Proud 'Palestinians' Mahmoud Abbas And Most Of The Fatah Leadership Are Jordanian Citizens!

Some people in the past have criticized me because I continue to consider the 'Palestinians' a made up nationality and insist that Jordan is the actual Arab 'Palestinian' state.

They're not taking into account that Jordan as 'Palestine' was the intention of the British partition of the Palestine Mandate in 1923, as codified in international law by the San Remo Agreement. The majority of Jordan's population then were 'Palestinian' - Quraysh Arabs, who were town dwellers as opposed to the Bedouin, who were desert dwellers. 80% of the Palestine Mandate was given to Abdullah, the present King's grandfather who established a minority Bedouin Hashemite monarchy over the 'Palestinians' that continues to this day. Presently, even given the inevitable intermarriage, the split is roughly 75% 'Palestinian' and about 25% Bedouin, with many of the Bedouin Hashemite loyalists installed in key positions in government and the army.

Moreover, in 1967 when Israel took over Judea and Samaria (AKA the West Bank) after Jordan attacked them, every Arab there was a Jordanian citizen and remained one according to Jordan's own laws until the mid 1990's.

The laws were changed because the minority Bedouin Hashemite monarchy has always feared that someday the majority of non-Bedouins would try to take over. That almost happened once before during 'Black September' back in 1970 when Yasser Arafat tried to take over the country and the Jordanian Arab Legion killed and expelled thousands of 'Palestinians'.

As I've reported before, the Bedouin minority has upped the ante on 'de-Palestinizing' Jordan by arbitrarily taking away Jordanian citizenship from thousands of people who identify themselves as 'Palestinians' and have held Jordanian citizenship for decades.

Ah, but that's for the little people.

After Mahmoud Abbas' little screed at the UN, some people applauded what they saw as his brave championship of 'Palestinian' nationhood. Who would have imagined that Mahmoud Abbas and most of the Fatah leadership have applied for and been granted Jordanian citizenship for themselves and their families? You see, according to the October 9th 2011 Jerusalem Post reporting on an article in the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, a significant number of PA leaders and their families are now full Jordanian citizens:

Atef Tarawneh, deputy speaker of the Jordanian parliament, denounced the decision to revoke the citizenship of thousands of Jordanians of Palestinian origin.

Tarawneh said that the decision was “harmful” to national unity and the constitution in Jordan.

He added that he recently met with King Abdullah II and warned him against the repercussions of revoking the citizenships. He said that the decision has harmed investment in the kingdom because dozens of Jordanian-Palestinian businessmen living abroad were afraid to return home out of fear that the authorities would confiscate their passports.

According to the London-based Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper, a significant number of PA leaders are registered as full Jordanian citizens.

The paper pointed out that the leaders applied for Jordanian citizenship at a time when they were urging the Jordanian authorities to stop giving Palestinians Jordanian citizenship, in order to “consolidate their Palestinian identity.” The Jordanian government had justified its decision to strip Palestinians of their citizenship by using the same argument.

However, the Jordanians have long seen the Palestinian majority in the kingdom as a demographic threat.

The decision to rescind the citizenship of tens of thousands of Palestinians is seen in the context of this fear.

Al-Quds Al-Arabi quoted sources in Amman as saying that Abbas and his entire family carry Jordanian passports.

Other PA leaders who carry Jordanian passports include former PA prime minister Ahmed Qurei, Abbas’s spokesman Nabil Abu Rudaineh and Fatah’s Muhammad Dahlan.

The paper did not say when the Palestinian officials were given Jordanian citizenship. PA spokesmen in Ramallah refused to comment on the report.

A Fatah official, however, said that he was not surprised to hear that Palestinian leaders were carrying Jordanian passports. He said he believed most of the PA leaders had applied for and received Jordanian passports in the past 15 years.

Tarawneh, by the way is of 'Palestinian' origin.

Al-Quds Al-Arabi also reported that it was the PA leaders who had asked for Jordanian citizenship, and not the Jordanians who had offered it.

Who would have ever guessed that I and the Fatah leadership would agree on something? Jordan is the 'Palestinian' state and the nonsense going on at the UN is simply an attempted land grab by the 'Palestinians' in an attempt to complete St. Arafat's mission of pushing the Jews into the sea bit by bit and grab a more strategic location to launch the final jihad.

Obama Hits New Low - 38%!

Today's Gallup Poll has approval ratings for the president at 38%, with a a disapproval rate of 53%. The poll was taken between October 4th and October 6th.

The other recent polls are pretty similar. Rasmussen has him at 42% approval with 57% disapproval, Quinnipiac has him at 41% - 55% and ABC News/Washington Post poll has him at 42% approval and 54% disapproval. Average 'em out and you end up with 40.7% approval versus 54.75% disapproval.

The polls all differ in their actual mechanics, but one thing that becomes clear when you get into them is that the president's disapproval numbers are solidifying, with the percentage of respondents who say they strongly disapprove of this president and his policies steadily growing.

As you know, most polls oversample Democrats and many people have trouble criticizing a black president for fear of appearing 'racist'. I'd say Obama's aggregate approval number is probably in the mid-thirties and dropping.

