Apparently Rushdie was bothered enough by this that he actually contacted Stewart to find out what on earth he had been thinking..and later e-mailed Standpoint's Nick Cohen:
I've always liked Stewart and Colbert but what on earth was Cat Yusuf Stevens Islam doing on that stage? If he's a "good Muslim" like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar then I'm the Great Pumpkin. Happy Halloween.
Rushdie later added:
I spoke to Jon Stewart about Yusuf Islam's appearance. He said he was sorry it upset me, but really, it was plain that he was fine with it. Depressing.
By the way, both links to those e-mail exchanges have since been removed, which says something, I think. One must not offend Islam, especially in the dhimmified UK.
As for the comedian formerly known as Jon Leibowitz, I wondered in my earlier piece if he had a chance to ask Yusef Islam how he felt about what the Qu'ran says about Jews.
Obviously he didn't. Would have gone against the whole theme of the so-called 'rally for sanity' for Leibowitz/Stewart to find out how much of a Jew his friend Yusuf actually considers him..

"As for the comedian formerly known as Jon Leibowitz",
Are you sure you don't mean "Jon Liebowitz, formerly known as a comedian?"
Haha that's funny because Jon Liebowitz has so much trouble finding work as a comedian nowdays.
He should take a leaf out of the book of that other Jewish comedian who interviewed the US President last week, has a bestselling book out and who's on 4 nights a week when he's not hosting awards shows.
Well Anonymous, I hope both you and Mr. Leibowitz/Stewart were entertained by Yusuf Islam.
Not much else to say. is there?
jon stewart is a dumm mass.
"jon stewart is a dumm mass."
**facepalm**
This Cat Stevens thing doesn't really surprise me. Jon Leibowitz/Stewart did a number of segments before the Iran election in 2009 trying to show Iran as an enlightened, misunderstood country. And he frequently hosts Islamist apologists like Reza Aslan. It is much safer to go after Jews, and Jon Leibowitz/Stewart knows it.
