Watcher's Council Nominations, 2/04/09
The Watcher's Council is a group of some of the most incisive blogs in the`sphere. Every week, the members nominate two posts each, one of their own and one from outside the group for consideration by the whole Council.
So, let's see what we have this week....and do check out the Watcher's commentary on how tax cheats exposed the hypocrisy of change....
COUNCIL
Joshuapundit - Obama: ” Screw Kentucky” - Imagine a disaster where at least a million Americans are without power or heat in the dead of winter, over 50 people have died, FEMA was nowhere in evidence and the president was busy hosting a Super Bowl Party and relaxing in his nice warm office while kids and old people froze to death. To date, he hasn't even bothered to visit the area.
Needless to say, there are some conclusions to be drawn.
Mere Rhetoric - Israeli Missile Defense Group Emphasizes Need, Technological Feasibility Of Anti-Missile Systems - In view of the Obama Administration's acceptance of a nuclear armed Iran and the presence of genocidal enemies in Lebanon and Gaza, Omri examines a group in Israel working on solutions involving missile defense.
Right Truth - God’s Will - A fascinating post by Debbie in which she examines the concepts of free will, individual choices and submission to G-d's will.
The Colossus of Rhodey - Lawyer: OK for prez to ditch Constitution if he’s “popular” - Hube examines a peculiarly partisan view of the concept of executive power as written by University of Baltimore law professor Garrett Epps.
The Provocateur - President Obama and Executive Power - Mike likewise examines executive power, in this case President Obama's rather hypocritical stance on it now, as opposed to when he was out of office....
The Razor - Musings over Forms and Schedules - Mike struggles with his tax filings while discussing several high level political figures who seem to get a pass on these matters.
Rhymes With Right - My Stimulus Proposal - G-d bless Texas! Greg read a stimulus plan by columnist Linda Chavez strikingly similar to the Townshend Plan floated during the Depression ( give everyone a set and equal amount of money and require them to spend it to stimulate the economy) and goes her one better...if we have to have a bailout, why no bail out consumers and use the money to pay down consumer debt?
The Glittering Eye - Three Thoughts About the Obama Administration - Dave Schuler looks at the opening two weeks of the Obama Administration and makes some interesting observations regarding its fundamental character.
I'd mention two things here. First the historical concept of resonance, that leaders get elected who are a reflection of both the times and the majority of the electorate. Second, based on my observations of the current occupation of the White House since he came on the public radar, I believe we have a sociopath in the White House.
Cheat-Seeking Missiles - Calling All Conservative Attorneys! = Laer is looking for a few good men - or women - to test how serious the Obama Justice Department is about not being politicized...lol!
Bookworm Room - What a cigarette will tell you about a man - Bookworm compares FDR and Obama and finds a major difference between FDR's optimism and good cheer and Obama's malaise and uses their rhetoric and two famous pictures of them smoking to personify those attitudes ( Of course, Obama's expression might have been cheerier if he wasn't smoking a tobacco cigarette).
Seriously, in Obama's case I think the gloom and doom is deliberate - to scare the electorate into backing 'reforms' that will make a huge part of the electorate dependent on the government and assure that they continue to vote Democrat. This,by the way, is straight out of Saul Alinsky's Rules For Radicals.
Soccer Dad - The no-state solution - Soccer Dad focuses on a particularly stoo-pid column by the New York Time's "expert' on the Middle East Tom Friedman.

Who said you can't get a good education these days? Obama, even with affirmative action, certainly learned the tools of the trade! It just happened to be an anti-American trade.