Romney:Would Increase Israel Military Aid And Defense Coordination, Recognize Israel As A Jewish State

GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney made a major foreign policy speech today at The Citadel, the military college in South Carolina and got a warm reception from the cadets and faculty there as he criticized what he called the Obama administration's "feckless policies of the last three years."

"I believe we are an exceptional country with a unique destiny and role in the world," Romney said, with an audience of cadets sitting behind him. "Not exceptional, as the president has derisively said, in the way that the British think Great Britain is exceptional or the Greeks think Greece is exceptional. In Barack Obama’s profoundly mistaken view, there is nothing unique about the United States."

"I will reverse President Obama’s massive defense cuts," he said. "I will begin reversing Obama-era cuts to national missile defense and prioritize the full deployment of a multilayered national ballistic missile defense system."

"I will bolster and repair our alliances," he said. "Our friends should never fear that we will not stand by them in an hour of need. I will reaffirm as a vital national interest Israel’s existence as a Jewish state."

"Will Iran be a fully activated nuclear weapons state, threatening its neighbors, dominating the world’s oil supply with a stranglehold on the Strait of Hormuz?" he asked. "In the hands of the ayatollahs, a nuclear Iran is nothing less than an existential threat to Israel. Iran’s suicidal fanatics could blackmail the world. "By 2015, will Israel be even more isolated by a hostile international community? Will those who seek Israel’s destruction feel emboldened by American ambivalence? Will Israel have been forced to fight yet another war to protect its citizens and its right to exist?"

Romney also addressed the Iranian threat. He said that as president he would "enhance our deterrent against the Iranian regime by ordering the regular presence of aircraft carrier task forces, one in the Eastern Mediterranean and one in the Persian Gulf region. I will begin discussions with Israel to increase the level of our military assistance and coordination. And I will again reiterate that Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon is unacceptable."

"I will not surrender America’s role in the world," he said. "This is very simple. If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on Earth, I am not your president. You have that president today" he said, to cheers from the audience.

Yesterday, Romney released his list of foreign policy advisers and it contained more good news. The list includes author and think tank inhabitant Robert Kagan,Eliot Cohen, the director of the strategic studies program at Johns Hopkins University, former CIA director Michael Hayden, career diplomat and former aid to Vice President Dick Cheney Eric Edelman, Norm Coleman, the former Republican senator from Minnesota, former State Department Policy Planning Chief and North Korea expert Mitchell Reiss, Middle East author and former terrorist Walid Phares, and the Heritage Foundation’s Kim Holmes. These are all serious thinkers who have been outspoken about the Iranian threat, America's military deterrence and yes, improving our relationship with Israel and our other allies.

This is a very welcome development, as it shows that Governor Romney has been doing some serious thinking about foreign policy and has attracted some first class like minds.

Harry Reid Uses Nuclear Option - And May Just Have Sealed ObamaCare's Doom

Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pulled an unprecedented maneuver in the Senate yesterday that is undoubtedly going to have major implications for the way Senate business is conducted in the future.

Following a routine cloture ( end of debate) vote on the Chinese currency bill Reid is touting,Senate Republicans attempted to use the rules of the Senate to attach a post-cloture amendment that would have required a vote on the president's jobs bill he wants passed now, now, in its original, highly embarrassing form.

Because the Senate Democrats lack enough votes to enforce cloture or pass the bill, they were put in the position of having to vote against the amendment, which would have exploded President Obama's myth that only the Evil Republicans are the obstruction to getting his jobs bill passed.

What Reid did then was to object to the affirmative ruling on the amendment and force a vote along party lines, 51-48 to disallow the amendment and change the Senates rules to stop the minority party in the future from offering post cloture amendments ...even though he had to ignore the Senate parliamentarian's ruling to do it.

This thuggish behavior, known as the Nuclear Option, is exactly what the bi-partisan Gang of 14 got together to prevent back when the GOP had the Senate majority, in order to safeguard the rights of the minority party.

The Republicans like Lindsay Graham and John McCain who formed the Gang of 14 back then reasoned that the day would come when they would be in the minority and they expected the Democrats to likewise honor the agreement when things changed.

Suckers.

However, as the Senate Republicans who formed the Gang of 14 noted back in 2005, things change.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and most of the other Senate Republicans were absolutely livid at being sandbagged and said do openly. The odds of a GOP takeover of the Senate in 2012 are pretty good, and Harry Reid's little parliamentary mugging is not going to be forgotten.

Come January 2013, look for ObamaCare and other elements of Obama's agenda to be dismantled in exactly the same way if the GOP takes the Senate.

That's a very good thing on its face, but a bad thing overall because the precedent Reid just set is going to further poison the climate in DC and make it harder for the two parties to work together.

A despicable action from a fairly despicable man. It takes a rare bird to crap in his own nest.

Pat Condell: The Great Palestinian Lie

Once again, Pat Condell has some uncommon common sense. And quite eloquently too.

