US holds `ship interdiction' exercises in the Persian Gulf

The US has scheduled exercises in the Perisan Gulf to practice interdicting ships carrying `contraband and illegal materials' for October 31, organized under the U.S.-led 66-member Proliferation Security Initiative. Bahrain and Kuwait are expected to take part along with France and Britain and South Korea as observer nations.

The Navy refers to some of these types of exercises as VBSS (visit, board, search and seizure) operations.

Doing this in Iran's front yard is sending an obvious message, even though the Security Council has yet to agree on anything...stay tuned.
