understand even basic economics, has no clue how to act with our allies, and has spent the country into a huge hole out of sheer cluelessness and incompetency.

Satirical, yes, but it does make you stop and think, doesn't it?

LATMA's Latest - SOTA Israeli Satire!

A few crib notes, so you get the jokes with local references:

The joke about homo palestinus in the 'Palestinian History Museum' skit is a swipe at Yasser Arafat's bisexuality..and yes, it's pretty certain he died of AIDS.

General Ashkenazi is the ex-IDF Chief Of Staff...who's lately been making a lot of political noise about joining Kadima.

The best joke of course IMO is at the every end, and concerns the European E.Coli outbreak in cucumbers....

Palin: "The GOP Needs To Get It's Stuff Together To Stop The Rise Of A Third Party"

Prescient and spot on as usual, Governor Sarah Palin is simply telling it like it is - the Republicans have no concerted message so far, have been far to accommodating to President Obama's agenda and if they're not careful are at high risk of not just disenchanting their base, but losing it forever.

The latest Gallup says that 52% of Republicans think a third party is necessary, by the way.

As the person who was most responsible ( along with Senator Jim DeMint) for keeping the Tea Party inside the GOP tent and for the success the party had in the 2010 midterms, Governor Palin knows of what she speaks.

For the record, the last thing I personally want to see is a split in the Republican Party, not because I care that much about the GOP as an institution but simply because political infrastructures take time to build up, and a three party race along those lines would give Obama and the Democrats an advantage in 2012 that could lead to his serving a second term. And that would be disasterous for the country, as Governor Palin points out.

But I see no advantage either in maintaining a Ruling Class style GOP establishment that is simply going to be Democrat-lite.

The Republicans need to look at whom they are and the values the GOP is supposed to stand for and act accordingly. Otherwise, a third party is exactly what we'll see.

Some Proof That S.F.’s Anti-Circumcision Movement Is Anti-Semitic

As you all likely know by now, city ordinances are now on the ballot in San Francisco and in Santa Monica to ban ritual circumcision, AKA Brit Millah in those cities. This is a rite that goes back to G-d's Covenant With Abraham.

Above is a sample of the campaign literature that the anti-Circumcision movement is circulating, courtesy of the San Francisco based Zombie. Just in case you thought this wasn't entirely directed at Jews.

Needless to say, there will likely be no similar 'toons of Muslim imams performing circumcision, or evil Muslims giving clitorectomies to young females. For one thing, among Muslims it's usually done in a boy's teens, and for another, the sort of craven scum running this understand that they'd be risking their own necks.

Speaking of which, the man running these modern Der Stürmer type graphics showing the blond Aryan master race fighting the Evil Jews is on Matthew Hess, the president of MGM Billboards, a San Diego, California USA based group that describes itself as "working to enact legislation that would protect boys from forced circumcision.”

The 'I'm not anti-Jewish, just anti-Zionist' crowd has always been in evidence at the Bay Area's Leftist protests. A lot of the Left got on this particular train a long time ago, so none of this should be any surprise. It will be interesting to see how Jews on the Left deal with this, since it can't be disguised as “anti-Israel” anymore.

Pope Benedict Meets With Abbas, Calls For A 'Palestinian' State

You'd think that given how the PLO treats Christians in the areas it controls, let alone Hamas, Pope Benedict would get a clue.

But here's this Pope standing next to Arafat's Holocaust denying number two in Rome, the man who was Yasser Arafat's assistant in presiding over the decimation of the once majority Christian town of Bethlehem and endorsing more of the same.

Pope Benedict may not have consciously decided to side with the oppressors against the oppressed, but he has decided to accomodate, appease them and not confront them -which amounts to the same thing. That kind of moral delinquency is exactly how Pius XII dealt with the Nazis.

Abbas was a part of the PLO whose thugs invaded the Church of the Nativity and wrecked it, using Bibles for toilet paper and threatening the monks. These are the same people who desecrated and attempted to destroy the tomb of Joshua, Joseph's tomb, Rachel's Tomb and the Cave Of The Patriarchs, all places that are revered in the Christian tradition as well as the Jewish one.

But defending the Church and it's traditions apparently means nothing to this Pope next to appeasing Islam.

