The Democrat's New Solution - Force Doctors To Accept Medicare And Medicaid
Here's the beginning of a new trend - the Democrats will increasingly call for doctors to be forced to treat medicare and medicaid patients at whatever Big Government wants pay them.
Kathleen Murphy,a Democrat running for the Virginia House of Delegates said last night in a debate wants a law to mandate exactly that:
FYI last night at the Great Falls Grange debate, Democrat delegate candidate Kathleen Murphy said that since many doctors are not accepting medicaid and medicare patients, she advocates making it a legal requirement for those people to be accepted.
She did not recognize that the payments are inadequate to cover the doctors' costs. She also did not recognize there is a shortage of over 45,000 physicians now and that it is forecast to be 90,000 in a few years.
Democrats appear to want to make physicians slaves of the state, but Democrats don't admit they would just drive more doctors out of practice into retirement and other occupations.
That, by the way is exactly what happened in the UK after National Health took over, to the point where the UK has a desperate shortage of physicians. Although even in Britain, private, non NHS practice is still allowed and most people of means use it. What's being proposed here is different and even worse - forcing all doctors to participate - which means a lot of doctors would either just retire or vote with their feet and establish themselves in another country.
And more Democrats are apparently warming to the idea, as a way to force ObamaCare to 'work'. Virginia's Gubernatorial Democrat candidate Terry McAuliffe has said openly that if elected, he'd shut down the state government in order to force a state exchange on the people of Virginia.
Look for this idea to spread to other Blue ruled locales like California.

Does anyone have any data on how enrollments at medical colleges and universities are going? My guess is that they will be going down.
Let me google that for you.

It's at an all-time high. You guess incorrectly.
A few things Anonymous,
Your link goes to the AMA, the medical profession's lobbying group which makes the information, shall we say, a bit suspect considering the source.
Second, they're talking about med school admissions, not actual doctors who end up practicing in the U.S. , which are two very different things. There's also no indication of how many of them are foreign students. From personal experience, I can tell you that a lot of foreign students from well to do families overseas go to U.S. medical schools.
The AMA puff piece itself admits that due to residency caps, a lot of med students doesn't equal more doctors.
And finally, just to throw this into the mix, as the NYT itself reports, over 40 percent of Med School instructors admitted they had passed students who should have failed their course, and that significant grade inflation exists.
Being the NYT, they of course didn't mention affirmative action or a disinclination to fail wealthy foreign students who pay full tuition, but I expect these are definitely factors.
Common sense would also tell most people that when you combine a hugely expensive professional education (in many cases involving six figure student loans) with government limits on earning that amount to a slow, torturous route to bankruptcy court, fewer people are going to adopt that particular profession, or if they do they'll practice it elsewhere where they can earn a living.
is anon hiding behind a new moniker?
this is a theme and statement anon will support.