The Council Has Spoken!! This Week's Watchers Council Results

The Council has spoken, the votes have been cast, and the results are in for this week, carved eternally in the akashic records of cyberspace.

We had close matches this week in both Council and non-Council categories, a measure of the quality of all these entries. And boy, do we have some excellent winners this week!

Race is still cited as a large factor in American politics almost exclusively by the Left and the Democrats, who depend on identity politics to win elections. In fact,it's become such a factor that Democrat strategists almost depend on a monolithic black turnout for the Democrats at election time, with the Obama Administration being particularly egregious in this regard. The week's winner, The Razor points out exactly How Taking the Black Vote For Granted Is Racist. Here's a slice of this excellent essay:

I'm a white guy and I don’t claim to understand what it means to be black in the United States although I try. I grew up in a house with a father who worked with black people and spoke about them using an assortment of epithets. When I referred to my late father as a bigot, my elderly mother was shocked and defended him saying that he didn’t have a problem with black people just those he worked with. I grew up in a different era after the Civil Rights struggle had been won, raised by a mother who cultivated a conscience within me, one based on the morality of her strong Roman Catholic faith mixed with egalitarianism arising from her German work ethic. My political heroes were men like Martin Luther King Jr., FDR and Abraham Lincoln. My favorite baseball player electrified the diamond whenever he made it to base: Lou Brock. And the music I listened to with my friends as we explored the woods surrounding our suburban neighborhoods: rap pioneers Grandmaster Flash, the Gap Band and Kurtis Blow.

But appreciating black culture doesn’t mean that I understand what it means to be black. Living in Japan I was regularly discriminated against because I was a foreigner, and that gave me an insight into what it must be like. I’d walk into a store and the clerk behind the counter would watch me suspiciously afraid that I would steal something (and afraid I’d speak English to him). Newspapers regularly insinuated that foreigners were behind all crime even though statistically 95% was carried out by native Japanese. Restaurants with empty seats that I entered suddenly became “full.” Landlords refused to rent an apartment to my wife and I, so the rental agent who assisted us resorted to calling prospective landlords and asking them flat out, “Are you willing to rent to Americans?” After 25 or 30 we found one willing to take the $8,000 bribe known euphemistically as “key money” (reikin) and rented to us. At the English Language school I taught at one of the teachers had been warned not to date a Japanese girl. A few days after that warning he was assaulted by a biker gang and nearly killed, spending 3 weeks in the hospital. For four years there I was a subject of scorn and fascination wherever I went, and it took several years after leaving Japan for me to regain my perspective and love of the Japanese and their culture. But escape from that racist environment was only a plane ticket away, and for a variety of reasons I chose to live there. I recognize that isn’t an option for black Americans.

I lived in a very isolated place in Tanzania for a year and that showed me the limits of skin color. The people I associated with shared the same skin color but were very different. The Tongwe tribe that I lived with had avoided Arab slavers during the 15th-19th centuries by hiding in the mountains. They had been forced off the mountains and their small villages into large towns of mixed tribes during President Nyerere’s socialist collectivization experiment known as Ujamaa. They were very poor and viewed as backward by the other tribes, especially the Chagga, the tribe making up most of Tanzania’s ruling elite. I noticed these differences whenever I traveled up Lake Tanganyika from our research site to Kigoma with some Tongwe I hired as guides and helpers. They were quite uncomfortable in town, and acted in the way you would expect someone from Iowa might after stepping foot for the first time in Manhattan, and relied upon me to deal with government officials and merchants even though my command of Swahili was rudimentary. At the time I was noticing the differences between tribes in Tanzania, I was also exposed to the aftermath of the greatest genocide since the Killing Fields in Cambodia. Outside of Kigoma refugee camps had been set up for the Hutus who escaped to northern Tanzania after the Tutsi took over of Rwanda, ending the Hutu’s slaughter there. There was no difference in skin color between Hutu and Tutsi – but like the Tongwe and Chagga they came from cultures different enough to cause trouble. To the Tongwe that meant a lower standard of living and subservience to the Chagga; to the Tutsis it meant slaughter on a horrific scale.

In our non-Council category this week, the honors were carried off by Barry Rubin for Why Most of The Mass Media Can’t Report Honestly on Israel—Or Other Middle East Issues submitted by Joshuapundit.

Here are this week’s full results. Only Snapped Shot was unable to vote this week, but he was not affected by the mandatory 2/3 vote penalty:

Rep. Alllen West Roasts A Black Hollywood Lefty

Oooh, this is a good one. Actor Samuel L. Jackson decided to take a shot at Republicans and the Tea Party, saying essentially that President Obama's race was the name of the game. Watch how Rep. Allen West gives it to him:

“Samuel L. Jackson, I guess, disregards the 16.7 percent unemployment rate in the black community, a 20 percent unemployment rate for black adult males and a 45-46 percent unemployment for black teenagers,” the Florida Republican said. “I think the racism that he is talking about is coming out of the White House and this administration.”

The Real Face of The 'Occupy Wall Street' Movement: "It's The Jew's Fault!"