I'm surprised the Pope didn't wear his Keffiyah.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPjCXDGRuj4O5bGAzhl6RquboekFIoleMZBQRAY4DiHcPzHHAVp5zNHYdLC5bS4XzwwY7H0r8y7FoYjXkjw2LrPfhf45fuyakWyEaarF8iAvQq_-LbWbRXtPtqCskilUpFvbev/s400/pope+scarf.jpg

Pope Benedict wasn't always like that. In the beginning of his term, he clearly identified the fate of the Church with that of the Jews and even challenged Islamism in a famous speech at the University of Regensburg that directly challenged radical Islam and spoke out forcefully against jihad and `fanaticism in religion'.

The reaction to that speech - the firebombing of churches, threats to church property like the the church of the Holy Sepulcher still in lands under Muslim control, death threats towards the Pope himself and the actual murder of several priests and nuns - frightened him into dhimmitude and cowardice.

This Pope's alignment with Islam against the Jews and Israel commenced forthwith.

The saddest part of all is that I know that Cardinal Ratzinger was a man of brilliance, courage and intellect before he donned the Papal robes. But now, when the Church needs a strong warrior, they've received a weak reed. A man of Pope Benedict's history and essential decency understands only too well the choice he's made and its consequences...and I pity him.

China Bails Out Of Short term US Treasuries

In another sign that foreign appetite for buying up US debt is coming to a halt, China has now divested itself of 97% of its holdings in short term US securities.

The Chinese went from a peak of $210.4 billion in May 2009 to $5.69 billion in March 2011, the most recent month reported by the U.S. Treasury.

Short term T-bills are those that mature in one year or less.

The Chinese still hold a lot of long term treasuries, but they've been decreasing their holding incrementally over the past five months from November through March. As of March 2011, overall Chinese holdings of U.S. debt had decreased to 1.1449 trillion.

What does all this mean? First the Obama Administration's Quantitative Easing was always nonsense, and Sarah Palin was right on the money when she said so, well before the mainstream caught up with her.Second, higher interest rates are on the way, because President Obama and the boyz still have to sell our debt to fund all the wonderful spending he's done ..which of course means that debt servicing will cost still more as we attempt to pay down the debt and making fixing the whole mess he and his cohorts have gotten us into much more difficult to fix.

Thanks you, Dear Leader!

The Council Has Spoken!! Watcher's Council Contest Results...

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week, carved eternally in the records of cyberspace.

We had a tie in the Council this week, between The Razor's Occam's Razor Unnecessary To Cut Short Weiner and the Political Commentator's tribute, A Memorial Day story of unimaginable inspiration!

Accordingly, I had to break the tie, and as always, it wasn't easy.

This week's winner, The Political Commentator , chose to honor Memorial Day by relating the amazing story of his uncle, a Medal of Honor winner in his fine piece, A Memorial Day story of unimaginable inspiration! ..and indeed it is. Here's a slice:

Since job prospects for high school graduates in rural Pennsylvania in 1935 were poor, Mitch walked 200 miles to the nearest Marine Corp recruiting station and signed up. After basic training, he spent five years rotating between duty in China and the Philippines. When WWII broke out, he was a seasoned sergeant in charge of a machine gun platoon.

That put him on the beach in August, 1942, when the First Marine Division landed at Guadalcanal. When the Japanese counterattacked, Mitch was put in charge of four Browning 30 caliber water cooled machine guns and 36 men, dug in at trenches on a ridge above Henderson Field. The Japanese launched massive waves of suicide attackers all night long, frequently breaking through the lines and engaging in fierce hand-to-hand combat.

If the position fell, the flank would have been broken, leading to a loss of the airfield, and possibly the entire island. After the first hour, all of Mitch’s men were either dead or severely wounded. So Mitch fired one gun until it was empty, then scurried over to the next, and then the next. In between waves, he ran back and reloaded all the guns.

When the Japanese launched their final assault, and then retreated, he picked up a 40 pound gun and ran down the hill after them, firing all the way, and burning all the skin off his left forearm where he cradled it. Mitch’s commanding officer, Col. Herman H. Hanneken, heard the guns firing all night from the field. He was shocked when he visited the position the next morning, finding Mitch alone in front of a twisted sea of 1,000 Japanese bodies.

It's fitting that our non-Council category winner, WarChick.Com's Twice In One Day, submitted by Rhymes with Right also dealt with a story of heroism, this time in the Korean War, the one they call The Forgotten One. WarChick tells a fascinating tale of a man to whom riches, fame and his own personal safety meant less than duty, country and what he felt was his responsibility. He was the living embodiment of John 15:13 "Greater love no man has than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" and WarChick uses this man's story to tell us a great deal about what she sees as the nature of war itself. Do read it.

