The Lessons Of The Aurora Shooting

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

A homicidal maniac took the occasion of a premiere showing of the new Batman movie to sneak a gun into the theater and murder 12 people.

Needless to say, the left was quick on the draw, with the reliably partisan Brian Ross linking the shooter, James Holmes, to the Tea Party. Of course.

Ross was forced to retract this after making an ass of himself, but the left has been tweeting about this extensively, even linking it in bizarre fashion to Rush Limbaugh.

What no one wants to discuss is that is is the left, and those well meaning people who want so passionately to disarm Americans who are to blame for this tragedy.

This is exactly like the Gabby Giffords shooting or the rampage at Virginia Tech, a virulently 'gun free zone'.

In each case, armed, law abiding citizens could have sent the murderers to hell whether they belonged and saved innocent lives.

People like the man who shot up the theater in Aurora Colorado don't care about gun control laws, or 'gun free zones', or much of anything else for that matter. Neither do most criminals. If they want a firearm, they have no problems breaking the law to obtain one. It is law abiding citizens who seek to protect themszelves and others who are victimized by draconian laws on owning guns and on concealed carry.

Chicago, Illinois, Barack Obama's hometown has a higher murder rate than the casualty count in Afghanistan. Yet it has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation.

Looking at the stats from other areas with harsh and prohibitive laws on gun ownership and concealed carry as opposed to those that don't and the correlation is obvious.

Had one or two of the patrons in that theater in Colorado been armed and ready to use their weapons to protect themselves and others, the death toll from this tragedy would have been far less and the families of the victims would have been spared the anguish that comes with losing a loved one forever.

It really is that simple.

UPDATE:Aurora, Colorado's gun laws provide a frame for this tragedy.Currently it is already unlawful there to carry a concealed "dangerous weapon," discharge firearms, unless by l aw enforcement on duty or on a shooting range. Nor can you carry loaded firearms in a motor vehicle.

It didn't stop James Homes.

If Chicago gangs killed this many people it wouldn't even make the national news.