Notice that his fellow protesters do absolutely nothing to counteract this anti-Semite. Instead, they gather around him in solidarity. Based on first hand reports I've heard, his viewpoint is not at all uncommon. This is not one isolated lunatic.

For those of you whom are history challenged, this is exactly how the Nazis started, and it's highly fitting that ex-Nazi collaborator George Soros is funding this group and others like it nationwide.

Contrast this if you will with the Tea Party. Literally tons of footage has been taken of Tea Party rallies nationwide to try to find even one hanger on saying something remotely like this to justify the constant accusations of 'racism' and nothing. Nada. Zip.

The Obama Administration and prominent Democrats have made a lot of sympathetic noises about the 'Occupy' protesters. Just yesterday, Nancy Pelosi was quoted as saying 'G-d bless them'.

This is quite fitting, since the 'Occupy' protests are intended as the opening salvo of the Obama Campaign and a foretaste of what it's going to be like as the president continues to beat the class warfare drum loudly. Is this really what we want in the White House?

I hope my Jewish readers are getting this loud and clear. The game is changing. If you can't see yourself voting for a philosemitic pro-Israel Republican, at least don't vote to put President Obama back in the White House.

A Message For The Palin Haters

I note that the Palin Haters on the Left are out in force today, celebrating what they consider to be their victory.

Andrew Sullivan, of course is as excited about this as a pedophile let loose in an elementary school and was predictably vile. Now that his obsession with Governor Palin's vagina is no longer a target, he'll be limited to writing about his homosexuality and occasional flacking for Obama, in that order.

Being creatures of the Left, the giddy celebrants are too stupid to see the implications of someone with integrity and something to offer who was not part of the political Ruling Class be forced to choose between running for office and having she and her family targeted for demonization and even physical attack. There were plenty of violent threats and fantasies concerning Governor Palin and her children that were put out there quite openly for the world to see, and a substantial risk that someone might have tried to act on them. I can testify personally to deleting comments on this site to that effect. A detailed map to her isolated family home in Wasilla was even published in stalker Joe McGinniss's latest anti-Palin screed to assist all the deranged wanna-be Jared Loughners of the world in getting to a mother with small kids at home.

She was, in essence the ultimate Uppity Woman Who Didn't Know Her Place and strayed off the Leftist plantation, and that just couldn't be allowed, so she had to be destroyed. After weighing all the factors, she simply chose a different way and as disappointed as I am, I understand why she did.

Another thing I'm certain of is that when Governor Palin said that she's planning to throw her considerable energy and skills into unseating President Obama and putting more real conservatives into Congress, she meant exactly that, and not being shackled by a campaign is going to free her up in ways that are going to be the Left's worst nightmare. If her batting average of .785 in 2010 is any indication, they might have been a lot better off with her running for office. And at 47, she has plenty of time if she wants to take another stab at the top job in the future.

For those that are enjoying a good laugh at Governor Palin now, an old Irish saying:

"Ligean dó gáire a Bhuaigh" ( "Let him laugh who wins")

Palin's Announces She's Not Running In 2012

Governor Sarah Palin finally ended the speculation and announced that she will not be running for president in 2012.

Here's her statement on the matter:

October 5, 2011
Wasilla, Alaska

After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order.

My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.

In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!

God bless America.

– Sarah Palin

For interested parties, you can listen to an interview with Governor Palin on Mark Levin's show here. In it, just as a point of information, she makes clear she has no plans whatsoever to run as a third party candidate. She realizes that a conservative third party candidate who siphons votes would just lead to Barack Obama's re-election.

It's obvious from what Governor Palin had to say that in the end, there were two primary considerations for her. First and foremost, she wasn't willing to put her family through the same filth at the hands of the Left and the media they went through last time. Second, without a campaign, she is definitely a lot more free to devote her considerable energies to getting more actual conservatives elected to office. Those who mock her ought to take a look at the 2010 midterms and look at her batting average, which was in the high 700's.

I respect her decision and her desire not to make her family a target, but I'm severely disapointed. Not just for me personally, but for the country.

Governor Palin was the only candidate in 2008 who was not from the Ruling Class, the only one who wasn't a millionaire and the one with the most executive experience on either ticket. She was someone with the instincts and courage to do what needed to be done in DC Land, and it's a disturbing commentary of how dire politics and media in America has become that she felt it was better not to seek office in order to avoid another obscene assault on her family.

Governor Palin is far from the only public figure who has had to make that decision and left the country a lot poorer for it.

On the positive side, now that the decision is made she's free to rally the troops and cause a whole lot of trouble for the established order. She's not going to disappear, and her story is far from over. In the end, the Left might just end up wishing she'd run after all.

The 'Arab Spring' Reaches Saudi Arabia - Courtesy Of Iran

Saudi Arabia announced that an unnamed foreign country - normally code for Iran - was responsible for unrest in its Eastern Province, after armed men opened fire on police during a protest near the city of al-Qatif on Monday.Eleven Saudi security personnel and three protesters were wounded when security forces clashed with protesters and a group of armed men opened up onthe Saudi forces with automatic weapons and Molotov cocktails.

