Ri-ight:
The US administration is quietly pressuring the Palestinians to come to the negotiating table, according to an influential American Jewish leader and longtime supporter of US President Barack Obama.
According to Alan Solow, chairman of the American Jewish umbrella organization, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, the Obama administration has learned some lessons from the mistakes of the past year, primarily “that trying to [pressure the sides] in public is not a recipe for success. One of the weaknesses of the [administration’s] approach toward Israel was that the settlement freeze demand was made publicly, and that put Prime Minister Netanyahu in a very difficult political position.”
Obama’s popularity ratings have suffered among Israelis due to a widespread perception in Israel that Obama favored the Palestinian side in the ongoing Arab-Israeli conflict. But Solow said American leaders are well aware the Palestinians are the party refusing to talk.
“I don’t think the Americans are asking Netanyahu to do more with respect to the Palestinians” than the concessions he has already made, such as the public acceptance of Palestinian statehood and a ten-month construction freeze in West Bank settlements.
“The administration is pressuring the Palestinians,” he insisted, “but [it must do so] quietly, without it appearing as though [Palestinian and Arab leaders] are caving in to American pressure.”
I see...but pressuring Israel publicly and privately and telling Jews where they could and couldn't live while asking nothing of the Palestinians was just fine, wasn't it? Certainly this tool never had anything to say about it while it was going on.
And while we're on the subject, exactly what 'pressure' is Obama putting on the Palestinians? He threatening to bring General Dayton home and stop spending US tax dollars building a Abbas a US equipped army? Perhaps telling them he's going to pull the financial plug of the Palestinian Authority in accordance with US law since they have terrorists from the Tanzim and the al-Aksa Martyr's Brigade on the PA payroll? Is Obama even asking for the PA to do what he wanted Israel to do, freeze all construction in the disputed areas?
You know he isn't. And so do Mr. Solow and his quisling pals at the AJC, the Conference of Presidents and J Street.
In fact Obama has done exactly the opposite, ponying up $40 million to UNRWA to support Hamas after the Canadian government made a principled decision to stop supporting UNRWA after a report by commissioned by the European Parliament showed that Hamas terrorists were deeply involved in the day-to-day running of the agency. That's something that's not exactly a newsflash to anyone who's aware of the facts on the ground and has knowledge of UNRWA's record.
I'm embarrassed by people like Alan Solow going to Israel and trying to carry water for the Obama Administration like this. And I'm embarrassed that they're not ashamed doing it.