Ethics Challenged Leftists Never Have To Say They're Sorry ; Ousted NPR Exec Goes To NBC News

http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/OB-MY162_0309vs_G_20110309093200.jpg

You'll remember Vivian Schiller, the former NPR the former National Public Radio president and CEO who 'resigned' over the fallout from the Juan Williams firing and an incident where two of her top fund raisers attended a lunch meeting with two conservative activists who posed as open members of a Muslim Brotherhood front group and baited the sting with an offer of a $5 million donation...that NPR essentially offered to launder for them.

Yes, that was the one where Schiller's troops were caught on camera harshly disparaging Christians, Tea Party members and Republicans and nodding agreement at remarks about Jews running the media and giggled happily when one of the faux Muslim Brotherhood members referred to NPR as 'National Palestinian Radio.'

Yes, that one.

Well guess what, she's resurfaced, and is now back in the biz, working at NBC News in the newly created position of Chief Digital Officer.

Like I said, being an ethics challenged Lefty means never having to say you're sorry...because you fellow Leftys in the dinosaur media will always have your back and help you keep your nose in the trough.

Why I'm Boycotting Scotch

This is a tough one, but I feel it's something that needs doing. At least when it comes to certain brands.

The West Dunbartonshire Council in Scotland, in a fit of absolute bigotry voted unanimously to boycott products made in Israel. In fact, the resolution is up on their website.

It reads:

‘This Council deplores the loss of life in Palestine which now numbers well over 1,000. This Council also recognises the disproportionate force used by the IDF in Palestine and agrees to boycott all Israeli goods as a consequence. Officers should immediately cease the purchase of any goods we currently source, which were made or grown in Israel. Officers should also ensure we procure no new goods or produce from Israel until this boycott is formally lifted by WDC.’
No mention of course, of the 'disproportionate force' involved in using civilians as human shields, putting missile site in schools, mosques and hospitals, or shooting an anti-tank rocket at a school bus.

Now, West Dunbartonshire is also the site of some famous distilleries that manufacture some of my favorite brands...and in view of what I consider to be a stand with Hamas and a racist boycott of the only Jewish State on a par with the old Nazi slogan 'Kauft nicht bei Juden'('Don't buy from Jews'), I've decided that the fine products of the following distilleries are going to do without my patronage in the future:

Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd. info@morrisonbowmore.co.uk
Distillers of: Auchintoshan, Bowmore, Glen Garioch, McClelland’s

Loch Lomond Distillery Co. Ltd mail@lochlomonddistillery.com
Distillers of Loch Lomond, Scots Earl, Distillery Select, Glen Scotia, Littlemill, Croftengea, Craigslodge, Inchmurrin, Glen Douglas, Inchfad

Chivas Brothers media.relations@pernod-ricard.com
Distillers of Ballantine’s, Chivas, Royal Salute, Clan Campbell, Something Special, Passport, 100 Pipers, Imperial, Long John Aberlour, The Glenlivet, Glendronach, Strathisla, Longmorn, Scapa, Tormore, Jameson, Paddy, Powers, Walker Special Old, Wisers

This is the best list I have of the addresses of distiller's in the West Dunbartonshire Council region. Please let me know if I missed any inth ecomments section and I'll add them to the list.

Below is my letter to Morrison Bowmore Distillers, and similar ones went out to the other two, focusing on some other brands I've enjoyed:

Dear Sirs;
I've long been a fan of your fine single malt, Auchintoshan. But I'm afraid I won't be drinking it in the future, or any other Scotch made in the West Dunbartonshire area.

Recently, the West Dunbartonshire Council voted unanimously to boycott Israeli products. I saw this on their own website, and the unfortunate nonsense they're spouting makes no mention of the aggression visited against Israel by the Palestinians they're so enamored of..the rockets fired against Israel's civilians, the murder of the entire Fogel family including a 3 month old baby, the naming of streets and public squares after people who murder civilians, the making an honorary citizen out of a child murderer. It's quite obvious the Council could care less.

That's fine, they have the right to voice their opinion and stand with whom they wish, but so do I. And I cannot just ignore their choice to stand with evil and indecency. The symbol of Scotland is a thistle and it's motto, as I recall is 'No one hurts me unharmed'. I've always admired that, and I feel the same way.

So I'm afraid Auchintoshan and I are going to become strangers, along with a few other brands of Scotch I've long enjoyed. I've heard some of the Japanese brands have wonderfully improved their quality, and there are, after all other Scotches produced in other parts of Scotland. And as I'm sure you already know, I'm not going to be alone in that, as this becomes more widely known and more publicized via the Internet. In fact, I'll be publicizing it myself on my own website.