“A group of instigators inspired by a foreign country gathered in al-Awwamiya village near Qatif at 9pm on Monday and tried to undermine security,” an interior ministry official was quoted as saying in a statement to the Saudi press agency.

While the majority of Saudis are Sunni and live in the western part of the country near the Red Sea where Riyadh and Mecca are located, the Eastern part of the country near the Persian Gulf is home to Saudi Arabia's largely Shi'ite underclass. Just coincidentally, the East is also where the oil is.

The Saudis, aided by the British( who wanted that oil and saw Ibn-Saud as a reliable ally) conquered the Eastern Province in 1925, and its Shi'ites, about 10% of the Saudi population have been subjugated ever since.

Iran sees this as an opportunity to joust with the Saudis, just as it attempted to do using the Shi'ites in Bahrain. The tactic of using an armed militia enveloped in sectarian protests is a time-honored tactic the mullahs used in Lebanon and in Iraq.

This is not the first protest by Shi'ites in the Qatif area. One demand has been the withdrawal of Saudi forces from Bahrain, a goal that means little to Saudi Shi'ites compared with other issues but one that means a lot to Iran. Who's pulling the strings is fairly obvious.

Nor is Qatif a random location. It's close to some major installations in the Saudi oil infrastructure like the Abqaiq processing center, which handles about 70 per cent of the Kingdom’s production.

Expect further protests and unrest in this area...courtesy of Iran.

GOP Candidates Boycott Univision Presidential Debate Over Rubio Smear

US Spanish only channel Univision is holding a GOP presidential debate - but Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Jon Huntsman, Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney will be giving it a miss.

The reason? Oh, nothing much. The five candidates are refusing to participate at the request of three Florida Hispanic Republican lawmakers who accused Univision of running a 'news' story about the 24-year-old drug bust of Senator Marco Rubio’s brother in law in retaliation because Rubio refused to do an interview on the show Al Punto, which supports amnesty for illegal aliens.

Univision of course is denying the attempted blackmail, and said in a statement that has called the allegations of a quid-pro-quo “absurd,” and said that the July story was reported fairly and accurately.

Yes, and of course the arrest of Rubio's brother in law back in 1987 when the Senator was 16 is a major story that merited two full days of extensive coverage.

Meanwhile Univision isn't covering the story of President Obama being photographed campaigning with Malik Shabazz, one of the members of the New Black Panther Party who was convicted of civil rights violations for "patrolling" a voting station in Philadelphia with a night stick. You might remember that one..the charges were dismissed right after Obama was elected over the career prosecutor's objections and after the conviction was made.

But then neither is much of the Dinosaur Media. You can only imagine what the coverage would be like if Michele Bachmann or Mitt Romney was caught campaigning with David Duke or with members of the Aryan Brotherhood.

Three of Rubio’s friends and political allies – U.S. Rep. David Rivera, state House leader Carlos Lopez-Cantera, and Miami-Dade Republican Chairman Erik Fresen – called Monday for the Univision boycott in a letter to the Republican National Committee and the campaigns.

“This attempt at extorting a respected Republican elected official like Senator Rubio, who is also a proud American of Hispanic descent, is offensive and unacceptable,” they wrote.

They called for Univision to apologize and to fire its news president, Isaac Lee, who was accused of offering the quid-pro-quo deal to Rubio. Lee has repeatedly denied the charge.

"We respectfully decline your request to issue a public apology or to request the resignation of our President of News, Mr. Isaac Lee. Lost in the inflammatory language being used by you is the that our story was truthfully and accurately reported," Univision said in a written statement issued before midnight Monday.

“More importantly, Univision takes exception to the false assertion that it attempted to ‘extort’ Senator Rubio in any way, shape or form,” the statement said. “At no point in time did anyone from Univision offer to kill or soften the story regarding Senator Rubio’s brother-in-law in exchange for appearing on any Univision news program."

You see, Marco Rubio made a mistake. He doesn't believe in demonizing illegal aliens, but he doesn't believe in amnesty for them either and that didn't sit well with the people in charge over at Univision because he's a high profile politician who might very well get offered the vice presidential nomination...and as *gasp* a conservative Republican. Dios Mio!

Not only do the GOP candidates gets props for standing on principle and doing the right thing, they're also not losing anything. Both NBC and Telemundo will be airing GOP presidential debates in Spanish, and Spanish speaking voters will ample opportunity to see those debates.

A Few Thoughts on The 'Occupy' Protests

Much attention is being given lately to the 'Occupy Wall Street' and similar protests.

As both Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh among many others have documented, the protesters are mostly Soros-funded and linked to the Obama campaign via entities like the Tides Foundation and Open Society. The Working People's Party, The Democrat's official arm in New York City is actually advertising on Craig'sList to hire protesters for Wall Street and offering $350-650 a week, depending on responsibility and length of time on staff. And the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), the official campaign arm of the Democrats in the House of Representatives is actively fundraising to finance the 'Occupy' protests. Moreover, a few trial balloons have even been floated about President Obama suspending the 2012 elections as a class warfare-style revolution creates chaos in the streets.

