George Zimmerman's Wife Arrested For Perjury
The plot thickens...Shellie Zimmerman, George Zimmerman's wife was arrested on perjury charges today based on allegations she lied in court about money they had collected on their website for Zimmerman's defense in the Trayvon Martin Case, where he's being tried for second degree murder.
The death occurred during a confrontation in a Sanford, Fla., gated community where Zimmerman lived between Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer and Trayvon Martin. Zimmerman was originally not charged with a crime , but was arrested and charged after an outcry by activists led by Al Sharpton and others. He has pleaded not guilty and is claiming self-defense.
Zimmerman had his bond revoked and was ordered re-incarcerated by the judge in the case over the same squabble over money collected on his website.
Much is being made over the fact that Zimmerman apparently paid a few personal bills with the money, but given that he can't work at his job or live in his home because of death threats, his using some of the money in this fashion is fairly understandable.
The arrest of his wife (and her subsequent release on a $1,000 bond) gives me the impression that the authorities in Seminole county, particularly prosecutor Angela Corey who issued the warrant for Shellie Zimmerman's arrest are trying to implement two strategies here. No jury has been sequestered yet, so there's obviously an attempt to destroy George Zimmerman's credibility with potential jurors and with the court before that happens. Also, by harassing his wife, they are probably putting pressure on Zimmerman to make everybody hapy and cop to a plea bargain on a lesser charge, since there's no way they can make murder two stick.
