As expected, the Democrat majority in the Senate rejected the House's 'cut cap and balance' plan on a party line vote..and then went ahead and recessed for the weekend.
Speaker John Boehner, in a speech on the House floor following the Senate vote, said, "The House has acted. ...We've done our job. The Democrats who run Washington have done nothing. They can't stop spending the American people's money. They won't and they refuse."
Boehner again confirmed to reporters that the widely quoted New York Times story that President Obama and he were closing in on a $3 trillion deficit-reduction deal was absolutely false. "There was no agreement, publicly, privately, never an agreement, and frankly not close to an agreement."