Much has been made of an influential and well connected Democrat like North Carolina Democrat Governer Bev Purdue talking about suspending congressional elections (no, she wasn't kidding) and ex-Obama Director of the Office of Management and Budget Peter Orszag's remarks in his recent piece in The New Republic: “We might be a healthier democracy if we were a slightly less democratic one.”

Both remarks could certainly be seen as feelers to see how the idea might play with the general public, given how Progressives feel about Big Government versus what the Founders had in mind when they created this as a free country.

Are we headed for the suspension of elections after an Obama-induced 'emergency'? Certainly I could see where the idea might be attractive to him.

However, there are a number of practical problems with that scenario.

Obama is extremely unpopular with the majority of Americans. An attempt by him to suspend elections would cause a firestorm in opposition and of necessity would have to involve the US military.Given what the president's relationship with the military has been thus far, I doubt they'd go along with it. Even cops and the military say no sometimes, especially in a free society where they enjoy support from the majority of Americans.

Second, the Republicans currently control the House. I doubt that Obama and his minions want to freeze things with that in place. And if he tries to adjourn the House, see the above paragraph.

Third, a great deal of media attention is being paid to the Soros- funded 'occupy protests' as a harbinger of a Russian-style class based revolution. In their heart of hearts, many of the Lefties in America's press rooms simply thrill to the idea of a romantic revolution, just like the profs used to talk about back in J-school when they reminisced about those heady days back in the sixties. However, a closer look shows the protesters' actual demands are mostly nonsensical and reflect that most of these people are simply doing what they're being paid to do and repeating whatever slogans and talking points they're told to say.

Before giving this much worth as a serious movement, I think it's worth taking a look at whom most of these people actually are..students, professional agitators, latter day hippies and 'activists' who mostly grew up middle class, are used to having their rights respected and feel justified in bitching about a little pepper spray and semi-rough handling.

They have no concept of what might happen if their opposition decided that they didn't feel like respecting those rights any more and started taking stern and even violent measures to restore order. Remember, it's the Right that mainly has the guns in this country and knows how to use them.

Rather than a nice 'class warfare revolution ' resulting in a Soviet style statist regime, I think the Left would end up with something like what happened in Indonesia with the attempted PKI Communist takeover there..thousands of dead Leftists and a lot of others fleeing the country, in jail, or in hiding.

As I've frequently said before, the big question now is whether we retain our Beloved Republic or go the way of Rome. That Republic is our direct precursor and it lasted 500 years until the same sort of people who are on the Left now and were relying on demos, the mob, to shore up their political power actually endangered the stability and survival of the country. That's when Roman military hero Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon, most of the people of Rome decided this democracy stuff was more trouble than it was worth and looked to a guy on a white horse with simple answers to restore order.

I'm certainly not advocating the above scenario. I merely state that if the Left tries to create chaos in the streets and the Obama Administration attempts to use it to suspend elections, that's the very likely outcome. Most of the Left doesn't read Scripture and is largely ignorant of it, so they're unaware of the wise words of the Biblical Prophet Hosea about those who sow the wind reaping the whirlwind.

If things go to that point, I have a feeling that it would up end up being a particularly nasty blowback, and one the Left never anticipated in the wildest imagination. Hopefully it won't come to that, as common sense prevails.

Moochelle's $500K Safari Adventure

Courtesy of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit, the good folks at Judicial Watch finally got the expense records and passenger manifests from the United States Air Force related to the June 21-27, 2011, trip taken by First Lady Michelle Obama, her family and her entourage to South Africa and Botswana.

The results are absolutely appalling, give America's economic challenges.

The Air force provided a C-32 - a Boeing 757 modified by the military for the purpose of flying people with clout - to fly First Lady Michelle Obama, her two daughters and her mother, a niece and a nephew, a hairstylist, makeup artists and various aides and hangers on to South Africa and Botswana to give a couple of speeches, meet Nelson Mandela, and oh yes - enjoy a safari on a private celebrity game preserve.

The flight alone cost US taxpayers $424,142, with another $928.44 listed as the cost of providing 192 meals for the 21 people who made the trip. That doesn't include the total of all costs for the First Lady's trip, such as expenses for security, ground transportation, laundry, room service, hotels, or the safari vacay. Half a million, easy.

As a real laugher, the Obama daughters were listed on the passenger manifest as "senior staff."

The supposed purpose of this luxury trip to South Africa and Botswana was to speak on education, health and wellness issues.

“This trip was as much an opportunity for the Obama family to go on a safari as it was a trip to conduct government business,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “This junket wasted tax dollars and the resources of our overextended military. No wonder we had to sue to pry loose this information.”

Or to use the First Lady's own words, this was yet another opportunity for her to get back at our 'downright mean country' by running up yet another huge tab.

Update: Long time Joshua's Army member Louie Louie points out that $928.44 for 192 meals comes out to $4.83 per meal, which is pretty frugal. But when you do the math, there were 21 people on the trip being served, and 192 'meals'. Works out to 27 'meals' per day for 21 people, so either the $$ amount is understated or a large part of it is for liquor, which means the actual cost for food is higher by almost 1/3. And that doesn't count meals eaten off the plane.

