An interesting question...
It's simply a fact that Israel is virtually the only country in the Middle East where homosexuals can live in peace. And that includes 'democratic' Iraq.
As a matter of fact, as one of my correspondents who definitely ought to know has written me,the Shin Bet knows about a number of gay Palestinian men living illegally in Israel but has taken no steps to deport them because it would be a death sentence.
Yet a surprisingly large number of homosexuals, especially in Europe actively engage in Israel bashing.
European journalist Benjamin Weinthal has a very interesting piece in The Gay City News exploring this, using recent examples in Spain, where an Israeli float was barred from the Gay Pride parade to places like Toronto, where violently anti-Israel groups like Queers Against Israeli Apartheid (QAIA) were allowed to march in the parade.
Again, one of my correspondents has written me about the strange sight of homosexual groups like Queers For Palestine as well as Leftist Feminist groups teaming up with the local Islamists for violent anti-Israel demonstrations at Regent's Park in London.
Weinthal presents a very revealing quote from the late German Hard Left author Eike Geisel that goes a long way towards revealing how twisted and self-hating this kind of thinking has become:
“To be against Israel in the name of peace is something new. For this hostility has cast off any practical or political motives… This new anti-Semitism does not arise from base instincts, nor is it the product of honorable political intentions. It is the morality of morons. Anti-Jewish… hostility arises from the purest human needs; it comes from the yearning for peace. It is therefore entirely innocent; it is as universal as it is moral. This moral anti-Semitism completes Germany’s restoration to goodness, in that it heralds the perfection of inhumanity: the banality of good.”
Notice that Geisel writes about anti-Semitism and does not differentiate it from anti-Israel sentiment. I give her full marks for honesty and clarity.

This is something that has always baffled me-the anti-Israel side of the "gay movement." Maybe it comes from a need to be part of society and they think that is how they will be accpeted by the heterosexual community. I suppose the same could be said for Beinart et al, when it comes to bashing Israel as well. Apparently Jews do not have a monopoly on self-hatred.I suppose you could extrapolate and ask why the Gay Community aligns itself witht eh democrats as well. The Democrats perspective on Same-sex marriage is not different than the Republican version. In fact if it wasn't for the pro-Obama forces in California who voted against Gay Marriage during the last election, same-sex marriage would be the law of the land in Claifornia. It seems the Gays like the Jews have no idea who their real friends are and are not.