I'm afraid I simply don't have a choice in the matter, as someone who's interested in simple justice.

Regards,
Rob Miller, United States

I urge you to take a stand on this one, publicize this and write them yourselves.

New Ad Hits Obama Hard On Israel

The Emergency Committee on Israel has a brand new ad that hits President Obama is a particularly telling way - by focusing on the statements of pro-Israel Democrats.Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, House Majority Whip Steny Hoyer and Senator Bob Casey Jr. all have starring roles, juxtaposed with a picture of President Obama happily hunkered down with Mahmoud Abbas.

The point is pretty obvious..Israel gets strong support from both sides of the aisle, and it's the president who's out of the mainstream.

ECI board member Bill Kristol said, “We’re the Emergency Committee for Israel. So it’s appropriate for us to thank friends of Israel for stepping up for the Jewish state at this time of testing — even when a president of their own party is unfortunately stepping away.”

Heh!

The ad is being shown on cable in New York and Washington and will run on FOX News, CNBC, CNN and MSNBC.

What Does Peace Mean Anyway?

Peace is said to be a high priority, no matter whom you talk to.People crave it and pray for it, and rightly so.

This is a much more important issue, I think, than most of us realize, especially in these days when people use terms like 'The Long War' and 'the peace process' .Yet few of us, especially in the West actually stop to think of what we really mean by peace, and what you can't define clearly is frequently illusory.

The Bible provides one definition, with the prophet Isaiah talking of a time of peace so profound that men will not only transform the arms of battle into implements of peace but cease to study the arts and strategy of war.

That's obviously an unrealized ideal in the immediate future.

Islam is much more direct about the matter. Westerners are confused when Muslims say that Islam means peace (actually, it comes from the Arabic aslama, which means submission). To Muslims, who divide the world into dar Islam, the part of the world where Islam rules and the non-Muslim world, referred to as dar harb ( literally the house of war), peace is much simpler. It's a condition where the entire world is dar Islam, exactly what Mohammed ordered his followers to strive for right before his death in 632 CE, according to the Hadiths.

If some Muslims talk of peace when they actually mean a time of dar Islam, it's understandable that something gets lost in translation - sometimes deliberately so.

So, is peace then simply an absence of war and conflict? It ain't necessarily so.

After the signing of the Versailles Treaty that ended WWI in 1918, France's Commanding General Ferdinand Foch said in an amazingly prescient remark, "This is not a peace. It is an armistice for twenty years."

What Marshall Foch understood was that while Germany had been bled white and the home front was collapsing, the German Army had not been decisively defeated. He guessed that the German military establishment and their political allies would use that fact to inflame revanchist sentiment as a springboard to a new war as soon as possible, and realized that the Versailles Treaty would last only as long as the allies maintained military superiority over Germany and occupied a strategic part of the German homeland.

The first fifteen years of the armistice between the World Wars could be said to fit this definition of an absence of war and conflict, but beneath the surface the conflict seethed, and as Foch predicted, the German Army continued to claim it had been 'stabbed in the back by traitors at home', a refrain that was echoed by the Nazis, the Stahlhelm and other groups who favored abrogating the Versailles treaty. The army continued to enjoy prestige in Germany and became almost a state within a state, drilling and training men in secret in a de facto violation of Versailles.

When the political climate was right and Adolf Hitler and the Nazis came to power in 1933, the violations became even more blatant, German rearmament increased and three years later Hitler sent the army into the strategic Saar and the Rhineland and ended the allied occupation. Outright war came only a few short years after.

The Middle East is currently witnessing a similar example of the ending of an 'armistice' that arose from similar circumstances. In 1973, Egypt and Syria attacked Israel in a war of annihilation that was essentially a continuation of the Six Day War in 1967.

Unlike the 1967 war, Egypt and Syria caused considerable Israeli casualties and advanced before they were ultimately thrown back with heavy losses. Israel General Arik Sharon made military history by ignoring his orders and crossing the Suez Canal behind the Egyptians in a brilliant maneuver, trapping the main Egyptian Third Army in an iron ring.Rather than destroy the 3rd Army as a fighting force and go on to  a decisive victory, as Sharon advocated,Israeli PM Golda Meir and the Labor government in power at the time followed American and UN direction to seek a ceasefire and avoid an Arab 'humiliation'. General Sharon was ordered to release the Third Army almost intact back to Egyptian lines.