Christie's Out

He's supposed to announce it at 1 PM EST.

Aside from the fact he's been a governor less time than Obama was a Senator when he ran in 2008, the sheer logistics of putting together a campaign with the GOP primaries only a few months off always made Christie for president a longshot.

So did a lot of his ideas, which would not have exactly set the GOP's conservative base on fire.

UPDATE: Told ya so.

Smoking Gun Surfaces On Fast And Furious - Did AG Eric Holder Lie To Congress?

http://weaselzippers.us/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Eric_Holder.jpg

It certainly looks that way.

Under pressure from Rep. Darrel Issa and Sen. Chuck Grassley's investigative committee, The Obama Administration finally did a partial document dump on 'Fast And Furious' , a botched Department of Justice operation that deliberately allowed the sale of weapons to Mexican drug cartels. It led to the death of an estimated 200 Mexican citizens and at least one US border patrol agent.

In his testimony at a Judiciary Committee hearing on May 3, 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder denied he knew anything much about Fast and Furious, saying "I'm not sure of the exact date, but I probably heard about Fast and Furious for the first time over the last few weeks."

Now, a number of the internal Justice Department documents show that at least ten months before that hearing, Holder began receiving frequent memos discussing Fast and Furious from the head of the National Drug Intelligence Center and Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer.

Rep. Issa said back in June that he was certain Holder knew all about Fast and Furious and implied that he deliberately lied to the committee in his testimony. It looks like he was right.

Holder's story? The officials in those emails were talking about a different case from before Eric Holder became Attorney General. And anyway, Holder misunderstood that question from the committee - he did know about Fast and Furious - just not the details.

That makes him either a liar and perjurer or someone way too incompetent to be Attorney General. Personally, I'd vote for both, especially considering the ongoing coverup.

Just like Watergate, we're left with the same old question - What did Eric Holder know, and when did he know it? And did it go even further up the ladder?

Obama Fried Chicken!!

President Obama's destined to be known for more than his abysmal economic policies, extravagant ways and amateur foreign policy. Finger licken' good!!

And it's not just KFC in China..apparently there's now a whole chain of Obama Fried Chicken shops showing the president posed like Colonel Sanders...including the Colonel's famous String tie.Maybe the president can pick up a little cash doing an endorsement deal, or some commercials, eh?

The linked article speculated that this might be a nose tweaking for the President because of his tariff policies on American-bred chicken, which range from 50 to 100 per cent, which means some Chinese importers paid as much as twice the price for American chicken. If so, that would be a fairly typical Chinese way of ridiculing someone.

And it's not just China. Here's a picture of a fried chicken place in my parent's old neighborhood of Brownsville, in Brooklyn NYC:

Mark Steyn: Finally, The Cognoscenti Ask: What Could We Be Thinking?

Author and columnist extraordinaire Mark Steyn has a great new piece out that directly addresses the 'buyer's remorse' some of the elites are now expressing about the man they fooled the American people into putting in the White House. Here's a slice:

'The way I think about it," Barack Obama told a TV station in Orlando, "is, you know, this is a great, great country that had gotten a little soft."

He has a point. This is a great, great country that got so soft that 53% of electors voted for a ludicrously unqualified chief executive who would be regarded as a joke candidate in any serious nation.

One should not begrudge a man who seizes his opportunity. But one should certainly hold in contempt those who allow him to seize it on the basis of such flaccid generalities as "hope" and "change": That's more than "a little" soft.

"He's probably the smartest guy ever to become president," declared presidential historian Michael Beschloss the day after the 2008 election. But you don't have to be that smart to put one over on all the smart guys.

"I'm a sap, a specific kind of sap. I'm an Obama Sap," admits David Brooks, the softest touch at the New York Times. Tina Brown, editor of Newsweek, now says of the president: "He wasn't ready, it turns out, really."

If you're a tenured columnist at the Times, you can just about afford the consequences of your sappiness. But among the hundreds of thousands of your readers who didn't know you were a sap until you told them three years later, soft choices have hard consequences.

If you're one of Obama's core constituencies, those who looked so photogenic at all the hopeychangey rallies, things are really hard: "Young Becoming 'Lost Generation' Amid Recession" (CBS News). Tough luck, rubes. You got a bumper sticker; he got to make things worse.

But don't worry, it's not much better at the other end of the spectrum: "Obama's Wall Street Donors Look Elsewhere" (UPI).

Gee, aren't you the fellows who, when you buy a company, do something called "due diligence"? But you sunk everything into stock in Obamania Inc. on the basis of his "perfectly creased pant leg" or whatever David Brooks was drooling about that day? You handed a multitrillion-dollar economy to a community organizer and you're surprised that it led to more taxes, more bureaucracy, more regulation, more barnacles on an already rusting hulk?

