Watcher's Council results 12/01/06
The winners are in for this week's Watcher's Council.
My post Genocide? What Genocide? was the winner this week, and I'm pleased that my fellow Council members thought enough of my humble efforts to honor me in this way...especially considering the competition. It's an honor just to be part of this group, let alone win.
I wrote about the absurd spectacle of Sudan's `president' Omar Hassan al-Bashir not only denying that there's any genocide in Darfur, in spite of estimates of 200,000 + people being murdered and a couple of milion ethnically cleansed...but saying it was the Jews fault, a `Zionist plot.'
I also chose to comment on the uselessness of the UN, and the relative silence of the MSM, the ` useful idiots'Left and Muslim `civil rights' organizations like CAIR.
What's more, I wrote about why Americans should care, and what I think our government should do about this tragedy.
A close second to me was Right Wing Nut House : THE ART AND ARTIFICE OF WAR REPORTING Rick's fine post this week in which he wrote about the line between reporting the news and making the news, especially when it comes to repeating enemy disinformation and propaganda.
In view of the revelations about the absolute falsity and political agenda behind a substantial part of the dinosaur media's coverage of recent events, this is a topic that bears discussing. Where do we draw the line between reporting the news and merely relaying enemy propaganda? The widespread use of stringers and sources that may have their own agenda as well as tacit MSM compliance with tyrannical regimes like Saddam's Iraq and the Palestinian Authority in not reporting the truth so as to maintain `access' to a story is something that needs to be explored.
Both of the non-Council winners dealt with this issue as well.
The non-Council winner was Flopping Aces - Backup: Getting The News From The Enemy
And in second place was Patterico’s Pontifications Is the L.A. Times Repeating Enemy Propaganda?
A complete list can be found at the site of our fearless leader, Watcher of Weasels
Hearty congratulations to all the winners!