Meanwhile,on the Syrian front Israeli Brigadier General Rafael "Raful" Eitan (Z"l) led a division that stopped the Syrians at Nafekh, threw back the Syrian forces and advanced to within striking distance of Damascus.General Eitan became an IDF legend in that campaign when he rallied his exhausted troops by personally picking up a bazooka, taking out two Syrian tanks and turning the Syrian advance into a retreat

It's interesting to contrast the two results. In Syria, there was never any talk of peace with Israel, but there was comparatively little overt hostility either, except through proxies like Hezbollah. With the IDF only a short hop from Damascus, the Syrians have had ample motivation to avoid outright war with Israel ever since. That motivation would disappear,of course, if the Israelis ever returned the Golan to Syria.

In Egypt, there was a similar situation analogous in many ways to what occurred with Germany after WWI.Even though Egypt's forces were defeated, their armies were not defeated decisively,to the point that the Egyptian regime was able to propagandize to their own people that they had not lost the 1973 war at all, that they had in fact won.

In that context, the Camp David Accords, by which Egypt obtained the Sinai was seen as an accommodation and even a capitulation from Israel by Egyptians, and it had the additional benefit of removing Israeli forces from striking distance of the Suez Canal and Cairo. In war, after all, it is the victors who gain territory and concessions.

In consequence, what has occurred between Egypt and Israel was not peace but an armistice, as Marshall Foch would have put it.The two countries signed and kept a formal peace treaty (largely subsidized by US baksheesh to Egypt of over a billion dollars per year) but demonization of Israel and Jews never stopped in Egypt's mosques, schools and media. The Mubarak regime kept the arrangement, but was never unwilling to use the Egyptian hatred for Jews and Israel to its own advantage.

The US trained and equipped Egyptian Army has been rebuilt and has always performed its war games exercises from the standpoint of fighting Israel as its main foe on its Eastern borders, and indeed the Egyptian Army's weaponry and deployment makes no sense otherwise.

With the fall of the Mubarak regime, the key points of the armistice - diplomatic relations, trade and the demilitarization of the Sinai - have all been or are likely to be  suspended by Egypt as the country reverts to its overt hostility towards Israel, and if outright war is unlikely simply because Egypt cannot afford it financially or in terms of stability right now, it certainly will not be 'peace' and Egypt will almost certainly be siding with Israel's enemies Hamas and by extension Syria and Iran as the Muslim Brotherhood takes over more political power.

Let's examine, in contrast an instance of real and lasting peace, the one between the victorious Allies and Japan and Germany after WWII.

The allies made a point of insisting on an unconditional surrender in both cases, and refused several offers of an attractive armistice from the Nazis, who attempted to split the allies by offering a separate peace to the Western allies so that they could devote all of their efforts to throwing back the Soviets.

At the end of the war there was no question either among Japan and Germany's armed forces or their people that they had been decisively defeated. Both countries had been devastated, suffered severe shortages of food, housing, medical supplies and fuel and were forced to accede to military occupation in order to avoid being totally destroyed. The fascist ideology that had ruled both nations was discredited and destroyed, unlike what happened to Germany in WWI.

Both countries lost significant territory - the Germans lost Alsace-Lorraine to France and a huge swath of territory to Poland and the Japanese lost the Kuril Islands, Saipan and the oil rich and strategic territory of Sakhalin.

To put it in perhaps a more modern context, both countries suffered major real and concrete costs for launching and losing a war of aggression, both were forced to absorb and resettle a significant number of their nationals as refugees in their remaining territory and there was never any question at all of ephemera like 'land for peace.'

As a consequence, the populations of Germany and Japan both came to the realization that their respective countries had come perilously close to ceasing to exist, and made a collective decision that their survival lay in real peace, an end to aggression, the pursuit of prosperity and western-style democracy.

Real peace, is after all, a collective agreement to live and let live. Only when two peoples mutually decide to make that a heartfelt goal can it exist, and without that basic realization all the schemes and negotiations, all the promises of land for peace, territory swaps, redrawn borders and the like are just a prelude to another round of conflict.

Or to put it in even simpler terms, real peace comes when the cost has been so great for the aggressor that resorting to hostilities again for anything other than an existential threat is almost unthinkable.

Because, in the end, real peace is the fruit of decisive victory. That's a lesson of history that could stand to be revisited today.

Jerusalem - 4000 Years In Five Minutes

Today is Yom Yerushalayim, Jerusalem Day. here's a great video that give you a capsule history in just five minutes.Note how little of that 4,000 year-old history the Arabs figure in..just a small, quickly dissipating ripple in the river of Jerusalem's story.

Jerusalem will always be Israel's undivided capital.