Hard statism is usually murmured in soft, soothing, beguiling terms:

Regulation is about cleaner air, healthier restaurants, safer children's toys. Sounds so nice. But federal regulation alone sucks up 10% of GDP. That's to say, Americans take the equivalent of the Canadian economy and toss it down the toilet just in complying with federal paperwork. Obama and the great toxic alphabet soup of federal regulation — EPA, OSHA, SEC, DHSS — want to take that 10% and crank it up to 12%, 14%, 15%.

Who could have foreseen that? The most dismal thing about that David Brooks column conceding that "yes, I'm a sap ... remember, I'm a sap ... as you know, I'm a sap" was the headline his New York Times editors chose to append to it: "Obama Rejects Obamaism."

In other words, even in a column remorselessly cataloguing how one of its smartest smart guys had been repeatedly suckered by Obama on jobs, on Medicare, on deficits, on tax reform, etc., the New York Times chose to insist that there's still something called "Obamaism" — prudent, centrist, responsible — that for some perverse reason the man for whom this political philosophy is named insists on betraying, 24/7, week in, month out, spring, summer, autumn, tax season. You can set your clock by Obama's rejection of "Obamaism."

That's because there's no such thing. Never was.

"Obamaism" was the Emperor's new centrism: To a fool such as your average talk-radio host, His Majesty appears to be a man of minimal accomplishments other than self-promotion marinated in a radical faculty-lounge view of the world and the role of government. But, to a wise man such as your average presidential historian or New York Times columnist, he is the smartest guy ever to become president.

In part, this is a natural extension of an ever more conformist and unrepresentative establishment's view of where "the center" is. On issues from abortion to climate change, a Times man or Hollywood activist or media professor's notion of "centrism" is well to the left of where American opinion is.

That's one reason why a supposedly "center-right" nation has wound up regulated into sclerosis, drowning in debt and embarking on its last decade as the world's leading economy.

You have to wonder if part of the rage stoking the 'occupy' protests comes from people reacting to how the elites sold them down the river with Obama. Read the rest here.

How Obama Got Around Congress Withholding $200 Million In Aid To 'Palestinians'

A story in the UK Independent says that the US Congress showed its displeasure with the 'Palestinians' going unilaterally to the UN by withholding $200 million in aid that was supposed to be disbursed to Mahmoud Abbas' little fiefdom by the end of this fiscal year, which ended October 1st.

Being part of the British press and sharing their well known attitude towards Israel, the article is sympathetic to Abbas, referring to him as being 'punished' and inferring that the US Congress is under the thumb of those Evil Zionists, rather than being upset with the 'Palestinians' for allying with Hamas or for abrogating their agreements under two treaties the US is signatory to, the Road Map and The Oslo Accords.

However, there are indications that this was a set up and if my source is correct, both the Obama Administration and the 'Palestinians' were privy to it.

One of my notorious Little Birdies works directly in the 'Palestinian Authority' and we've been correspondents for some time, sort of frenemies, if you get my meaning.

My source had a good laugh at Congresses' action. According to this person, the Obama Administration was aware for some time that the final $200 million might be withheld by Congress and informed the 'Palestinians' in advance. The Obama Administration promised the 'Palestinians' that they would do their best to head this off, but when they couldn't, an arrangement was made with the Saudis to make up the missing $200 million in advance.

That rang a bell...and showed me that as usual, my source was almost certainly correct.

A scant ten days ago, the Saudis gifted Mahmoud Abbas and the 'Palestinians' with the exact sum the US Congress was withholding from them...$200 million.

My source didn't speculate, but knowing how these things work it's almost guaranteed that the Saudis either received the money from the Obama Administration directly to give to the 'Palestinians' or more likely, that the Saudis supplied the cash in exchange for an American quid pro quo somewhere else down the line.

President Obama is going to see to it that the 'Palestinians' receive their jizya no matter what..and a little thing like Congress certainly isn't going to stop him if he can help it.

Democrats Draw A Hard Line - Tax Increases Before Any Spending Cuts

I predicted this would happen, and it certainly wasn't much of a stretch.

When Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker John Boehner gave in to President Obama's desire to raise the debt ceiling, much was touted about a so called 'super committee' made up of six Democrats and six Republicans who were to come up with recommendations to cut the deficit by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years. it they weren't able to agree by November 23, Boehner and McConnell stupidly allowed themselves to be maneuvered into agreeing to massive automatic spending cuts, with a majority coming from the defense budget.

With a made to order deal like that, is it any wonder the Democrats are taking a hard line? If they dig their heels in, they get what they want either way. Either they get the tax increases they want, thus making the Republicans complicit in unpopular tax increases or they get massive cuts in the defense budget, where President Obama wants to slash by $700 billion anyway.

Virtually every Democrat member of the committee (James Clyburn, Chris Van Hollen and Xavier Becerra from the House, Max Baucus , John Kerry and Patty Murray from the Senate) are notorious for being on the far Left of the Party and never seeing a tax increase they didn't like. The GOP, on the other hand, went out of its way to avoid anyone associated with the Tea Party or on the party's conservative wing. The closest thing the GOP side of the committee has to that is Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania.

I still like Pat Caddel's description of our two parties...as he often says, there's the corrupt party and the stupid party.

If the stupid party is to survive, they had better smarten up.
