El Commandante del Sandinistas returns

It appears that Daniel Ortega has regained power in Nicaragua with between 38- 40% of the vote.

Jimy Carter was on scene to `certify' the election, which should show anyone that there was a fair amount of chicanery involved to bring this tired piece of Marxist detritus back into office.

As a matter of fact, the Sandinistas' main challenger, Eduardo Montealegre, a conservative banker favoured by Washington said exactly that, in so many words, citing irregularities in Sunday's vote. "In a democracy, that is unacceptable. We are going to a second round," he said.

What's odd about this election is that Ortega scored around the same percentage or better in 1990, 1996 and 2001, yet lost.

Hugo Chavez, of course, welcomed Ortega's election, saying it shows a current of anti-U.S. sentiment.

"...what they do is confirm the trend, the revolution of the left!" Chavez told an audience of supporters who responded with cheers and applause.

"Latin America is ceasing to be — and forever — a backyard of U.S. imperialism. Yankee, go home! Gringo, go home!"

Yadda yadda.

The above photo,of course, dates from Ortega's days as the darling of anti-Western terrorism, a point of view I'm sure he still espouses. Look for Ortega to seek ties with Iran if he takes power.

Stay tuned...

Communism is a joke. Like you said, the real danger is that this recycled piece of Marxist may seek closer ties with Iran, which will give Iran a foothold on the North American continent.

And even if that happens, just send in some Marines or the Army Rangers. Problem solved. Next...
