California's Latest- $1,000 Fine For Throwing Footballs, Frisbees Or Building Sand Castles On L.A. Beaches

No, I'm not kidding.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors just passed an ordinance to raise fines to up to $1,000 for anyone who throws a football or a Frisbee on any beach in Los Angeles County. No baseball either, not even a softball or a whiffle ball. Nothing except beach balls.

What, you haven't heard about the hundreds of fatal Frisbee injuries on L.A. County's beaches? Oh, wait,I haven't either.

Sorry kids, no sand castles either. The ordinance also prohibits digging any hole deeper than 18 inches into the sand except where permission is granted for film and TV production crews only. Which of course the Board of Supervisors expects to make them pay through the nose for.

The Board of Supervisors would have you believe that this is about public safety. What it's really about is that the Democrat ruled county's desperate for more money to spend on their pet projects and they hope to catch a few hundred tourists or locals unfamiliar with the new laws who look like they have the money to pay these outlandish fines and soak them good.

Imagine getting charged a grand in fines because your kid had the temerity to make a sand castle at the beach.

This from a place that's officially a sanctuary city for illegal aliens and cheerfully welcomed the OWS crowd to camp out at Los Angeles City Hall and do better than a million dollars worth of damage they then shrugged and billed the taxpayers for.

They undoubtedly will catch some people..but the savvy locals will simply go south to Orange County or north to Ventura County to the perfectly good beaches there, and the budget conscious film and TV productions will continue their exodus from what used to be the home of the movie industry. I know a number of experienced people who are already finding film work tougher and tougher to come by.

If you're thinking of coming to Los Angeles, I'd advise you not to bother unless you're the sort of person who likes seeing train wrecks up close. Or at least if you do, stay off the beach.

I grew up here and I used to love the freedom, the great weather, the open air and yes, the beaches. During my touring days, I used to look forward to returning. Nowadays, I'm just running out the clock until it's time to leave.

What happens to a person who throws a Frisbee while smoking and chewing on a high cholesterol (say, beef jerky) food simultaneously?

A summary execution?

This will cut into California's tourism, especially once word gets around about its dumb beach laws.
