House Votes To Defund Public Broadcasting
Among other cuts the GOP-led House has passed is a bill, part of H.R.1, to defund public broadcasting. This section of the bill withdraws any obligation on the part of Congress to fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which dolls out public media funds, beyond 2012. Currently, the CPB receives around $420 million.
As this is part of H.R. 1, the stopgap bill designed to prevent the shutdown of the government next month, it will be very interesting to see what happens when it goes to the Senate.
As NPR, I don't think they have to worry. After all, if MSNBC can make a living with a staff of clueless, biased Lefties, why not NPR? Of course, some of those high salaries might have to go, but what is that compared with losing the lie of 'public broadcasting' and relying honestly on the marketplace of ideas?
